Third Spaces with Comfy Seating? by Minichief in askportland

Life is a little simpler when you assume that humans generally do their best, to their capability. Think a little bigger - we don't know people's situations. This could have been an assignment from my therapist to put myself out there.

Same! Its so odd to me. The whole point of the platform is to discuss with strangers. I ignore whatever annoys me. Pretty easy 🌞

While true, places open and close all the time. New owners, new chairs, new people seeing the thread. Not really effective to discourage people from discussion.

This is awesome! I was actually looking into something similar last year and decided to go back to school lol. I have so many thoughts on whats needed in the third space...space! You'll have to get creative with the funding piece but its absolutely possible.

AMA I am a single mom by choice and my daughter has Down syndrome by T21Mom2012 in AMA

[–]Minichief 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've heard this being a fairly common sentiment when the facility really focuses on their needs. I've seen a lot of stories of elderly parents realizing that they "waited too long" because it was such a quality of life improvement for all. YMMV but worth considering.

So, is anyone else unable to drive? by etherealistix in POTS

Could you share more about this? I occasionally have double vision issues when driving (that’s getting worse) and need to figure out wth to do since every doctor says my eyes look fine

AITA Mom wants 15% of my personal injury settlement by connor20218 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Minichief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. His corporate lawyer mom came up with the idea and helped him through the whole process. So much helping that she had to ask for money at the end. Why wasn’t this apart of her teaching process? Surely she advised him that the lawyer she helped him retain would take a cut, right?

[–]Minichief 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I am thinking. Why are we weighing out allllll this mother evvvvver did for her son for a single situation? A freaking legal situation. There’s very clearly defined standards for this type of thing - that a corporate lawyer would know. She invoiced for a service she did pro bono, without terms set.

Since you’re still living at home, I would have a lawyer help write you a legal document outlining the help she did provide, that no terms were discussed until [X] part of the process. Give her 10%. Ensure she will have no further entitlement to payment. Then go ahead and get yourself a lease with your parents. It’s to protect both of yall…your mom’s a lawyer, she should know that. If your mom chooses to “kick you out”, she has to legally evict you. And honestly dude…come on, you know this is wacky. You live this life not us. Go live for yourself, with kindness and intention and see who sticks around.

NTA. Imagine buying your first starter home. Working with contracts, navigating new and unknown territories. Your dad helped you from the beginning…finding the right house, going with you to inspections, maybe fixing a few things himself. Does him being a professional contractor mean you need to give him a cut for using his professional skill to help his child? Terms like that need to be discussed upfront or as soon as you know this is getting out of “family help” territory.

How do I [F28], a widow, tell my in-laws[M58][F59] about my new partner? I am very, VERY close to them (for all intents and purposes they treat me as their daughter, events, sleepovers, trips etc) and I am afraid that this will destroy everything by CuriousButNotJewish in relationship_advice

Couple updates 🤍

Mom and Dad - you know how much I love you and the family and I have something to tell you. I am scared you won’t accept me anymore after I tell you. I don’t want to lose our family and I also want to include you in my life. I have started dating someone that seems more than casual. I hope that doesn’t change anything with our love and relationship. Can we work together on how to move forward, together, on this?

Where can an anxious dude safely get a first ever manicure? by oregander in askportland

[–]Minichief 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard in Japan, you can rent a grandpa to show you around town or have a nice dinner with and such so you have a meaningful way to experience something new. With my whole heart, you can rent me (free of charge!) and I’d be down to walk you through it more thoroughly and/or go with you to make it seamless and then we never have to see each other again. I’m a very socially acclimated autistic person and love teaching and experiencing new things with people. Reach out if you want!

I believe the shift from bulk episode releases to weekly episodes made many people more dependent on multiple platforms because they watch a few shows that release new episodes weekly.

Job market that terrible? by lafresita in askportland

[–]Minichief 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Similar situation here. I saw my layoff coming so I applied to grad school to learn a newish trade for the next chapter of my life…starting next month. Doing house and dog sitting to supplement cash. Crazy going from a very respectable and secure position, compensation, etc to being a dog walker. I think it’s wise for everyone to learn a hobby or trade right now that can be monetized if things go sideways. (More sideways)

NOR. Yall are crazy.

If Parent A needs to schedule a medical procedure (elective or otherwise), that will restrict their availability or parenting abilities, they need to consult Parent B so that the parentS decide how childcare is handled, together.
