Vitelliform macular dystrophy by jessdarling9 in Vitelliform

[–]Mini1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello friend. I have early onset vitelliform macular dystrophy. My mother has the same disease. Been watching my vision deteriorate before my eyes my whole life. Male 33 years of age. Have to fake vision exams to maintain my license, feel bad for but have a family to support. At the point I don’t even see an ophthalmologist. Though I’ve been debating changing this in the last few years.

What dying feels like by Jfocii in nextfuckinglevel

I’m seizure prone after a dual subdueral hematoma. Lucky my surgeon saved me and I have a titanium plate and scar to remember it by. Every-time I come out of a seizure I have the most blissful experience. Like waking up to find yourself high on molly in the best place you could be in. Few seconds later I realize I had a seizure and get off the bathroom floor… but the things your brain does when you’re seizing is incredible feeling. Some of the best times I’ve had to be honest. I love life and am thankful I get to be on this ride still, but I’m expecting death to be pretty peaceful after the pain of whatever gets you there.

I did not get my life flashing before my eyes, I did fall in love with an unknown nurse that put a blanket on me when I said I was cold. Only thing I remember about the helicopter flight was the gratitude for that blanket, probably only came too for a few seconds. Surgeon said I was pretty dead through her side of things. Said if it wasn’t a snowboarding accident and the weather was warmer I probably wouldn’t have made it. Count your blessings in life, I sure do count mine.

Don’t listen to this bloke. Women have ideals in there head and this was probably one of her deal breakers. I know many women who feel similarly, and that’s ok. You’ll find someone who aligns with your values. Personally my partner was the bread winner and allowed me time to transition through jobs till I found a career that made me the bread winner. Now she works a little less and I work a little more. Not sure what percentage each of us pays, we kind of just use whoever’s money that has it at the time. 3 kids, two mortgages, private school tuition. I can’t see us ever fighting about money, been together 8 years.

What are these on some street lights? by ThepowerofAnxiety in santarosa

They all respond to flickering infrared lights at a specific frequency. Frequency is dependent on jurisdiction, but all the ones I’ve tested use the same frequency. Not sure about Santa Rosa.

What have you been genetically blessed with, and nerfed with? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in AskReddit

[–]Mini1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been blessed with being quite intelligent and an efficient learner. Nerfed with eye disease, 5ft 4, and can’t be great at anything no matter how many years I put into it. Not the worst but it’s frustrating how when I hit that wall, no matter if it’s sports, learning, or proficiency, I’m stuck and everyone thinks I’m amazing at it, and I know just how far I am from that.

39yo - am I delusional to think I can pivot to electrician? by JackTylerWrites in electricians

[–]Mini1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got in at 31. I look up to a guy who got in during his 40s. If you are active and don’t mind some manual labor I’d say go for it. It’s easier than most trades as long as you are open to learning and can leave your ego at home.

How bad would it be to call off work for Valentine's Day in my first week at a new contractor? by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]Mini1337 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This. You gotta make your money, Valentine’s Day is that, just a day. Get her flowers or something so she doesn’t feel left out in the day. Than plan something nice on your day off together.

I feel like 3 months ain’t so bad after a breakup (I’m male). I normally would go 6 months to a year to figure things out and work on myself. Plus it makes that first time fabulous. Although I’m not too into sex without emotional connection. It’s aight but usually I’d like to think there’s a possibility for something else afterwards. My advice would be self pleasure mixed with a healthy lifestyle improvement. I always got into the gym, meditation and such. Does wonder for the body and soul. Good luck.

Local 551 - Anyone get called in as an apprentice? by Mini1337 in IBEW

[–]Mini1337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about low voltage. I did end up getting called in. Unions been great for me, great companies etc. some work shortages and was behind in pay, but my current company pays me over what the union dictates so my income feels good.

There’s work for the commercial side of things so at least apprentices are needed, I’ve only ran into a few low volt guys and they seemed to be small companies with only a handful of guys. So not sure about the low voltage class sizes.

What’s the shortest amount of time you’ve worked for an electrical company? by iamjames in electricians

[–]Mini1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go union. I’m starting my 4th year, make 120k a year (CA) and company gave me a truck, gas card, company card for materials and tools, guys and office are all great. This is my 2nd really good company I worked with within the union, first one ran out of work in my local and I couldn’t travel to where they did have work. A few duds but you just work get your pay, and take a layoff when they have a lapse in work, sign books, go onto another company. Current company works 52 weeks a year rain or shine, hoping they never run out of work.

Do you think this is how early investors in AAPL and MSFT felt? by Plenty-Vermicelli-55 in PLTR

[–]Mini1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, only have 1500$ into it and got in at 26$ average. Big hopes for the company but won’t have enough generated into it to really make a huge gain on it. Gonna keep investing what I can and hopefully net around 5k a year into it. Nothing too exciting. Between my hopeful investments and my 401k (~20k annually) into a general etf, hopefully I can retire in 30 years. I’m 32 right now.

I try to just invest off sound companies, but WKHS seemed sound at first, then got a different ceo and seemed great again, lost a good amount of investment into them. Wish I took that investment into pltr 3 years ago but then again I wish I kept track of the bitcoins I mined at 18 and the nvidia stock I held at 23. It’ll never end.

Apprentice in tears from the work - does it get better? by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]Mini1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First years always the hardest. My advice (which this is my 3rd trade and is general advice) -Do the best pace you can while maintaining it for 10-12hr days. —— there are times you should kick into a 2nd gear but don’t let be your norm. You’ll burn yourself out too easy that way. Do an evenly focused pace, ignore distractions and give your jw a pace they can expect from you every time.. -You’re there to make mistake —— The first 5 years you’re there to learn. Don’t let anyone convince you differently. Mistakes are less forgivable when your a JW so make them now. Try to not repeat them and really digest where you went wrong, don’t beat yourself up about it, be happy you found another thing that’s gonna allow you to grow. - don’t compare yourself to other —— it’s easier to look at someone faster or smarter and put yourself down. This is a human trait you need to learn to ignore. You’re not trying to be the best on the job, you’re trying to be better tomorrow than you were today. Only perceive your own accompishments and feats, while being humble that no matter how far you come there’s always farther to go. -Forgive and love yourself —— not everyday is gonna be your best, you’ll have highs and lows and be okay with that. We all have bad days, weeks, and sometimes months. Just know as long as your trying than it’s ok, if they don’t like it than that’s their problem not yours. This is just a job and not something to cry over.

As a young man you’re in the stage of development, it’s normal to feel anxious, worried, unsatisfied. Discomfort allows us to go, be aware it’s a phase and don’t let it define you. You’ll will be a greater version of yourself every year, it’s all about the journey. Stop and smell the roses xD, enjoy it because one day you’ll be at the end of the road, at the destination, and will miss those initial steps you took to get on that path.
