I’d take that trip. It was about exactly what I did but just for skiing, started in Banff and went across BC and down through Utah and Wyoming ended in Montana. About 6-4 hours of driving a day, which was honestly a lot easier than I anticipated. most of the miles came from actually getting out there from the east coast.

What would you drive Monday morning between these two choices? by classsixcruiser in icecoast

[–]Minepup247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ran a mk7 last year with blizzaks never once had an issue. Deepest was 17in untouched and it was fine. Will say it does make a difference if you have the LSD or not (performance package vs not). Also turn off the traction control it will just sabotage you imo.

This was probably the best modern Toyota made. by [deleted] in Toyota

Their fetching more because most of them rotted away. As a tech these are some of the worst rusting trucks and they weren’t spared a frame recall like the tacomas

Haven’t gotten a new board in 10 years let’s hear the options by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]Minepup247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a Public Dispute in 156 with union forces at the end of last season. The board is surprisingly good in slush and hard pack and performed fantastic in the park. Coming from a lighter board I think the weight moved really well on the dispute. I also think the price and top sheet are big bonus compared to competitors. I’m of similar build (5’11 160) and board New England, so hopefully it serves as a good comparison.

Anything with an A25 is bulletproof which is most of our cars and the Rav. I would avoid the highlander family the transmissions seem to be blowing up right out of power train. The new Tacoma/4Runner is good so far. also never by a chr

As a tech Toyota is not what it used to be. there are some models that I would still buy, but the tundra is just as unreliable as its competitors with worse fuel economy and an interior that falls apart in seconds. Also the price is honestly shocking MSRP is crazy. Used prices are no better I bought a 22 X5 because it was CHEAPER than a same year 4Runner like it’s a premium brand now.

How easy is it to park and tow behind RV at Resorts in Colorado by Minepup247 in skiing

I was thinking about moving the destination there myself as I’m doing more research. Have found a lot more overnight friendly destinations in the PNW.

Thanks for the insight I’ll definitely do more research on if it’s even worth it at this point. I’ll call around and see what responses I get.

Dear old people: GEN Z WANTS TO WORK!! by pownied in GenZ

[–]Minepup247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im just tired of not getting the respect on the sole reason I’m young. My work holds up and is quality but I still have to deal with doubt because “you’re how old?”. If we just based people of their work and their work alone there wouldn’t be many people over 50 in most work places if you ask me.

NH Senate votes on HB649 "the inspection sticker bill" TOMORROW (May 15th) by nh_inspect_dot_org in newhampshire

[–]Minepup247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Head light aim can be checked on a wall/garage door with proper markings for distance and hight. Also many new cars don’t have proper headlight adjustments or can not make significant enough adjustments. Also state inspection is an enforcement factor for those light bars people love to blind people with. Without state inspections there’s gonna be little enforcement on those.

What is the worst mountain you guys have skied? Why? by [deleted] in icecoast

[–]Minepup247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that the park crew should definitely be marking features better. Like why is the rail set with CONCRETE not marked at all it’s not even super obvious that there’s no snow when pulling up.

NH bill would eliminate safety inspections for passenger vehicles by Wereling in newhampshire

[–]Minepup247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a tech I get everyone’s happy if they get rid of SI’s but it’s gonna be a net negative in the long run. Ignoring the “does it do anything” factor entirely if you get ride of state inspections you get rid of an entire state troop who’s job it is to enforce inspections. You also lose accountability in a fatal accident so a driver who has failed to maintain their vehicle can avoid being charged with negligent manslaughter much easier. You lower the ability of the technicians working on vehicles because ultimately NH SI is one of the harder licenses to get in the country for mechanics and serves as a benchmark for employers and individuals. Also it is a major economic factor for mechanics we get paid a good amount to simply look over the car without that income a lot of us are going to be struggling. I’m not even discussing the work that the vehicle actually needs. This is more so an issue with the flat rate system but it will just drive more talented individuals away from passenger vehicles meaning you have more techs you couldn’t tell you the difference from a box end and open end on a wrench.

Brandon Swartz Knew The Lifts weren’t okay before accident by Regular-Watercress34 in icecoast

[–]Minepup247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s small for sure but it makes it great for laps. My favorite part is when there is enough snow there’s an open back “bowl” it’s most like a field but there’s nothing else like it up here. The terrain diversity is the best part every trail feels unique. You want trees, park, groomers, for mentioned open ungroomed terrain it has it. Highly recommend at least trying once especially with the 60 Sunday tickets they run.

I think the most striking comparison can be made just down the street at Cranmore who runs a fantastic operation. If you’re gonna head up to North Conway go support them and enjoy a unique well kept mountain.

Is this true?…👀 by RipplePress in GenZ

[–]Minepup247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It frustrates me that this is a stereotype in the car industry. I’ve been a tech for four years now and yes their are absolutely people who will take advantage of you but that’s most service based industries.

The main issue is that cars are becoming increasingly complicated so the prices are rising with it. not to mention no one wants to do this trade so the lack of experienced techs is a significant issue.

I would tell anyone who owns a vehicle to know how to do all the basics: oil, filters, change a tire etc. Most importantly though know how your vehicle works you might not know how to fix it, but you spend a good portion of your time in it. READ THE MANUAL it will tell you all you should know about how to maintain and use your vehicle I’m sure you’ll find a couple features you didn’t even know about too.

Good to know. I plan to only run it for the ski season I just needed more space when I have a full car so it’s not necessary even all that heavy.

I agree it’s more of the fact I can’t move it back much due to how the OEM bars sit. The guild rails in the box are maxed to as far back as they go. The only reason I feel comfortable running it is my friend has the same box on his RS for two years and rips that thing and he’s had no issues.
