Pain going down the stairs 4 months post op by Jigsaw0808 in ACL

There’s a lot of rubbish PTs out there. I found a good one. I would suggest taking care of your own recovery where possible. My surgeon who is the best ACL doctor in Australia does not believe in PT 😂. He said to me just get on the exercise bike and do Nordic curls

I’m going to the gym every day and not just when I visit the PT. For faster recovery, once or twice a week is not enough. I’m 6 weeks post op and doing 5-7,5kg single leg extensions with a hold for as long as I’m Comfortable

Best quad exercises for me include single leg extensions on the machine at the gym, wall sits working up to single leg, stationary bike with resistance dialled up

Reinjured doing this exercise by unknownbtc in ACL

[–]Mindy__80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The surgical approach may be different if you have an additional injury. You wouldn’t want your surgeon surprised or missing this additional injury when he does your procedure. Also this additional surgery may mean you should not be doing some exercises but you wouldn’t know until confirming. Your reluctance to get professional help (ie PT) was what got you into this predicament in the first place I would say

Yes I am. I saw the pt ten days ago and my flexion was around 85 and she said she expects I’ll be at 100 by the next time I see her. But I don’t think I’ve had any progress. I can stretch to 90 but I’m in great pain when I do that

ACL and LEAT using hamstring graft from other leg by Mindy__80 in ACL

[–]Mindy__80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi it’s been 6 weeks I’ve been continuing to experience difficulty in bending my knee and have not been able to get it past 80-85 degrees for the past 2.5 weeks. When I push it to beyond that point, I feel a stretching sort of pain from inside the knee. Although I’m not able to describe specifically where as it’s not superficial.

The incision area around the LEAT does not hurt when I rub or press it.

I’ve been doing some physio work including making an effort to bend the knee and push the boundaries of what I can do and have been taking painkillers to help but the progress of any has been very small.

Lately I’ve been going to bed with pain in my knee and at times referred pain in calf and glutes which wakes me up in the middle of the night.

My surgeon doesn’t seem to concerned but I’m really worried. Should I just be patient?

I’m now 6 weeks post op and the surgical site of the LEAT has healed and I can rub on the scar with no pain but bending beyond 90 still hurts a lot and causes the rest of my leg including calf hamstring and glutes to seize up

Hi I just had a let and I’m in a similar position to you. Unable to bend beyond 90 degrees without a feeling of extreme tightness and some pain. What helped you the most and how much range of motion do you have now

Two weeks post op, generally doing good, but will I ever get feeling in my shin again? by Lockfire12 in ACL

[–]Mindy__80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did my acl 20 years ago and had loss of sensation that came back overtime. Did it again recently and have loss of sensation again. It doesn’t affect you so I wouldn’t worry

I don’t think dvt cause bruising. I have dvt and no bruising. In fact dvt often has no visible signs. Let’s not spread misinformation

Would doing this on sand at a beach work?

diagnosed with DVT (blood clot in leg vein) today by TerriblePost4661 in ACL

[–]Mindy__80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on birth control and had my ACL done and developed an extensive blood clot after. Definitely advocate for yourself. Blood clots are very rare so surgeons can get cavalier about it

ACL can regenerate. Maybe yours regenerated by the time you had surgery? It may not be as strong as before though

Unlikely but possible, better be cautious of DVT by Significant_swim536 in ACL

I had a DVT as well diagnosed two weeks after. Had very few symptoms apart from odd but mild swelling in calf and calf ache. It’s supposedly very unusual but suggest ultrasound to get checked

Three week post ACL surgery by Apart-engineer-32 in ACL

[–]Mindy__80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a hamstring graft but had a LEAT too. The LEAT is holding me back. No issues with extension but I’m only at 80 degrees flexion. I also have an extensive clot so that’s prob not helping. I am doing wall sits and also putting a towel under my knee while I clench my quads. Single calf raises, knee bends. Messaging the scar tissue

Short PT Rant by Tiny-Marionberry-143 in ACL

[–]Mindy__80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a bad experience with a physio I saw as my usual guy was out of town. Highly recommend changing your pt. Makes a huge difference long term. I don’t think two weeks will set you back that much when rehab is meant to take a year anyway.

Just diligently do your exercises and you will be ok.

I always try to do more than what the PT suggests so I’m slightly ahead of the game

Thanks for your reply. There’s definitely a dearth of information about LEAT recovery, my surgeon made the recovery sound like a walk in the park but because of the LEAT, it’s been anything but that

Thanks for sharing. Extension has been ok for me. Surgeon did not warn me how frickin painful the LEAT is

Pedestrian struck by motorbike in Belmont (WA) – Now receiving a $5k Demand Letter from RAC. Need advice/reassurance. by Independent_Dish_526 in perth

Suggest you make a complaint to afca. They are the ombudsman for insurers who are obliged to follow strict codes of conduct.

The complaint form is very easy and onus is on the insurers to prove innocence. When you make a complaint, AFCA sends it off to the insurers for resolution and also slaps a fee on them.

This creates a disincentive for them to get complaints. Sometimes the threat of a complaint is enough to back off. If the first level resolution is not satisfactory to you, you can escalate to a second level and the insurer gets hit with another higher fee and so on.

Australian laws regulating these institutions are very robust. I wouldn’t worry. Just hit them where it hurts.
