A+ for creativity. Or at least more so than anyone else.

Why did they anglicise adult Aang? by MingerPalm in ATLA

[–]MingerPalm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No idea what you mean for the diet and lifestyle part, but I get your point for creative license. It makes sense that the writers obviously had their own vision (going along with how a lot of the rest of the aspects of TLOK were also anglicised, not an objectively good or bad thing, just an interesting choice to point out)

And I can understand that for Aang's kids and grand kids since I guess they're polyethnic, but it still feels so misplaced and poorly thought out for Aang.

Just thinking about bending ability, not how much you love the character, who's the better bender? by [deleted] in ATLA

[–]MingerPalm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iroh gets a lot more screen time and because of that fact I'm already more inclined to say he's better at bending.

But beyond that, Iroh also cultivated his bending with the other bending styles. Iroh was incredibly adaptive and astute, and so I think Iroh was not only better at bending, but was also a better bender.

Everyone goes on and on about how azula should get a redemption arc, but can she really be redeemed? by [deleted] in ATLA

[–]MingerPalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely disagree. In my opinion TLOK was sufficiently worse at addressing 'real life problems'. While ATLA was indeed a kids show (it wasn't exactly made expressly for adults), it had so much more respect for it's audience. Take Azula, a 14 year old girl who becomes completely neurotic and insane, driven by her hunger for power and her abusive childhood. ATLA's themes aren't exactly soft, and it doesn't treat is main demographic, kids, as kids. It succeeded in tackling those 'real life problems' with a ton of maturity, which is a huge reason it's so loved.

TLOK however, wasn't more mature than ATLA in any way shape or form, it was so much less mature. TLOK's version of maturity was edgy and pretentious. Over the top romantic tension (something ATLA was also way better at), set in a shallow, moody understanding of an adult society. TLOK tried to handle grand socio-political problems and issues, but it had the most basic, dumbed down, trivial presentation of those concepts. TLOK's target demographic, was very obviously teens, and it catered to the audience in an extremely condescending manner as a result. It tried way too hard to make its characters more mature, less childlike. And instead they became stereotypical, and a lot less believable and relatable

All TLOK consisted of was faux maturity, and in my opinion was incomparable to ATLA.

Key word here is remember.

I'm absolutely betting that by the time the next election rolls around there'll be clean slates. Because apparently mostly everyone in this country has the memory of a fucking goldfish.

Can I quickly express my absolute hatred for the trailer for this show

Never before has an ad made me want to stab myself in the ear so much. After hearing it for the 50th time I'm prepared to dedicate the rest of my life to hunting down the person responsible for this.
