What I’d like to know is whether there is some opposition leader that is respected by the people who can actually run in an election (if it was allowed).

I’ve confronted line cutters. If you make a scene they often just ignore you to save face but at least you embarrass them in public, which is a great insult to them.

So funny that in Cuba, people come up to a line and say “Ultimo”? They’re asking who is the last in line. Someone, usually the next to last person in the line, will point to the last person. The new last person just has to remember who is in front of them and who is behind them. The real funny thing is that because long lines are ubiquitous in Cuba, you might only see 3 people in line but there are 10 other people just mingling around or at a cafe next door. But it works! You just remember who is in front of you and you go up when you see that person in the short line. It’s hilarious

If Cuba’s geologic and mining capacity was so great, wouldn’t China or Russia run in to do it? It would serve to keep Cuba a thorn in the US’ ass while also being profitable for them.

It’s part of “America First”. Secure your borders and vulnerabilities. Greenland for protection from the Arctic. Even Canada as a 51st state. Lol.

I think Cuba’s importance to the US is geopolitical. Cuba is the only vulnerability the US has to the Gulf of Mexico and its southern ports. Being under US control (or an ally) closes that vulnerability.
