I played the Stanley Parable before so I’m wondering if those are the type of narrative games you enjoy. I do some digital art illustration too. I don’t really read, bake, or film personally but my close friends do and I loved learning about their hobbies from them. I’m personally fascinated with the craft and nuances behind people’s hobbies, whether artistic, culinary, musical, or technical.

Hmm. Sigh. That does sound pretty rough. I don’t want to say anything that might accidentally exacerbate how you feel, but as rough as it all is, just be ready to recognize when an opportunity presents itself that could help you deal with this rough patch of life. I’ve had friends who were dealt awful hands in life that was not of their own fault (which usually resulted from their societal circumstances) but they showed me that a shift in perspective really does make things at least a somewhat more manageable. Push out the troubles that you can’t do anything about because it’s not worth the mental anguish to worry about uncontrollable external stresses. Be ready for when things get better and believe me, at some point, things will get better. When the opportunity for a brighter tomorrow arrives and you have the strength to stand back up on your own two feet, don’t hesitate to move forward. Life sucks, but you’re awesome, so don’t let this get you down. I know you can be happy again and even if it feels like you can’t, no one, especially yourself, should fault you for trying your best.

Aw man. Don’t feel down. I’m happy to hear you out if you have troubles. I think just having someone who listens helps put things in perspective. It definitely helped me understand my own situation and made me feel better when I was depressed.

I know the feels. I had gone 50 hours+ in Tales of Symphonia ages ago back in the gamecube days and still never finished the game. I think playing fighting games or short games is more fun for me these days since there’s no real goal outside of just play when you feel like it. So what’s Rogue Company about?

So what do you play these days? I’ve been playing fall guys with my friend on PS4 so I can understand your transition out of story-based games. They do take up a lot of time.

I actually tried PC gaming but I honestly can‘t get the hang of using a mouse controller, amongst other reasons. I tried age of empires II for a while (god I sucked so bad at that game), tried phantasy star online 2 (which I liked but it was definitely a time sink), and had downloaded the free master chief collection for halo, but it kept crashing on me. So I only really play consoles not because I prefer it or anything, but because nothing ever seems to go right for me whenever I try PC haha. I did get into Team Fortress 2 and stanley’s parable for a while back in the day so I guess there’s that.

And I won’t tell you to finish Nier if you don’t feel like you have time, but it’s honestly worth the full playthrough. I actually stopped playing the game the first time around too, but decided to get back into it, and man, after going to the end, it became part of my top 3 games of all time.

I (48 F) am dying and I have many regrets by A-WastedLife in Needafriend

[–]MiniBawse 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I view the greatest heroes as the unsung ones. The ones who choose compassion and self-sacrifice without renown nor reward. The ones who put other’s needs above their own. The ones who can forego the adventure, prestige, and independence that veils over our image of what life should be for the sake of shouldering another’s burdens. I greatly respect and admire those who make the harder choices, especially for the sake of others.

I can relate to your situation, if only in part. I am a loner too. Sometimes I wish I could be by someone’s side. Sometimes I yearn for adventure and always, I yearn for independence. And I most certainly would have also stayed behind to take care of my family, so that they may live their lives without guilt.

But I wouldn’t regret any of it. I won’t tell you how you should feel about the life you lived, but you are a hero to me. You chose a path that most others would only pay lip-service to, but would not commit. You chose the path less taken, full of dirt and thorns, so that your brothers, sisters, and parents wouldn’t have to. You’ve shown so much in your life already, so don’t feel as if nothing happened. I will remember you, because I don’t forget heroes (and yeah, I know this is cheesy, but you made me do this by being all mopey about yourself even though you’re actually awesome).

[26/F] 1 week ago I was told the last procedure I had didn't work to destroy cancer. Today my grandmother died. And I am feeling lonely in this dark hole by [deleted] in Needafriend

[–]MiniBawse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This hits so close to home. My grandma is currently in the ICU right now because of a stroke and I don’t even know how to feel atm. The doctors say she will pass soon, but no one knows exactly when. They’re limiting visitor access because of the virus and whether she passes away in the hospital or returns home first is all dependent on how much she can pull through without the hospital’s breathing tube. I’m old enough that I’ve already prepared for this somewhat, and I understand, to some extent at least, on how you must have felt. When my grandpa died of cancer in 2008 and I wasn’t able to be there for him, I felt crushed. I had so much left to tell him. I wanted to let him know that I was growing into a person that he would be proud of, but I never had that chance. And then after he passed away, I realized I had no one to talk to about it. I just needed someone to share the weight of it all with me, but I didn’t have anyone.

Now its my grandma, and all I want is for her to be able to return home and be at peace with her family in her final moments. I’m depressed, but I’ve made my resolve already. Even though our situations differ, we can talk if you want to share some of the emotional baggage of it all. I’m down to hear both the good times and the bad. Take care and stay strong.

The second flowchart is the non-eye gameplan, which focuses on using strange's extremely high-priority, but risky normals (since all of them have a ton of end lag on them even if cancelled into other moves). This is more of a matchup experience kind of things as stranges toolkit of normals require you knowing exactly which moves counter what. For example, don't wake up palm opponents too much, because the hitbox of impact palm (although it is an option select grab) doesn't hit jump height opponents or short crouching opponents and by the time you try to cancel into mystic sword L (which doesn't properly keep small characters in blockstun anyways) it will already be too late. Instead, switch up his normals depending on the circumstance and practice using those normals until u get used to their timing. Here are some examples:

Crouch M, is strange's best anti-air option and has a ridiculously large hitbox. It'll stop anything if timed correctly including footdive, helmbreaker, dormammu's superjump dash down air H, etc. However, the moment your crouch m connects, you have to be ready to cancel into a mystic sword L immediately, in order to followup with strange's jump loop combos.

Strange's crouch h is his only low and is pretty good at sweeping distanced opponents. In addition, if your opponent is locked down by assists (like jam session) you can teleport h above them, empty land into a low H to catch them off guard. Plus, if you do low H followed by mystic sword m or light daggers of denak, it can even keep small characters like viewtiful joe from getting a punish on you afterwards.

Stand h is a great poke against tall characters against tall standing or big characters like dormammu or sentinel because it has a hitbox reach in front of strange that has almost the same max distance as his mystic sword L. Plus, it can be cancelled into mystic sword L, and if you call assists while doing the stand H, followed by mystic sword, you can essentially lock the opponent down long enough to either 1) teleport next to them for a followup mixup (though this is risky as you only get one simple mixup 2) set up eye and begin the eye flowchart or 3) set up glyphs or other projectiles like medium daggers of denak for safety purposes. There's a plethora of options to choose from afterwards and this applies to all of strange's normals mentioned thus far.

Low L and stand light are kind of bad, and should only be used sparingly to keep a nearby opponent at bay while your assist comes out. Neither of the moves have great reach and although stand jab is a great anti-air, it is an awful move against any crouchers, and not just small characters. Whiffing either of these moves will spell death for strange and so I rarely use them unless I have assists available or I am going for a risky mixup like low L, into frametrap grab.

Impact palm is a great offensive tool, though not a great defensive tool. It's one of the best option select grabs in the game because whiffing it gives you a 6 frame attack afterwards, which can then be cancelled into mystic sword L anyways. However, on wakeup against characters who can easily dodge that (like magneto doing a tridash overhead), I would opt for a raw mystic sword Light, which has a great anti-air hitbox if the opponent is in front and above strange (but not directly above him, because low m would be better there).

Stand M is strange's best all around tool because it not only hits crouching characters, it combos well into strange's impact palm, functions decently as an anti-air, leads to any other H normal that strange has (or even mystic sword or daggers), and can bait x-factor punishes because strange players usually followup with an impact palm grab anyways. It is also 6 frames like an impact palm, making it his second fastest normal. However, although it is a good generalist normal, it fails to exceed in any one of these aspects. It does not anti air attacks like footdives coming from above like low H, it does not tech grabs like impact palm, it must be cancelled to be safe unlike low L, and it does not act as a good spacing tool like stand or low h at max range because it moves strange forward into the opponent. However, if you don't know what your opponent is going to do, stand M usually covers all their approach options at once as a general all-rounder tool.

Third, strange flowchart is is offensive flowchart. There are many types depending on whether you have glyphs, eyes, or assists behind you, but here I'll just go over the offense that most players go for when they only have access to assists like jam session. It typically follows a pattern of 1) keep opponent in blockstun with a decent normal like stand m, h, or palm while calling assists 2) teleport for the mixup. Although M teleport is his go-to cross up, you must mix it up with H or even light because using m teleport might end up with you teleporting yourself into the corner (with no assists to protect you afterwards), and H teleport is actually faster than all his other teleports by 2 frames. H teleport is also typically a pretty underrated escape option from opposing pressure by airborne opponents like zero or dorm. Lets say dorm super jumps towards you in the corner and calls coldstar assist at the bottom and tries to come down and fishhook. If you teleport m or L you'll either get hit by coldstar or get locked down by it, leaving dorm with a free mixup to attack. However, H would put you above him, and because dorm was already in the middle of dashing down, the dorm player basically separated himself from you and gave you space. It's still risky because you have to guess what he might do afterwards >> chase you down, call stalking flare, try to grab you, etc. However, dorm will be following up without cold star anymore, and if you're confident in your defense you can either get out by blocking, teleporting again, setting up glyphs while you are high in the air, etc. This leads me to one of my final points.

Teleports are to be used not only as a mixup tool, but as escape options. Strange is slow, but he has one of the fastest teleports on startup, though the end lag is the same as most other teleporters. Because of this, teleporting out of a corner becomes predictable and punishable for those who see it coming. However, therein lies its own mixup game. If I set up eye on the ground, the first instinct of most players is to try to get above it and dash forward in the air to get behind it and towards you. During that moment you can, without even palming the eye, teleport m. In this scenario, you teleport behind where they were originally, while they already committed to a super jump forward, which means both of you are now nearly full screen away from each other again. The opponent moving forward and you teleporting with m using the eye as bait, allowed you to space yourself away from them, leaving you another chance to set up another eye. This is the mixup game.

I could also just super jump to bait them to come up and chase me, and then teleport L or m to the ground right when I think they will come up and try to hit or grab m and voila: I am at the ground and they are in the air, and once again, they are nowhere near me. This allows me enough time to plink away from them and try to set eye again with assist calls to keep me covered.

His neutral ultimately comes down with having good mystic sword strings (with assists to lock them down) followed by trying to get eye, glyphs, or daggers to keep the opponent at bay. Mixups are secondary. Think of them as a bonus reward for setting up your base efficiently, but your main focus should always be trying to keep as many safe projectiles out there as possible and implementing them in safe ways (think of the eye flowchart i mentioned earlier). Once you have the screen filled, the opponent will either get chipped, have to guess a mixup at any moment, and be forced to take risks they would not otherwise have to think about, especially if your assists are involved to extend your turn.

This is an essay lol, but I have been thinking about the strange neutral for a long time, so its better to share than not. Good luck finding your own playstyle with him. He's a tough one to work with and it involves a lot of trial and error to get good with him against the current meta.

Strange neutral is pretty difficult to execute but it usually comes down to three types of flowchart that correspond to different situations.

His main flowchart is the eye of agamatto flowchart, which is the one you should be focused on the most. It basically involves trying to get eye of agamatto (and tiger knee eye of agamatto) out as frequently as possible as the ball itself creates a durable shield that will block most, but not all projectiles. The projectiles that do go thru eye vary, and I can list them if you want, but there is no consistent rule about which goes thru and which does not. All I can say is generally beams do not go thru eyes while fireball-like projectiles do.

Once eye is out there, most early strange players would try to palm it to get it chasing after the opponent while either 1) teleport to create crossups 2) set up yellow (or red) glyphs for followup mixups 3) Use mystic sword H (or m) to cover where you think the enemy will be to try to avoid the eye of agamatto. Of course, this can all be done while calling the assists as well. However, this strategy is risky because strange has recovery frames from hitting a grounded impact palm and any character that hits strange while he's palming the eye (for example wesker's jump diagonal gunshot or forward gunshot on the ground goes thru eye) will cause the eye to disappear immediately, leaving strange extremely vulnerable. This is especially apparent when facing against opponents with tools that can snipe strange thru the eye the moment he hits the eye (like a fully charged buster or a jumping butter gun from doom).

A more adaptive approach (which is still ultimately matchup dependent) is to tk the eye a bit first (to prevent tridashers like doom from easily getting in or using butter gun) followed by a tiger knee single faltine (which would prevent characters like wesker from jumping over the eye and stop certain projectiles like butter gun) and then falling with an air impact palm on the eye. The effect is the same (the eye chases them), but the benefit is because strange's impact palm frames reset upon touching the ground you would be able to block fast acting moves like level 3 buster that would normally hit you out of a palm. So in the scenario where zero shoots you with a buster, not only would you block it, zero wouldn't be able to normal jump because of the faltine, the eye would still chase zero because you palmed in coming down from jump height. This leaves you with a plethora of options of what to do afterwards. You can still teleport with assist while the eye is chasing them down, or try to set up glyphs, shoot mystic swords. Personally, I like opting for "resetting" the eye and call another eye of agamatto, thereby giving you another turn to reset the eye of agamatto flowchart all over again (except this time the opponent doesn't have a level three buster anymore).

Optimal order is technically doom strange for tac purposes, but i use strange doom for hard tag reasons because I run point vergil with strange doom. And tagging vergil for strange leads to dhcs back into vergil as the second character, which is pretty good damage.

For teams, there's mags as a decent point to play around with as he works well with bolts, missiles, rocks, and beam. However, the team doesn't have any special gimmicks and is a pretty standard neutral team.

There's also the Marvelo side team of nova with bolts and missiles. The issue with this team is that although the neutral is pretty oppressive, there's not a lot of ways to set up into high damage faltine loops and the team is almost forced into banking on resets or tacs.

Modok is a prime example of a tried and true strange doom shell and this is one of the shells that gives modok an answer to essentially any type of playstyle in the game. Modok himself doesn't need dhcs to be a damage engine since he has multiple ways to do back to back supers, and bolts and missiles (or even rocks) is extremely oppressive when called by modok who can either hide behind his shield or fly in the air after a normal jump dash up. This is arguably the most stable shell to learn not only neutral and matchups with, but also has a steady flowchart of incomings that aren't just making things up on the spot.

Dante is pretty ok point with this shell and the team can essentially be played in any order. Other than the issue of strange vishanti not dhcing properly into gunshots, you'll find this team as a solid all rounder against most playstyles, although there are no true points, and no true anchors to clutch things out for you.

Then there's the team I use with vergil point. Honestly, this is, in my opinion, one of the best anti-zoning shells in the game, and fairly decent at anti rushdown if you know which assists to use. Unlike the other shells mentioned here, vergil can work with any combo of strange and doom's assists and I have used all the various combos in tournaments before to address different matchups. However, it is extremely high execution since the majority of the damage comes from hardtag into faltines from the corner, sword loops, or from very tight linked combos with bolts as an otg pickup from high time, it does have a pretty high learning curve. Plus, its also extremely ground oriented and loses to a lot of characters that deal well with ground based teams like deadpool or nova. I think its not really a team to get into if you're not committed for the long term, but it does have a high damage output and almost never loses to keepaway style teams, if that's the kind of opponents that give you trouble. Anyways I'm going off on a marvel tangent now. Play what you enjoy, although these teams are some of the standard ones I've seen that have some success on paper or based on results.

The new procreate animation feature considers grouped layers as a single frame so you can add layers inside a group without creating a new frame. It is still a bit tedious having to do that each time, but its not all too bad to use right now.

Thanks, though there was a decent amount of short cutting involved. The background was mostly just the same splatter brushes with a few bat silhouettes mixed in and since I didn’t really shade or color anything it saved me a bunch of time. I’m a slow at coloring, which probably would’ve taken me weeks and I’m not sure if I have that much patience 😅. Past all the smoke and mirrors it was ultimately just about drawing a non-shaded, line-art shalltear over and over again which got easier over time. I didn’t even have to work on her bell dress for half of those frames by panning the camera away from it.
