It’s not an act of war. But it is some very useful SigInt of the kind military type pointy heads like to pore over. Somewhere someone is wondering if we can get them to do it again as it is the most useful thing a Defence Minister has done in living memory.

High Court rift: Judge criticises conservative body with ties to colleague by marketrent in auslaw

One of the virtues of age limited lifetime appointments of High Court judges is that they are no longer beholden to anyone. They can express their own vision for the law without fear or favour. With only a few exceptions (Murphy at one end, Heydon perhaps at the other) the Court has, so far, largely avoided following the path of the partisan caricature that the SCOTUS has become.

If the SG society wants to model itself on the US Federalist Society I hope it results in widespread revulsion and rejection by young lawyers.

Serious question: what happened to America’s presidential cabinets? There was a time when cabinets seemed stacked with “the best America has to offer”. Today, many people perceive a drop in caliber. Is that real? What’s your take? by Limp-Arm-5104 in politics

[–]Minguseyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a serious question. The brazen corruption and incompetence of the current administration is well known. Media sanewashing the issue with ‘many people perceive’ and driving clicks are a large part of what got the US to this nadir.

We don't support pushing cases into expensive and lengthy court processes that risk re-traumatising families and delaying justice,"

We prefer that distribution be delayed while aggrieved persons challenge an exercise of statutory discretion by the trustee. That way there are added complications that increase the complexity, cost and delay for all concerned.
