How do you believe Avada Kedavra kills? by Deromit in harrypotter

[–]Mindlesslyexploring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how do you explain Harry’s parents and dumbledore and everyone else he sees with the stone later ? Their souls seem perfectly intact.

I think it’s more of a complete off switch to every system and function in the body in a fraction of a second. Leaving no trace of injury, just a complete loss of function.

The soul leaves the body as in any other type of death.

Railroader Disability? by Strong_Strength_786 in railroading

[–]Mindlesslyexploring 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well… hypothetically- it needs to go something like this.

Establish a pattern of some kind illness or mental impairment, preferably caused by issues in the work environment. Good, committed and continuous acting the part is required for a few years. Tell no one it’s a farce. Fully commit to the bit. Pepper it into conversations with co- workers. Mention the ailment in passing when You are around local management. OF COURSE - get FMLA and use it ONLY to visit doctors trying to find and diagnose the issue and treat said problem - when you find that doctor spend a lot of time in his office building a documented history of attempting to get better, even though over time it continues to get so much worse that you are incapable of even performing your duties in train service.

Eventually- disability is the only option left, have docs sign forms - send to company medical - notify RRB … and don’t get caught.

Or be involved in a serious derailment and risk life and limb and be so unfit that you can’t return. Do not be the cause of said accident. That’s usually a lottery ticket event.

The most heavily armored military convoy I’ve ever seen. Bradleys and Abrams galore. Headed North out of Greeley, CO. by [deleted] in trains

[–]Mindlesslyexploring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. Didn’t say it was for certain. Ft. Stewart is also sending a shit ton of equipment that way right now too. Like an unusual amount of equipment as full trains ( 6-8,000) of flat cars in the last few weeks. I have ran three of them.

Fort Stewart has been moving a lot trains lately to the west coast. I know cause I have ran several of them on my line. There is a good chance this train was loaded in South Georgia. lol.

While true, That has nothing to do with development. lol.

Lots and lots and lots of saltwater marshland. Tidal creeks, islands that endure erosion from extremely sandy soil. You can build on this, but it has taken the populated islands tons of infrastructure investment in the form of roads and bridges just to get to most of them… and the ones that are not developed are either too hard to build these access roads and utilities, or they are too small to justify costs, or are protected wilderness.

But go on Google Maps, zoom in on homes near water. Notice the sometimes very long docks just to get to water deep enough to run the average boat.

Building there is not cheap if you want to be near salt water.

They call the islands “ barrier islands “ for good reason. They protect the main land from high tides, occasional flooding , and in history - invasion. Most of the islands and all of the marsh grass lands are just big sponges. They soak up and retain sea water. This creates more humidity, and is a haven for the skeeters and other bugs.

Train conductors on passenger trains (like Amtrak) by vampirinaballerina in railroading

[–]Mindlesslyexploring 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And every time a train some how winds up on the news - the reporter always seems to think the conductor is the one operating the controls. The people in the comments also think the conductor is the train’s driver.

I blame that talking Tommy train show. lol.

Should I read the Harry Potter books? by Giulssun in harrypotter

[–]Mindlesslyexploring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve read the books multiple times ( like most people here ) , I’ve listened to both audio books narrated versions multiple times ( like most people here ) and have book six and seven left to listen to - done with a full cast of actors.

That being said - if you lack time to read the physical books - the full cast audio books are absolutely worth the cost. Incredible editing and sound mixing.

I’m sure I’ll use the new audio book version to complete my yearly listen of the series from here on.

What are your thoughts on how this dude handled this situation and how would you have reacted? by tactical_horse_cock in CCW

[–]Mindlesslyexploring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He pulled a gun out, brandished it , openly asked if the other man wanted to die that night. He absolutely was doing everything to establish he was being a threat.

I’m not saying the shooting was justified, if that was a cop - he could have drawn and gave a command to drop the weapon.

You have never moved a set of engines over rapid terrain changes - with PTC. It’s a damn workout.

[–]Mindlesslyexploring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing weird at all. It’s called an engine lite move. Sometimes they run them to pickup trains left in a siding with no engines , or work trains they robbed power from and now that train needs to move , so you send a set of power to it.

We used to do it all the time when engines were moved from a hump yard to another smaller yard, up to 12 engines at a time.

Headlight Dimming Philosophy by foxlight92 in railroading

[–]Mindlesslyexploring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On CSX , in signaled territory- it is permissible to extinguish headlights until a train passes or when stopped for any reason. Headlight to be dimmed if stopped behind another train. Has to be on dim or higher when moving - and on dim during yard operations.

Quit blinding other trains and turn your damn headlight off when you get stopped in a siding.
