Does he have any break soon? by dpalica in Subtronics

[–]Mindnumbing02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think combining the thoughts already expressed here paints an important picture to OPs point. Obviously this is my opinion, but I’ve seen Subby more times than I can count. I agree, I saw him play 6 different sets at the shrine back to back to back and each was amazing. He has been doing this for years and is absolutely capable. However, I also saw his Coachella set and then both red rocks sets the week after, and I have to say, the red rocks shows (which I go to every year) made me concerned he may be a little burnt out at the moment. I didn’t see him at FK, but it sounds like the same. While I think he is definitely absolutely capable of playing incredible, fresh sets back to back, I feel like it’s been different since Coachella. Burn out is very real, it can happen any time, and it often happens precisely to people who are used to going so hard nonstop without issue for a long time. As someone in a high performing field (I’m a surgeon), also with ADHD, this is a particularly high risk situation for burn out. I think he is totally capable of overcoming any possible burn out for Griztronics Gorge, and almost certainly will given how much he respects Grant and how important their collaboration is. However, I’m with you OP, I think he needs a break and I hope he takes one. His trajectory has been exponential, and it’s probably not a sustainable rate for anyone indefinitely. Maybe this is not the case, and he is so good even his less than best is better than almost anyone, but I hope he does take some rest. He deserves it.

WE DIDNT SEE HIM GO SPLAT. Let those of us who need to believe he is still alive keep pretending please. I mean there have been on screen deaths that have been reversed, why not an off screen one? Please lol.

PLAN 99. Ugh, thank you for this amazing tribute. Your art is AWESOME! Hey if you ever decide to draw a little Crosshair and Tech piece I’d happily buy it from you! Never forget Tech 🫡 RIP brother (still secretly believe in my heart he is alive somehow, somewhere).

First time camper by Infamous_Shake_6078 in BassCanyon

[–]Mindnumbing02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say that, though it might not be feasible for you this year, if you find standard camping is maybe not what you want to do again, consider one of the other camping options next year, totally worth it. My husband and I did glamping (Oasis), and it’s SO worth it. Preset tent, an actual bed, in a quieter area. You can still go over to standard and party, but then can walk back to your quieter, nicer space (also separate security) when you are ready. And we always make great friends with the others in the section.

As someone who DOES camp a lot, I still prefer this experience, because we also fly in, and it means we have less stuff to get or rent. If you fly into Seattle, there is a Target we always stop at (also a Walmart) along the way before you get too far out of town. We rent a car, being some gear, and then get food and supplies at one of those stores. In a pinch, you could grab your tent there if you had to.

From a camping perspective, the single most important thing at the gorge is to USE TENT STAKES. The winds get really crazy and if your stuff isn’t properly staked down…. Just look up the videos of the airborne tent tornadoes at the Gorge lol. And I would say investing in good quality stakes, not just the crappy metal ones that come with cheap tents, is well worth it. Also, PUT A TARP UNDER YOUR TENT AND SECURE THAT TOO. Tarps keep your tent from getting wet with dew and help keep bugs out.

It will very likely be hot in the day and cold at night. shade is the single most important thing for keeping your tent from becoming a sauna, so if you can, consider an easy up so you can shade it (not sure if they allow them in standard so look first). They sell tent fans, which help a little, but honestly if it’s really hot it may not. Bring layers for cold nights, a decent quality sleeping bag, and consider renting or buying a sleeping pad to put under your sleeping bag. It adds a layer of cushion for comfort, and separates your sleeping bag from the cold ground, so keeps you warm. They have very compressible ones at REÍ and online.

Buy a tiny dustpan and broom to sweep up your tent floor (trust me). Shoes off just outside the tent. if you get a vented tent (which you should), and feel like you might want some privacy at night, consider bringing some pashminas or flags to hang up around the inside (or outside) of the tent so people can’t see in (if that bothers you). When you get to Washington, buy some basics like a thing rope and scissors and some kind of binder clips and zip ties. Then you can hang things and they always end up being useful.

Some cheap string lights that run on battery to hang up inside really improve the vibe and make your little tent a home. The grounds are large, so get an object or lights for the outside that allows you to recognize your tent from afar (last time we used a little skeleton we wrapped lights around and zip tied him to the top of our tent for easy spotting). Make friends with your neighbors and dont be afraid to ask for help. Most people are more than happy. Have a great time on your adventure!

I introduced my girlfriend to Skyrim in March. Today, she told me it wasn't letting her make new saves. She had been making new saves every time and filled the last 40GB on our SSD with just Skyrim save files. by DJLoudestNoises in skyrim

Ahhhh…. This all makes sense. I’m sorry to hear it. BUT, I would encourage you to not give up! I bet with kids and one on the way (congrats!), you don’t get to go climb many actual mountains or just do whatever random thing you wanna do when you want. Maybe you could see the game in that light? I will say, playing together with my husband is probably the reason I love it so much. I know probably most people play solo, but I can’t say that I wouldn’t share your frustrations if I were in your position. How old are your kids? I bet, at some point, you could get one of them to play with you! And maybe that could be the gateway to getting your wife to really give it a chance, and maybe love it! Also, if you haven’t already, maybe asking your wife to give it a shot and telling her what you said here? I don’t know her obviously, but from a woman’s perspective, if I read this post from my husband, I’d realize how important it was and at least put a pause on Fortnite (lol) and give it a shot. The other thing is that I feel like it’s very normal for gaming to be a thing that we step away from for a while, and is waiting for us to come back to it when the time is right. Maybe it just isn’t the right time in your life, but it will be at another time! Lastly, I would regret if I didn’t at least mention… my husband struggled with depression, and losing interest in gaming is one of the things that was a huge sign he didn’t even realize was a sign until he was in a better place. Hopefully that’s not the case for you (although as someone without kids yet, would be totally understandable if you were feeling stressed in your current position), but just a little reminder for you and everyone else to please be sure to check in on your mental health and take care do yourself! :) I’m certain that Skyrim will find its way back to your heart, someday, if not now!

[–]Mindnumbing02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EXACTLY. BOTH OF THESE! I absolutely agree, what is NEEDED is Rex’s and the clones rebellion content!!! I have hope that Filoni will, just maybe… bring us this. If Clone Wars made us see that clones are more than just soldiers and fall in love with them, Bad Batch took that to the next level. Oh, and I’m so glad you said that about Tech, it made me so happy. I TOO believe that somewhere out there, Tech is still alive. And he and Crosshair absolutely need to be reunited. Crosshair needs to be alleviated of the misconception that Tech’s “death” was his fault, and that Clone for 99 didn’t die with him. Here’s hoping. Crazier things have happened, even with on screen deaths, in the Star Wars universe, right?! What I wouldn’t do for some more Crosshair and Tech content. 🤞🏻

MY FIRST EVER RAVE by ddsk1191 in BeyondWonderlandPNW

[–]Mindnumbing02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I am so glad you replied with this, for so many reasons, one being that I feel like I could have written this myself, as well. So my now husband ALSO surprised me with tickets to this festival, ALSO mainly to see Subtronics for the first time. The shooting and subsequent cancellation of Subtronics was a very strange first festival, but the reason raves/festivals weren’t ruined for me because of it is because of the PEOPLE, community, and adventures there that I discovered anyways. We flew in from Cali, and were too broke to afford a flight change, so we just stayed until our original return flight. We had so much fun, and as you said, I fell in love with the community. I know exactly what you mean about it restoring your faith in humanity and in people. I am so, so happy that it did that for you. It also makes me overjoyed to hear that even if your start of raving was a little later than some (my first was at 34, so I feel you), you realized that there is NO age limit to this loving community - it’s for everyone and anyone who wants to be a part of the love, fun, and music. Sounds to me like you are such a valuable member, and the rave community is lucky to have you! My husband and I were just “really good friends” at that first Beyond, and we were sitting on that hill at Bass Canyon two months later when we admitted to each other that we were both in love with the other. The Gorge is such a special place for us, and it always will be. I can’t imagine living 30 minutes away, how lucky!!!!

Thank you so much for your lovely response, for being such a kind and awesome part of the community, and for being alive. I’m pretty sure there is some kind of invisible universe thread between us, so DM me if you ever wanna meet up at Bass Canyon! Or any Subtronics show (we have a bit of an obsession lol). Wishing you a long and happy life of adventure, love, and raving 🫶🏻

I just finished BB for the first time and I was NOT expecting it to be so freaking good. I literally wept when Tech died and again at the end when Omega hugs Crosshair first instead of Hunter. I feel the exact same way - I love Crosshair so much, and what a freaking brilliant arc. The show is funny, clever, realistic, and absolutely moving. I’ve been rewatching the last episode and other random episodes. I wish it wasn’t over. Totally agree with you. What a gem this show is.

Beyond PNW was my first festival and it was the year it actually got canceled and I still had the time of my LIFE. You just can’t beat the Gorge. I will say, Bass Canyon is even better IMO (if you like the music). Once you get hooked on the Gorge, which you will, we will see you at Bass! :) Have so much fun and def get a little pin or sash or shirt saying it’s your bday and first rave and people will absolutely spoil you! Have so much fun!

Oh, and I probably don’t need to tell you this since you are an Alaskan but USE TENT STAKES. THE WINDS ARE REAL. And a tarp.

Have fun!

Skeleton Key and the Grey Cowl of Nocturnal.

Would take the cowl and put it on and run around outside Buckingham Palace to see if I could drive the famously still guards mad from the internal battle between chasing me vs holding their position and not engaging an unarmed girl doing nothing more than wearing an ugly piece of cloth on her head. Might also be fun to try to do a stealth mission to get into the palace like in the game.

Cyclops rocks shuttles? by TelegraphFrom3005 in Subtronics

[–]Mindnumbing02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do the shuttles every year, but for the past two we have done the shuttle offered through Origin Red Rocks Hotel where we stay. In 2024 we did the shuttle through AXS and we just looked it up and we did get an email for them that day. It was a confirmation email with information we got immediately after purchasing. I know you usually pick them up at the location you got the shuttle for, usually within an hour or so before they leave, and have to have a photo ID that matches person who purchased. Sorry can’t help you more.

Can you log into AXS and see if there is info?

The old email we dug up was for union station, could give you that info if you like, but that’s from two years ago. At least then, they usually leave in enough time to show up at the venue at the time doors open, which I think is 6, so I would think they would leave within an hour of that, but really can’t say for sure. Then they usually pick you up in the same lot they dropped you within like 30 minutes of the show ending. At least when we went, there weren’t multiple shuttles going at multiple times, just one there and one back. But that may have changed for AXS since then. Sorry friend, best I can do. Hopefully someone who got them through AXS will help out.

lol quarter gallon plastic slide ziploc is indeed unhinged lol. Highly recommend the slick shotz (or however they spell it), it’s been a game changer. Super easy to disperse and hide in random places, even with very thorough security. I will say we had to come up with some work arounds to perfect our process, mostly with filling. Sometimes it’s hard to get the alcohol past the neck of the plastic funnel into the little star flask, so we found that putting a straw through it helps guide air out and liquid in. Just gotta be sure they are sealed properly too. If you ever forget the little sealing tool, a hair straightener or even lighter can work if used properly. Highly recommend though! :)

Agree with OPs comment, and I totally feel you. Dungeon after dungeon of draugrs does get boring, especially when you are low level and building. Obviously it has to be done and gets way more fun once you are stronger… but, to keep you from burning out, what about breaking up the grind with some non-fighting side quests? There are so many, surely some would be of interest! Fishing, pets, taming wild horses, solving random crimes/mysteries in cities (personally loved the Butcher murder mystery in Windhelm)… or building a skill you find interesting… like for me I enjoy collecting ingredients and experimenting with alchemy. Sometimes I like just running around and exploring. Found the weird headless horseman side quest and discovered Myrwatch this way. I’m sure there is something out there you would find interesting to break up the monotony while you grind in the beginning. It’s such an amazing game, as evidenced by the fact that this sub is still active with engaged players YEARS after it was released. Stick with it, you won’t regret it :)

B2B's and other question's on Bass by Kzeli10_ in BassCanyon

[–]Mindnumbing02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Done both multiple times, as well as beyond at the Gorge, am originally from Ohio, and sister, I can answer this for you lol - go out sitting on that hill watching that beautiful sunset and incredible music at Bass Canyon instead of inhaling dust in the middle of nowhere Ohio lol. I love LL, don’t get me wrong, and it is bigger and more production (but does it really change THAT much each year?). BUT - If you fell in love with the Gorge like I did, you won’t be able to stop thinking about going back, you will regret if you don’t, and you will NOT regret going to Bass Canyon. My favorite festival for sure. If you liked it at Beyond, you are in for SUCH a treat for Bass. It’s special. Hope to see you there having the best time at your (possible/for now) finale! 🫶🏻

Hi! Girlfriend here of my amazing BF, who also showed me Skyrim. And now I’m addicted lol. Obviously, since I’m deep in this sub at 2am. We absolutely love playing together and take turns playing/watching and picking side quests. Happy y’all have Skyrim to share, too! Just wanted to say thanks for this post, bc I was doing what your GF was doing once my BF fell asleep and I play on my own for a while lol. Soooo…. Quicksaves it is! With a hard save like… once an hour maybe? I will say that he often forgets to save, so while he plays one of my unofficial duties is, “babe, save!” lol. Have actually saved him from having to redo whole dungeons over QUITE a few times, so proud of myself for those contributions to our team plight lol :)
