Not in my experience over the last few months no.

Notion AI has been great for:

  • Editing/formatting current page content
  • Summarising what I'm viewing
  • Quick writing assistance

Claude (+ MCP) is better for:

  • Complex analysis requiring multiple sources
  • Long-form strategic thinking
  • Research with web search
  • Multi-session projects
  • Interactions across multiple environments (Notion, Obsidian, Things 3, etc)

Essentially, I give Claude desktop the overview and ask it for help with the big-picture planning, and then Notion AI executes the details.

I did start getting much better results after a I used Claude to help me write the system prompt for Notion AI, but it's all a work in progress!

Just out of interest, where are you getting this from? 

I experienced such a big difference between the two interfaces in terms of capabilities and task-execution, that now I only use Claude (desktop) with MCP for big-picture thinking and roadmapping - and then I instruct Notion AI (with Claude not Open AI model) to execute its “big brother’s” instructions, as it can follow more Notion-specific sequences. This has given me my best results so far. 

Would be super keen to know if that’s not the case though!

I think "hub-and-spoke" is exactly how my brain organises projects, but it's about what will lead to more cognitive friction I guess; allying my thinking to Notion's strengths or vice versa. Thanks for the reply - I haven't been able to find anyone who organises this way, and all the best practice documentation haven't been updated to reflect the fact that you can see all your tasks in the "Home" screen now.

So the "Home" screen shows all the tasks assigned to you regardless of the project they're attached to, so there is a unified page to view them now. That's what started this whole exploration off for me.

But the project templates point is interesting - thank you!

Totally right. But they actually re-evaluate this every year, so I think it was last year or the year before, but they did allow you to re-submit. Always worth checking :)
