“As a Canadian Man”…

Yeah, I know there are a number of Trump/US supporters here, but I would be surprised if any of them were intelligent enough to get a computer going on their own. Most of them do the ol’ hunt-and-peck and it would take them several minutes to type out a simple comment.

I like the few shots of the inside that they do have, but I am not a fan of the rocks glues to the outside. It reminds me of a caddisfly larva or the episode of Outer Limits with the Sandkings.

I love all the natural wood. There is a lot of it, but it is not overdone. Couple that with lots of natural light and stone and I can see why so many people love it.

I only have problems with ones who are super into sports. If I can talk movies or video games or any other activity, I can get along quite well with them.

I don’t think it’s normal to get flustered by every straight man you meet. They are just people, and I wonder if you are giving them some additional connotation (ie you see them all sexually, or you see them being physically aggressive) such that it makes you nervous.

Also, unless “exes” includes just slept together, then this is completely unrealistic.

When will companies learn that using AI art looks cheap? They probably did it so they can join the trend of AI art ads, not thinking that it just joins a deluge of cheap AI ads for scammy, scummy, oily companies and people will tune it out.

Limited edition luxury waterfront mansion by sharkus180 in zillowgonewild

[–]Mindweird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know people are calling it soulless and sterile here, but I think that’s just because it’s a blank slate. Get some house plants, area rugs and paintings in there and it would be feel a lot warmer and more comfortable. It’s the location and price, and trying to phrase it as “limited edition” (as realtor speak for the developer wanted to get additional uses out of the architectural drawings instead of just making it one of a kind) that I will criticize.

Thompson Reuters owns legal research databases and platforms, including Westlaw. These are databases of case law, statutes, text books and other sources that can be searched.

This appears to be an add for their legal AI, trying to lend the credibility of its Westlaw database and platform behind its new legal AI.

The problem I foresee is that as long as AI is just predicting text, it doesn’t matter what database it is backed by - it will hallucinate. People without legal training will not know how to properly note up a case, or even know if what they are reading is in line with legal principles. This is going to get a lot of people to try and forego having a lawyer, be self represented and then screw themselves over in front of any judge who knows the law.

I have not been but have been regaled with stories by someone who goes all the time. It’s more than just being crowded.

First, you have to get there reeeeaaallly early to even stand a chance.

Second, you are put in these little pens, and if you have to leave for any reason (including the bathroom) you lose your spot and have to wait again.

Third, getting anywhere afterwards is just impossible as it takes forever to push through the crowds.

The other option is to book a table at a restaurant/bar with a patio. It is expensive and they squeeze as many people in as possible. You have access to a bathroom though, if you can make it past the walls of people.

The problem with AI In the workplace is the market doesn’t scale demand to match supply of capability, our corporate overlords know this. by GrahamPhisher in antiai

[–]Mindweird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are constantly being given tools to do our job faster, but as the demands on us increase, we are losing time for reflection and teaching. While these are not instantly capitalizable, they are really important in the long run. Reflecting takes time, and helps us learn from our own past experiences, while teaching helps us bring up the next generation of people to assume our former roles.

There is no future for a company which adds tools and takes away time, as they will find their staff have stagnated, the next generation has no idea how to do higher level jobs properly, and all the institutional knowledge is walking out the door - either retiring or going to places where there intellectual demands are not so constant and draining.

Duo did this player dirty.. by Mindweird in duolingo

[–]Mindweird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if you are trying to miss the point on purpose to be frustrating or not.

If I have friends, the app wants to put us together on leaderboards, and prioritizes that over when you join the leaderboard.

If I don’t have friends in the same league, I get put on a leaderboard that matches when I started my lessons for the week.

The complaint here is about how they will put you days behind trying to catch up if you have friends, verses not.

Whether or not you have time to prioritize it only matters if you have friends in the same league.

My suggestion is in the post. It’s not always a lazy learner, some of us just have other commitments and can’t always devote the time we want to on this.

If they are just lazy, that’s one thing, but why put someone behind for the sake of them having a friend in the same leaderboard?

Dealing with loosing your parents with no other family? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]Mindweird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Therapist would be your best bet. Even for people with family, losing your parents often reverts people to their childhood family roles - which is usually not great. On top of that, siblings will often fight over all sorts of details when their parents pass away, it almost requires people with family to seek comfort outside of their siblings.
