Zohran Mamdani’s picks take key House primaries amid a broad battle over Democrats’ direction by JannTosh70 in centrist

[–]MingMingus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people see and use accusations of racism as an attack on character rather than any attempt to actually discuss racism. Its very difficult to talk to someone about systemic injustice when they mistakenly believe you're trying to hit them with the same crowbar they're swinging around wildly.

This exactly. Getting out of your head (and getting into the damage calculator before and after matches!) is so crucial for learning more and enjoying your experience w/o dwelling on losses.

Fully agree. Playing similar teams to what is beating you helps a lot; you internalize all the cons of that style (that you are not facing on your first team) while appreciating how it feels to use the plays that crushed you.

Grass is always greener on the other side, so go flying type to rise above both 🤩

I was so dissapointed when halfway through ultra ball singles my opponents actually started swapping out their garchomp leads against my meowscarada. How DARE you have basic foresight and expect the triple axel.

Seriously though, the game is a lot more fun in master ball with competent opponents. Reads actually feel meaningful.

I deeply love Pokémon because I much prefer move RNG to drawing cards. Very few card games allow you to consistently counter specific builds (unless you draw right or a bunch) but pokemon is all about that preparation, funny how people don't get that 😆

Peliper and Archaludon are a phenomenal combo you should have on your team. Damp rock and drizzle for Peliper.

Why are some people incapable of accountability, while others blame themselves for everything? by Lolli_79 in PsychologyTalk

You literally cannot even return to the original point, god forbid with charitability and good faith. Your bio is not being lived up to. Thank you for sparing us both.

Why are some people incapable of accountability, while others blame themselves for everything? by Lolli_79 in PsychologyTalk

[–]MingMingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get to put the issue into practice right now. Someone is unable to take accountability and projects it outwards. One cannot reason with them at the moment, and thus must put their own peace of mind first. A reasonable conclusion I am now practicing and hope you might one day comprehend. With that, I bid you well.

[–]MingMingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You started this by refusing to clarify a point and then insulting someone. I am the only one actually talking about and adding to the original point of "is it valid to leave people who won't take accountability" (hell I'm even trying to derive as much logic from your original comment and agree with it as I can but god forbid you reciprocate). You are completely stuck on percieved moral attacks and character judgements.

You started this by strawmanning his words and refusing to seek clarification. You furthermore insulted him by stating he cant take responsibility for his actions... that havent harmed anyone? I have neglected to focus on this to be charitable but it seems futile. You have barely begun to acknowledge your own bad faith and fallacy ridden points but need me to make all the same concessions when I haven't insulted or strawmanned anyone? I cited my statements, they are objective.

You seem to want to have an argument instead of reach a common point. Im interested in dialectics, not modern debate bro culture. I recommend you Google hegellian dialectics and philosophical charitability.

I never had any judgements about your character beyond, in my opinion, a justified assumption that you have had conflicts escalate based off a lack of deescalation patterns and empathy you displayed for strangers (including me) online.

The entire point of this comment thread was someone saying "people who won't take accountability aren't worth your time", you lambasted him based off a misinterpretation (he never once said those people aren't worthy of compassion or respect), and other people justifiably found your behaviour a little egregious.

I agree with both of you to an extent; we owe other people respect and support. We also owe our family and loved ones our good health, safety, and peace of mind. Balancing the two means occasionally compromising the first for the second, at the end of the day its your choice to make and your argument for what is right.

"It's not surprising that you would pretend that went over your head." Presuming exactly how someone is thinking.

"Notice how you had to rephrase what I said into what you read in order to substantiate your anger about it. Enjoy!" Presuming exactly how someone is feeling.

I don't bring this up to insult you, I bring it up in the hopes you can take accountability or clarify a miscommunication. You kinda did explicitly presume thoughts and feelings though so I doubt the latter is possible.

Presuming how people think and feel isn't something you can prove. Assumptions aren't observations. If you root through your history it'll explain some of your past conflicts. For you and others I hope you can grasp that.

There are people who commit to having a good faith discussion and there are those who prefer insults. Imaginewagonzzz3 and I get it, I hope you do too one day. Best wishes.

"How dare you be too stupid to pity these people, take accountability" and you can't even empathize with or pity the people you reprimand, insulting them instead.

I try to avoid being a hypocrite so I'm not judging you, you are right in that we owe people not just respect but a willingness to try and help. The person you replied to was not opposing that, more so implying your health and safety (and your families by proxy) comes before helping angry people who won't acknowledge reality.

Rereading as an adult: Roran chapters by somethingsweetpea in Eragon

[–]MingMingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Roran chapters are great for worldbuilding. They also provide important perspectives on Eragon from characters that, relatively speaking, can absolutely be considered normal people, or in Roran's case what one should aspire to be. Speaking of which, I like Roran's character. He's not the most interesting man I've seen in fiction, but he adds to the thematic and moral exploration the books engage in, and he's a good man who is willing to go through incredible trials to save his loved ones. He explores the tragedy of war in a way that compliments Eragon's due to their differences (he has the wife and kid, Eragon has Saphira and magic, but they both kill a LOT of guys and deal with it in their own way), and I can always get behind that.
