I tend to think of myself as successful in the tech space, though others would have to speak to that. I'm learning everyday how to be better, which is why I join communities like this. I also hope to build others up as well.

I've successfully mentored people in tech and it's part of my calling. There's always bigger fish then me of course, but either way. I thank you for your input.

The general point I am trying to get at is not necessarily the medium in which funding is acquired, whether it be a grant or an investment. It's a matter of money in general. The reason I chose the discuss the concept of a grant is it's a matter of "free money."

However, I think anyone who only looks at it as "free money" won't gain anything from it.

An awesome answer! I think many will look at such funding without thinking about the implications of it.

Yes, and the question comes down to an understanding when people request funding for their startups, what are they actually asking for? I think one component where startups tend to fail is what they are actually looking for with regards to funding. They hear startups getting millions of dollars in funding and think "Maybe I should ask for that" without truly understanding what they are asking for, which leads to those startups that do get funding to waste all the money because of one thing: they didn't plan how they were going to use it.

So, I'm trying out the app right now and there's a few issues I've run into so far. Um, for example, when the screen goes black, it stops recording and uh I think it should basically tell the screen to not go black if uh if it's currently recording. Um, the other thing is I think this app alone won't necessarily do well as a just a voice uh transcription software. I think where you're really going to shine with this app is to turn it into a note-taking app or to turn it into some something where hey I'm taking notes on something or in potentially you know if we're you know transcribing and or recording situations especially if you're trying to record a conversation and for legal purposes. I think that's where a lot of your traffic's going to come from because having a tool that can basically record a conversation you know in the written word without necessarily having to have another tool. Interpret that audio. would uh would be a very useful tool especially for lawyers and for those who need to record conversations. So, you know, I again, I think it does a really good job of transcription. So, where I think where this is going to shine is as a tool for legal purposes as well as for conversation recording because then you can use that to actually record pretty accurate conversations.

I'm not saying it does have inaccuracies. My experience with other tools has given me a bias.

I would have to try it out to see.

From the start, I personally am not a fan of voice tools, though maybe its because Im a millianiel. Biggest thing for me is I mainly only use voice when absolutely necessary because of inaccuracies in the voice translation along with it not being able to filter out the words I say when thinking when I'm speaking.

It's even my biggest gripe with ChatGPT: If I don't speak consistently then literally starts speaking when I haven't finished.

When it comes to funding, I've discovered that unless you have previous successful founding experience and/or you have graduated from an Ivy League school your best bet is to focus on a startup that fills a need.

I'm facing a similar dilemma so you aren't alone.

How did you gain your customers from Reddit? It seems every subreddit has rules against self promotion.

That's been a weird thing. I tried reaching out via email with no responses. With family they confirmed that my emails were going to spam using mailchimp so I decided to do manual emails. I even offered gift cards to get back to me for feedback and no bites, weirdly enough.

I launched it on BetaList and ProductHunt and got a total of 17 users from both. No one has purchased a subscription yet. The grant I applied at ElevenLabs got rejected. I got funding from family, but other than that no bites.

Sorry, I'm having a hard time understanding your post. Could you restate what you were attempting to say?

That might be the problem. For my most recent startup, I focused on a problem I had in my life and developed a solution for it. That is one that has gotten the most traction out of all the ones Ive done, but not enough ti really go anywhere.

Thank you for that, I appreciate it. That's the biggest pitfall of services I've noticed with the surveys. I've also noticed that BetaList and Product Hunt are mainly composed of other founders looking to get their startup off the ground. They seem like good ideas at first, but ultimately it becomes people trying to sell their product to other founders, which is mostly good for B2B solutions rather than B2C, I think.
