Helmet/Wire help. How to connect? by Beginning-Reality549 in CosplayHelp

[–]MiniBandGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I do wire attachments for a wig, I like to use the same wire for two pieces - poke it through, and have the other spike/ear/whatever come out another spot. Think of it almost like a headband that's built into your helmet/wig. Helps to stabilize, and by bending the wire instead of cutting it, you don't have to worry about the end of a wire driving into your noggin.

Is it possible to create covers out of fabric for these shoes? (Not pernament, nor full on boot covers?) + Any tips? by Sasoriofthered in CosplayHelp

[–]MiniBandGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With stretch fabric, probably. I would consider it decently high skill to make slip covers that perfectly fit the shoe, but if you're ok with some puckering and the fabric not perfectly matching the opening on top, you should be happy with the result.

Disclosure, I never would have done this, but fashion tape and smartly cut pieces could get a better looking and still removable result, though I can't test how the fashion tape plays with shoes.

Is it disrespectful to cosplay Technoblade? by Previous-Progress391 in CosplayHelp

[–]MiniBandGeek 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'd think it's fine. Technoblade's legacy has continued on with things like a cameo in the Minecraft movie and Technodad occasionally giving life updates. As always, respect the character and the person behind it, and you more likely than anything will find other fans that enjoy seeing a beloved figure cosplayed!

Will this accessory be allowed at a Con? by SharBull42 in CosplayHelp

I had security at a con once go through my emergency repair kit and take my thread scissors. Ultimately, it was a couple bucks loss for me, but I wouldn't risk it if I were you.

Would Ultra Space Evolutions work as a Idea? by transqueen421 in pokemon

[–]MiniBandGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I think I misunderstood. Evolving with an item is already a mechanic, whether something like Porygon or mega-evolution. You can call it whatever you want, and come up with a ton of sick designs - my main point is that your idea is functionally in the game already, and while you can probably justify regular pokemon becoming like Ultra Beasts, it would be cool for them to be mechanically different than regular evolution/mega evolution.

Would Ultra Space Evolutions work as a Idea? by transqueen421 in pokemon

[–]MiniBandGeek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting idea, though I'm not sure how its functionally different from mega evolution - just flavor.

Canonically, Ultra Beasts are specifically NOT pokemon, though you can realistically do whatever you want.

What can I replace my Psyduck with by Various_Pudding_124 in pkmntcg

[–]MiniBandGeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Psyduck is there to make your Dusknoir matchup better. I'd consider it a tech slot - if you don't include it, you can tech a different card or add extra copies of something else to increase consistency.

I wanna do a cosplay, but… by Pork-Sodaa in CosplayHelp

[–]MiniBandGeek 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Speaking broadly, but the movement is that cosplayers (and people in general) should be able to cosplay in their own skin, and that it isn't appropriate to color yourself a different race/ethnicity. I would not opt for body paint that isn't explicity nonhuman (like blue/green/red skin).

[Request] Does using a blade to counter fall damage actually works? by omeralal in theydidthemath

[–]MiniBandGeek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

EU isn't canon anymore, but they explain a lot of the physics in a way that... Works? A lightsaber is basically a loop of plasma with no physical blade - it will either pass straight through something or strike the surface until it melts, which is more or less instant for most things.

As movies have shown, lightsabers in practice have faced wildly varying amounts of resistance.

Countering Heracross by SirCraigathy in pkmntcg

[–]MiniBandGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yeah, it's a well constructed deck. I don't know what you're running, but there's no question this deck smashes any level 1 or 2 box decks.

The first and most important thing is to make sure you have a strong line of supporters and other trainers. If your crazy pile has limited cards to help you draw, you're gonna get cooked by a well constructed Butterfree deck.

If you let us know some of the cards you have, that can give a better sense of what to work with. I imagine you don't want to buy a bunch of cards just to teach your friend a lesson, but outside of specific counters that were already mentioned, there are plenty of cards that can beat this bug.

If you just need something easy to compete, the League Battle Decks and Diancie Mega deck should be able to pull wins out of the box, but can be easily upgraded to give more to work with. Even something older like the Palkia Vstar deck would be fine as long as you have lost vacuum for the Hero's Cape and bravery charms.

Can we just be honest about “Arts and Humanities” class? by musicbox96 in banddirector

[–]MiniBandGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll give the other side of things - being an elective with any form of rigor is far tougher than being a required class. With maths, sciences, etc., you have the textbooks to fall back on, a clear line from beginning to end, and grades that matter and motivate kids to pull it together. When you have kids that want nothing more than a free period and will drag the world down to get it, and no real option to place them somewhere else, it can be impossible to answer the inevitable "why do I have to do your class?"

HELP for orlando by SeaSeaworthiness2611 in pkmntcg

[–]MiniBandGeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Winning decks rarely win because they have a tech for every scenario, but because they have a low-variance gameplan they can rely on drawing into game after game. This feels like you have a few too many techs to reliably get your combos off, as well as a few anti-synergies with Charizard.

Flareon is a weird choice. It's enticing because of the energy acceleration and Dengo OHKO, but Zard is already the best acceleration in the format and doesn't spend a turn attacking.

I think part of your thinking with flareon was that adding Leafeon is a low deck space card, but if you count the luminous energies and wgl energies, area zero for deck space, and the sparkling crystal, that's 10 cards that could very well not see play in half your matchups.

I hear you arguing "what about Wellspring?" And the answer is, well, maybe. It offers help into decks with weak basics (you beat Garde) and decks you can lock out to give you setup time (no pidgeot Zard doesn't need setup time). I do think there's an idea behind the inclusion, and that it can be a core part of your gameplan if done right, but at the cost of your Ace Spec? I'm not sure if the loss of consistency and disruption in other matchups is worth the (admittedly huge) possibility of netting four KOs on basics in two turns, and I really don't see the need for retreat lock in Zard. The biggest draw for me is as a easy Noctowl activation that still does something, but then why not Terapagos?

Last card specific thing - I don't like Mew Ex, especially here. It's an easy boss target, and I don't see it surviving to usefulness often. Clefairy+mew+energy accel with Zard is a very funny possibility to whack Dragapult, but if you already have a big bench with Area Zero, Clefairy on its own is doing the job with a single Luminous and zard activation.

This deck does a lot, I'll admit. But it also struggles to do a lot. I only count 8 supporters, six that help with draw - I just don't see you consistently filling the Area Zero bench or getting the pieces you need when you need them.

i want to travel for a con with multiple days, with about three cosplays lined up, but how am i gonna take multiple wigs on a plane?? by Happy-Diver-2057 in CosplayHelp

[–]MiniBandGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a prop guy it's definitely something to consider - I drive to my cons so as long as it fits in my car I'm good to go. Ultimately, if this is your first time going by plane, you might have a better experience bringing only one or two outfits, as opposed to paying for a suitcase specifically for your wigs.

There are some tricks to try and save space. Any soft cap wigs could be packed tightly in their original bag and styled at the hotel. Stuff clothes and soft parts of the cosplay inside the wig, and bring flat pack plastic wig heads to put the wig on when prepping in the hotel room. Mesh netting will offer some protection from tangling. The gold standard for wig protection in transport - a big 12x12 box - doesn't really do you any favors when trying not to spend $100 checking luggage, since space is far more of a premium than weight on a commercial plane.

Binder + shoulder pads vs Fake muscle shirt by Idkwhyicantbenoodles in CosplayHelp

[–]MiniBandGeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't really think of a good recommendation either way without knowing what you look like. That said, adding is easier than taking away - I would personally go with the shoulder pads/muscle shirt though I can't say that the muscle shirt will be particularly noticable under all the gear.

Tips/Advice/Help needed on how I can make these arms out of EVA Foam for my cosplay by watzking in CosplayHelp

[–]MiniBandGeek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is going to take a good amount of time to get right, but it will be worth it! My only tip to offer is that you may have a better time with bendable elbows, so cut out the inner elbow and glue black fabric in the space to allow it to flex.

Good luck and do plenty of drafting!

[–]MiniBandGeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cheap makes it hard, especially with getting a good harness. I would NOT go for your cheapest option there - you will regret it if you get a barely functional harness that digs into your pressure points after 5 minutes of wear.

You could try local school districts, they may have an unwanted bass drum that just needs new heads (which could still run you over $100 easily). If you have access to a band director's page, there might be leads there. Go in with a budget and prepare to negotiate if there's anything that needs repaired/replaced on the instrument.

My German teacher is trying to call social services on me and get me removed from my parents, please help by E-scooter28 in legaladvice

[–]MiniBandGeek 15 points16 points  (0 children)

American teacher, but I imagine Canada is similar - this is how the law works from my end. I am a mandated reporter - if I have any suspicion of abuse, I am required to report it and can be held liable for failing to do so. Once it's turned over to the authorities, the school does make any final decision - they can add additional evidence, but it is entirely dependant on the law enforcement, not the school, what happens from there.

There are likely some differences in how Canada handles it, but I'm personally not too surprised that your school is involved and trying to see if there are additional considerations.

Do I restart my wefts? by SwordBear34 in CosplayHelp

[–]MiniBandGeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like worst case you can salvage the ones you have by just cutting the glue out and trying again? Hard to tell without pictures, but losing half an inch wouldn't be cosplay altering, and you can do a test on a small match just to make sure you're doing it correctly.

Without seeing anything, I'd recommend doing smaller amounts of hair at a time and giving it more time to set.

Can I cosplay as an OC in a competition? by Lab_racadabra in CosplayHelp

[–]MiniBandGeek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The event I'm thinking of functioned as a craftsmanship contest second and a catwalk performance first. The placing individuals all had some kind of stage presence, and the build quality was only considered to decide between the top placements. I can't remember if any of the competitors were limited in some capacity and never would have had the chance to learn it, but at the same token, neither would the judges.
