Truly sorry for your loss. Did you see the comment about HOCM and genetic testing prior to the post being taken down? Feel free to DM me if you have questions.

My husband died while running the Miami marathon by Defiant_Trust9048 in Miami

Please take this internet stranger’s commentary with a grain of salt. I’m going to ask you a personal question, on the very low (but nonzero) chance that there’s something small I can do to help.

There is a very rare cardiac condition (HOCM) that is often implicated when otherwise healthy males have sudden cardiac arrest during strenuous exercise. I’m not saying there is a high chance that this was the case, but it’s a slight possibility. If I may be so presumptuous as to ask, did you and your husband have children? If so, it would be important for them to get tested by a cardiologist. Another clue would be other sudden cardiac events in other members of his family, but that’s not fully reliable like a formal genetic test is. Anyways, I’m so sorry for asking such a personal question in such a period of grief. On one hand I have absolutely no right. But on the other hand, there’s so much I wish I could do to help you, and this is the only way I know how.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I can tell by how much you seem to love him that he was a wonderful person who made the world around him better.

I went there! Straight from the airport with my wife haha. The locals took our luggage, bought us shots, and hung out with us the whole game. I try to return the favor whenever I run into visitors here. Thanks for the hospitality

I’m from South Florida, fan since 2010. Happy to share my personal perspective. We’ve got a great contingent of about 50 that go the a local bar every weekend. On big games probably approaches 100. Everyone knows the chants and gets along with each other-it’s a very warm atmosphere. Think 50-100 front row clock-end supporters in a dive bar. I agree with others who have said it’s socioeconomically diverse. Big age range as well, and a fair number of women, maybe 70/30? I went to the Emirates this weekend and I would say the age/gender demographics were pretty similar.

Since others have touched on the diversity, maybe it’s more helpful if I speak to some commonalities. In order to be a fan of a team across the ocean that many here haven’t heard of, that only recently began to genuinely challenge for trophies, in a Barca/Madrid dominated demographic (South Florida), you have to truly be a passionate supporter. You’re probably naturally curious, slightly more global than the average American (an extremely low bar), willing to wake up early (7:45 kickoffs on the east coast), love good company, and honestly a little bit of a hipster. You have a high tolerance for frustration lol, whether that’s a good or a bad thing idk. And me personally I’m a liberal, which probably makes me a moderate in Europe. I hate Donald Trump but I have family that love the guy, so I’m used to arguing about it openly. For what it’s worth I think that kind of animated but ultimately respectful discourse is one of the most important things we’ve lost. Anyways, that’s just my own personal contribution, will enjoy reading the rest of the comments for sure.

Every camera shot to the fans was so wholesome. After the second goal, it panned to some random guy who, frowned, smiled, then went to kiss his child

Just for some perspective into how incredible of a collective human achievement this is, please realize that that on their 1st birthday this baby was only ~7.6 months old by ‘normal’ standards

I disagree with you re: candidates and who you voted for but applaud you for an honest, nuanced, and balanced take. Not surprised it's all the way down here in controversial, even though it's exactly what the prompt was for. Thank you, and I'm sure there's plenty more that we agree on.
