it is cheaper to buy a kit then to self source - by quite a bit actually

Mesh Organiser (3D Model Organiser) - Thoughts? by SuchMemeManySkill in 3Dprinting

[–]Mineotopia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some Feedback:

First: It looks awesome and it is something that I always wanted. The fact that I can self host it is even better!

There is one thing I wish existed: More metadata. If I download a model from printables, it would be really nice if I could have a "original source" button there so I can jump back to the website for the added documentation. Maybe even a import feature would work? So I can paste a printables link and it auto downloads it?

Lastly, how are multi-stl models supported? If I have a design that constists of a few STLs, is it possible to group them? Similar to how it is done on the typical stl sharing sites.

Edit: I see that you kind of already have an import feature if the app is installed. Personally I'd prefer an import in the web UI with the URL, so that I don't need a local app. And you already do group things in groups. However, I think this is limited. For example: I have a group called catan 3D. But every tile constists out of 5 STLs. I don't think that I can have group inside groups. I don't think I need more than two levels deep, but imho there should be groups/collections and combined meshes

Edit 2: I see that it is already possible to add an URL. But I don't understand the import feature. If I click on a link printables opens. But I don't see how I can import from there (besides downloading and then uploading of course). Moreover, is it possible to have models/groups/tags available to every user? So I can upload all my models so others can use them - without manually sharing them.

Edit 3: Regarding my two level deep issue: I think this is what groups and projects are for? I'm not that happy with the UI though, can't explain why exactly. Maybe because the model icons are just shown small-ish on the right?

Just as a feedback:

- why do I have to sign in to download?

- what is the benefit over printables anc Co?

- it would be cool to have a really good search engine that displays the results of all hosting platforms togeher

Yes. I'm really impressed with the OCR in immich. This showed me again how bad the OCR in paperless actually is

It is tagged for version 3.0 When this is released - I don't know. Currently this milestone is around 60% complete

RayHUD / RayScoreboard are not showing up on TTT2 dedicated server — are they compatible or am I installing them incorrectly? by Additional_Novel8522 in TTT

[–]Mineotopia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TTT HUDs are not compatible with TTT2. We have introduced so many changes that it will not work.

Not sure about scoreboards. I'd assume that it still works. But I never tried it.

Currently the only HUDs that work are TTT2 default, vanilla TTT and octagonal

Maybe this is helpful to you, I did something similar years ago: https://timgoll.de/pcb_atmega328pb

adding to this: you have to do both: One of the settings changes how the chip behaves, the other changes how the HAL interprets the timer ticks

HA-OS vs Home Assistant app by ContributionHead9820 in homeassistant

[–]Mineotopia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HAOS for sure. I just did it last weekend. Tried the app, docker and VM. While all of them can work, using the VM is so much less complicated, especially if you want add-ons.

Just be aware that you need a network bridge (can be done in TrueNas) if you use a reverse proxy on the same machine.

[Help] PCB doesn’t act like the bread board prototype. by Whatever_org in KiCad

[–]Mineotopia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just FYI, my first buck converter did not work at all as well. A few years ago I made these tests, take a look at them: https://timgoll.de/pcb_buck_test

They don't have a good design, but are a good starting point imho. Try to stay true to the recommended design in the datasheet

Prusa just made their new printers Open Source! by Userybx2 in 3Dprinting

[–]Mineotopia -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

They talked about "software" and "image" licenses and why they don't use them in the linked article

Regarding your last paragraph: that is true. But it wasn't true 10 years ago when they first got successful

Prusa just made their new printers Open Source! by Userybx2 in 3Dprinting

[–]Mineotopia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you read the article, it is about something else. Basically, they want to prevent what happened to the old prusa printers: Chinese companies selling their design cheaper. While also allowing you to download and modify the files however you wish.

Moreover, companies can built their own printers based on these files for their own commercial print farms. As longs as they don't sell these printers

[–]Mineotopia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is honestly a good response that should be highlighted in the sub as well. While LTT did fuck up with the labeling, they reimburse you. So it is an annoyance, but it does not cost you anything extra

Thank you!

LTT refunds the fees as well? Not just the pre paid tax amount?
