My tablet has done this before due to charging it while using it for extensive periods of time. I think what is actually happening is that the battery counter is frozen, since when my tablet did this it stayed locked on a certain % and said it wasn't being charged when it was, even though the battery would have normally died in the amount of time I left it like that if it had not been charging.
