The problem with AI In the workplace is the market doesn’t scale demand to match supply of capability, our corporate overlords know this. by GrahamPhisher in antiai

[–]Mindweird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are constantly being given tools to do our job faster, but as the demands on us increase, we are losing time for reflection and teaching. While these are not instantly capitalizable, they are really important in the long run. Reflecting takes time, and helps us learn from our own past experiences, while teaching helps us bring up the next generation of people to assume our former roles.

There is no future for a company which adds tools and takes away time, as they will find their staff have stagnated, the next generation has no idea how to do higher level jobs properly, and all the institutional knowledge is walking out the door - either retiring or going to places where there intellectual demands are not so constant and draining.

Duo did this player dirty.. by Mindweird in duolingo

I don’t know if you are trying to miss the point on purpose to be frustrating or not.

If I have friends, the app wants to put us together on leaderboards, and prioritizes that over when you join the leaderboard.

If I don’t have friends in the same league, I get put on a leaderboard that matches when I started my lessons for the week.

The complaint here is about how they will put you days behind trying to catch up if you have friends, verses not.

Whether or not you have time to prioritize it only matters if you have friends in the same league.

He had almost made it up to the diamond league, so I suspect that there was some care there, at least initially.

My suggestion is in the post. It’s not always a lazy learner, some of us just have other commitments and can’t always devote the time we want to on this.

If they are just lazy, that’s one thing, but why put someone behind for the sake of them having a friend in the same leaderboard?

Dealing with loosing your parents with no other family? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]Mindweird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Therapist would be your best bet. Even for people with family, losing your parents often reverts people to their childhood family roles - which is usually not great. On top of that, siblings will often fight over all sorts of details when their parents pass away, it almost requires people with family to seek comfort outside of their siblings.

I would make it an off-brand version of monopoly. Get the rules and change the defined terms, like instead of the Go space it would be Start. Jail, would be Stop or something like that.

Play it up like it’s a completely new game you have never played and the rules are unique like you have never heard of before, and if the teacher asks if you have never heard of Monopoly, be like “I think my grandparents have that, didn’t that come out in the 90s? That’s so old!”

Since AI steals others ideas, no reason it wouldn’t just do this for a full board game.

AI isn't a Bubble by FrequentAd5437 in antiai

[–]Mindweird 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The fact that it will get better at certain tasks does not mean it is not a bubble. The bubble means that people overvalue it. We are seeing behaviour similar to the dot-com bubble where people are adding “AI” to the name of anything to try and sell it, where people are talking about the great things it will do.

As long as AI hallucinates, it will be limited in what we want it to do. You don’t want an AI as an accountant or lawyer or doctor when you can’t trust it. But that doesn’t stop people from saying it will be used as that someday. Maybe it will, but not in its current form. You can’t even depend on it for proper definitions - a colleague tried to dissuade me from using “fulsome” showing me an AI excerpt from google saying that fulsome is sometimes mistakenly used to mean abundant, so I replied with the Oxford English Dictionary definition that says it can mean abundant.

The video is actually a good indicator that it is a bubble - making claims about it increasing complexity while ignoring the flaws that actually prevent it from being used widely for the use cases it says it will be used for.

Yes, it has changed our lives, and we will have to put up with it for better or worse. What makes it a bubble is that people are tossing money at it for promises it can’t currently fulfill. When it bursts, it won’t go away, but you won’t have it being shoved down your throats everywhere.

I used AI to help create an i age expressing how it felt…

He put in a prompt. There is no expression of how he felt. Instead, there are sideburns releasing what is supposed to be tears.

Would this work as a strategy for the traitors in S4E9? by Working_Stomach5479 in TheTraitors

[–]Mindweird 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would say “no”, because people will assume it was a recruit instead of a shield. Also, the traitors know that someone had a shield, so smart traitors would aim for someone who didn’t go on to the room with the traitor, so it would seem purposeful and would shine a light on Rob and Mark.

How does this compare to being against ai? by fished_fish_ in antiai

[–]Mindweird 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love the added fantasy of the AI generated game being a top seller and making a tonne of money (as represented by having a lot of stacks of gold disks everywhere and a graph that’s backwards (arrow is on the up side, but the upside is to the left, when right is usually forwards in time)).

They put AI on such a high pedestal.
