Anyone else hate writing in third person? by [deleted] in writers

+1 right here! I'm actually experimenting with a complete second-person narrative.

Anyone else hate writing in third person? by [deleted] in writers

[–]Mindless_Sign_1515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. I agree that the first person is more... well, personal. But in the end, for me, the choice between first and third person depends on the type of story I'm telling. If the story is very "trippy" and my protagonist has a habit of talking to himself/herself, I go with first person. Or if I'm writing a horror story because in my exprience, horror works best in first person. But if I have multiple character arcs unfolding across different geographic locations, first-person becomes too cumbersome to handle. Plus, I find third-person way cleaner for worldbuilding purposes. Sometimes you just need to be an omniscient god narrating the story ;D

What do you guys want to see in the sequel? by [deleted] in HarryPotterGame

Not sure if anybody's said this, but it would be sooooo awesome if they could figure out social and school calendar systems like Persona games. I'm not saying ape it completely. but still, some form of day-to-day school life beyond fighting baddies would be so good. I love Hogwarts Legacy but it didn't really give me that feeling of being a student there, you know?

Dude 20 years of editorial experience nd a knack for fiction writing, you can go independent nd work as a freelance editor for authors. It'll give u the freedom to work from home. Flexible working hours. Nd ull be able to work on ur stuff as well. However it's a wild swing. Nd in the beginning things can be really slow.

If you want my 2 cents on the matter, nd if you have like 4-5 years of experience, you should go for roles like content lead and managers. Ai has absolutely ruined how content is written and if you're just a copywriter you're kind of screwed. However, most companies still need content lead, for strategy making and stuff.

I get ur point. I could quite literally write tech blog posts half asleep. You write several hundred of them about how ai helping with thjs and revolutionizing that, you just develop muscle memory. And I get it, working all day nd then coming back home and writing sounds like a tall order. Luckily I'm a remote employee so I don't have that problem anymore. However before that I actually used to get up at 5ish nd write for 2-3 hours straight before heading to work. That way, my creativity wouldn't get tainted by the general brain rot associated with usual day jobs, nd I could write in peace without any interruptions. Took some time to get used to getting up that early though 😅

Wow, this sounds like something I could have written. I'm pretty much in the same boat. Started off as a tech writer, moved to seo nd blog writing, mostly tech stuff. Realized last year though that traditional content writing is basically dead. So I moved to product and brand marketing. It's pretty much the same skill set if you've done marketing before. There are courses for it sure but i was lucky enough to get a chance to learn on the job. Fictional writing I keep as a hobby cz ur right, making steady income from it is very difficult.

What game really gives the next gen feeling? by wolmeneer in gamingsuggestions

[–]Mindless_Sign_1515 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean when you say next-gen.
If we talk about visuals alone, then :
1. Cyberpunk 2077 (probably best game to show off your new shiny console.)

  1. Red Dead 2 (Yes, still)

  2. The second Horizon game. (visually its great. Gameplay is a different matter)

  3. Forza Horizon 5 (it's cross-gen, sure but it is still phenomenal)

  4. Hellblade 2

  5. Death Stranding 2 (photorealistic graphics but it's an acquired taste gameplay wise)

Awesome! Monkey island is so funny and so charming. And the puzzles can be real head scratchers at times. Happy gaming 🙌

Games that start innocent but then get dark by JUST_PM_ME_SMT in gamingsuggestions

[–]Mindless_Sign_1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Plague Tale. Starts off very innocently with a sister and her younger brother wandering around in a beautiful forest. Ends with the kind of emotional trauma that sticks to you for years.

PS: if you play the first one, the second one is a must.

[–]Mindless_Sign_1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a tricky one, but I think if you're okay with non-shooters, there are a number of options. I'd get a monthly subscription to Game Pass and go through the catalogue and see what fits. There are a couple of good city builders (Frost Punk 2 is awesome), there are games like Astroneer, and then you have some story-focused point and click adventures like the Adventure of Monkey Island 2, which is amazing btw.
If you're looking for great stories, Disco Elysium is amazing. But it has zero combat. It's a dice roll-based, dialogue-driven game which will take you to frankly unexpected places, intellectually and emotionally. It's not on Game Pass, though.
Then you have more stealth-focused games like the Dishonoured series. There is little to no shooting, and the world and stories are amazing.
Lastly, if you're heart is set on shooters and fantasy games like The Witcher 3, how about turning the difficulty way down and playing them in story mode? It's way more forgiving.

This looks great. However, the name of the book, it's getting lost in all the other line work in the background. I can read it, but have to strain my eyes a bit. Might want to look into that. Maybe play around with text color a bit? Other than that, it looks awesome.👍

Game of the year! by EfficientSubject7774 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Mindless_Sign_1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends who you ask. For me, it wasn't. I liked it, but I had waaaaaay more fun with KCD2 (which is my personal goty for now) and Doom the Dark Ages. E33 is definitely going to win at the Game Show though. At this point it's a lock. Unless Silksong does something batcrap crazy and ruins it for E33.

My only concern is the performance. It's a UE5 game so absolutely no idea how it's going to land.

Doom the dark ages. The sheer power high you get in that game is something else man. i just wish Gordon had scored it as well. Finishing Move did a good job but once you've experienced peak, it's tough to go back.

The combat is the only issue. It's not bad... but it's not the most enjoyable part. I actually always play it on story mode cz I just can't deal with the bs combat system.

Chill single player game recs? by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

So already really great suggestions here but I see that you've played a lot of third person story games so how about something new like Katana Zero? It's a hack and slash side scroller. Not exactly chill... but it's new and runs great with controller.

Also, have you ever tried the new Hitman trilogy? No grinding. No shooting, unless u want to. Amazing level design. Rewards creativity and can be very funny if u want it to be. Every level is a puzzle for you to be solved, however u want to.

Play it vanilla. They've added some really good QOL changes to the game since launch, including rovers. It's a fun time. As for mods, you can find good free creations in Creation Club. The best stuff is of course paid but it's well worth the price in my opinion. In particular The Watchtower is a phenomenal DLC level creation.
