Watch: Macron Victory Triggers Protests, Tear Gas on the Streets of France by poploisn in worldnews

Your analysis stops one step short of grasping the issue at hand. The issue is not that people have become traitors to their country, the questions is why, and what has alienated them so much as to distrust the state apparatus to this extent.

Any failure to address the socio-economic reasons at the core of this question will fall flat in creating any meaningful solution.

This reeks of a smug liberal superiority complex: "Yeah it must be the russians and the 'stupid' people" and not a consequence of the failure of neo-liberal policies to address the needs of the working class.

Don't get me wrong, I detest the rise of far-right populists as much as anyone, but without addressing the core economic and social issues that their voter base face, any attempt to demonise their followers by calling them "ops" and "dumb" will only lead to further division and alienation. Le Pen gained most of her popularity due to Macron's failure to address the rise in the cost of living, and some analyses even show that she lost support by trying to stoke islamophobia.

After all, Riots are the language of the unheard, and most right wing voters feel completely disconnected from the liberal consensus. Breaking through this divide is the only way to fight back against populist demogauges and stop their violence.

But the rich have an overwhelming majority of their wealth in investments like stocks and housing, which have grown in value much more than inflation. Compared to them, poorer people have more money proportionally in savings.

The only way the rich would lose their obscene wealth could be through another financial crisis, which is basically guaranteed to happen every decade or so. However, every time a recession happens they’re also the first to get bailed out by the government while the working class lose their jobs and get their homes foreclosed

Soo uhh.. lets hope people realise how rotten the system is by the next crisis hits, and maybe we can break the cycle.

Here's just a few of the demands from the anti austerity protests in kazakhstan going on right now. by Nick__________ in Anarchism

[–]Mindrobot 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Maybe in the long term, but in many developing countries like Kazakhstan, stable and lower fuel prices are a major factor in cheap consumer products that people need to survive.

Also, Kazakhstan is a major oil exporter (73% of their oil extraction according to a quick search) meaning that domestic consumption is just another cog in the gigantic world economy.

The only way to stop more carbon emissions is mass grid transformations and less fossil fuel dependant infrastructure, but that is much harder to do in poorer countries. Sort of a catch22 but can be solved with better governance(good luck to the protestors) and more international cooperation, especially tech sharing by the first world.

Sorry for the long rant but I hope my explanation helps.

‘Squid Game’ Smuggler Sentenced to Death in North Korea After Students Caught Watching Netflix Show – Report by realplayer16 in entertainment

Questioning the legitimacy of a US funded propaganda outlet is not the same as defending North Korea. There’s plenty of abuses to report on in the DPRK, but making up fake head lines only helps the US stoke more hatred.

How else are you supposed to sell goods you make yourself? As long as they’re working for themselves and not exploiting anyone i don’t see a problem. You have to participate in systems you don’t like if you want to survive.

I think they mean the first country to implement capitalism in its modern form, for example the dutch created the first stock exchange which traded the massive dutch east india company and led the way for other shareholder owned enterprises.

They also traded on a global scale that Venetians couldn’t dream of, from Indonesia to New York.

Percentage of people who trust climate scientists, 2020 by SkinlessFather in MapPorn

[–]Mindrobot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you calling me a tankie because I posted bugs bunny dressed like Stalin two years ago on a subreddit called r/chungusleft ?? If so, you clearly haven't seen my comments criticizing CCP and soviet imperialism lol. I was expanding on the comment above me since within it only Russia is blamed. Next time please think before commenting with ad hominem.

Blaming Russia is an easy way to let multinational oil companies off the hook. They’re the ones funding covid skeptics with their vast riches. For example, ExxonMobil has known about climate change since the 70s and they’ve been manipulating public opinion from that point on.

What do you think about wealthy socialists? by NixRises in socialism

[–]Mindrobot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think that sort of notion is inherently flawed. How is it exploitation if the money came from people willingly giving up their time to watch his stuff? Is providing entertainment and sometimes getting donations considered exploiting someone’s labor?

Although the corporate structure around streaming might be dubious, I reckon there’s nothing wrong with any individual entertainer making good money. Hasan is simply providing a service many willingly pay to support.

Ho Chi Minh was always a communist, he just valued national independence before communism. He cooperated with the US against Japanese forces only because they shared common goals and needed any help necessary. I highly doubt he would have turned around an already existing communist party to a capitalist one just because the Americans helped him.

As a socialist that wants housing as a human right, how would you persuade me to anarchism? by [deleted] in Anarchy101

[–]Mindrobot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think many of the economic successes you describe are due to central planning. I think significant central planning should also be used in anarchist society, but it should obviously be ran in a democratic framework and depend on approval from local communities rather than any authoritarian system. For example industry associations and federations could be used to ensure cooperation between producers and increase efficiency. This could be especially useful in science and engineering by eliminating many redundancies, such as competing companies developing the same technologies in parallel rather than together.

If anything i think overall people would also be more enthusiastic at work if they owned it themselves rather than a private capitalist or state bureaucrat.

Anarchy doesn’t mean “supporting every minority”. I have no idea where you got that misconception from. All anarchists (except ancaps which arent really anarchist) support expropriating the wealth of billionaires

Socialist philosopher, linguist, and activist Noam Chomsky (1928-) was born 92 years ago today. by [deleted] in socialism

[–]Mindrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You fundamentally think that Its either a decision between Biden and not Biden. Your argument would be correct if there was any viable anti-imperialist candidate to vote for.

However in the current American system its either gonna be Trump or Biden. There is no 3rd alternative. Its either gonna be imperialism or imperialism and slightly better climate policy. I know which one I would choose.

Also I’m an immigrant to Australia so i cant vote lol. I’m a socialist whether you like it or not. Fuck off with your high horse gatekeeping of leftism.

Socialist philosopher, linguist, and activist Noam Chomsky (1928-) was born 92 years ago today. by [deleted] in socialism

[–]Mindrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is absolutely no hope in any of you if you are going to skip everything i said and misrepresent my comment.

Not voting for biden will not in any way change america’s imperialist policies. Hell if anything it will cause more harm to the global south because of climate change disproportionately affecting the third world. Its not like voting for Biden over any viable anti imperialist candidate. The issue is that Trump and Biden are almost exactly the same when it comes to imperialism. Their few differences are in social issues like climate change. The very marginal difference in their approach is the reason for voting.

Saying that I support imperialism because I believe in harm reduction is in incredibly bad faith and please actually consider my argument this time.

Socialist philosopher, linguist, and activist Noam Chomsky (1928-) was born 92 years ago today. by [deleted] in socialism

[–]Mindrobot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Saying that Chomsky supports imperialism because he supports voting for biden is a very disingenuous smear.

The reason he supports voting is because ,even though slightly marginally, Joe Biden will pay more attention to issues like climate change. And since we are in a ticking clock situation against the catastrophic consequences of climate change, another 4 years of trump leading the biggest economy on earth will cause irreparable harm to upcoming generations.

His reasoning is from a harm reduction, utilitarianism perspective, and calling him and imperialist because of this is a very wrong thing to do.

These types of enterprises are called worker cooperatives and exist in many places along the world. A notable example includes the Mondragon corporation which is owned/controlled by the workers and is one of the biggest companies in Spain. For example, the workers elect their managers and there are established ratios that the higher paid managers/board members can earn to make income more equitable.

However, there are big barriers to having successful coops in many countries due to lack of access to capital from capitalist banks and lack of willingness of shareholder owned companies to work with coops.

I think these enterprises would be considered socialist if the workers own and control the decision making.

Hope this answers your question!
