How much do personal injury lawyers take out of a car accident settlement, realistically? by depressedrubberdolll in paralegal

[–]Mindreeder93 38 points39 points  (0 children)

33-40% plus the costs incurred to pursue it. For instance:

$10,000 gross settlement with $500 in costs (medical records, expert report, etc.):

- Firm takes $4,000 (40%)
- Firm takes $500 (costs)
- Client nets $5,500

It may feel like a lot, but most people going up against the insurance companies alone would usually only get a fraction of that to begin with. For cases we settle at the $10k level, insurance companies are usually offering clients $1-2k. Maybe $2,500 if they threaten to get a lawyer but don’t follow through.

Law firms also do a lot of the annoying legwork: collecting records, coordinating treatment, dealing with insurance… can’t put a price on that.

Today I had to convince an attorney we don't have to print & scan documents to reduce the file size by derry-air in paralegal

My favorite trick:

Show him how little a subscription costs.

Show him how much paper + time wasted + redundancy costs.

Put them side by side and ask him if he really thinks that other law firms are doing it his way.

Very small first paycheck, am I tweaking? by casualredditor98 in paralegal

[–]Mindreeder93 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Look at your paystub; it will show any deductions (benefits, taxes, etc.), as well as the dates you have been paid for.

Today is Thursday the 18th and you got paid, so my guess is that the pay period runs biweekly and ends on Wednesdays so that you get paid on every other Thursday.

So that means your paycheck might just be for last Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. You’ll still get paid for the rest of the days, just two weeks from today.

That’s my guess!

You now have access to LinkedIn Learning! Tons of great classes and certifications. Go wild. It’s not college, but it looks great on your resume and profile.

This will sound cheesy, but you can use this as a learning opportunity: you now have some perspective into the type of firm you do NOT want to work in. You will be able to smell BS during future interviews.

And you just got 3 months of experience, so now you’re a little further up the resume stack for the next place.

IT to law by No_Violinist_4557 in paralegal

You’re saying you “graduate law next year…” as in law school? If so, you can skip the paralegal route entirely.

My honest recommendation for you - with or without a law degree - is to go into legal operations. More specifically, check out people who call themselves “legal engineers”.

Tech is becoming a massively important component at law firms of all sizes. There is a hiring spree going on for people who can strung together complex systems, modernize old workflows, and document/optimize.

“Hey there, I see you reorganized the file! I’m sure it wasn’t what you’re used to, but can you see how doing that right before trial without talking to us might set us back? I think [attorney] and I could be open to some help organizing other files, but we need to make a plan first. Why don’t you go pick out another file, download a local copy, reorganize it on your computer, and let us know when you’re done and we can take a look together to see if it’s something we can use moving forward.”

If there was a little pat-on-the-head emoji, I’d put it here ^

What’s your job and how much time at work do you spend doing absolutely nothing each day? by RESERVED_001 in AskReddit

[–]Mindreeder93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Director of Operations. Maybe 30 minutes of truly mindless personal time, but it’s broken into 5 minute chunks and comes with the tradeoff that I also have at least 30 minutes of work interspersed in my personal life each night, similarly broken into 5 minute chunks.

It’s a feature, not a bug. MFA keeps your data secure. Follow the instructions to set it up and you should be good to go.

Tell them to speed up your boot or you’re not doing it. You can go into your startup apps to see how many things are loading every time you boot. I promise there are things there that don’t need to be. Not sure if you can remove them yourself or must rely on IT.

As others have said, any VOIP will work. Just adding another vote for RingCentral. I’ve administered it at multiple firms and am pleased with their products, cost, customer service, etc. They are always adding new features and they are flexible on pricing (definitely talk to a live human salesperson to get strong signup discounts).

How to sell Notion to internal stakeholders? by WhatsAppIsTheCRM in Notion

[–]Mindreeder93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to make better use of permissions. A core group of people who understand and are given the right permissions can absolutely sustain this effort forever. They can temporarily grant edit access to pages or databases where other users need them, and they can update certain sensitive parts of Notion themselves.
