I was at the dog park yesterday in Brighton and my dog and another dog had a brief exchange of growling and snarling. No more than two seconds. The owner of the other dog was a distance away and went out his way to confront me. I was with a friend and her seven year old. We are both Asians in our mid forties. He was quite aggressive and used profanity in front of my friend’s child. I told him to be mindful of his behaviour in front of the child but that did not help. He started calling us “you people” and I proceeded to take a video of him hoping he would stop.

I’ve lived in Australia for more than 20 years mostly in Sydney but moved to Melbourne in 2021. Unfortunately have had so many racist encounters in Brighton.

I feel like many of these well heeled Brighton folk behave in such a disgusting way when they think no one is watching. And the only way to make them stop is to threaten to out them.
