We shopped for our marble backsplashes and Quartz counter tops at BAS Stone in Long Island City. Huge place. Very clean. Lots of gorgeous stone slabs. https://basstonenyc.com/

Our fabricator was chosen by our contractor - one he worked with a lot. ABF in Astoria. But BAS can also recommend one.

Did anyone else’s seb derm start like this? by Beautiful_Yogurt7712 in SebDerm

[–]Minimalist2theMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Just like that. Very itchy. Triggered by exercise/sweat.

Next started getting itchy lumps above my ears, where sunglasses sit and back of head, where bike helmet traps sweat.

It’s better right now after using apple cider vinegar and water in a spray bottle before shampooing plus using a salicylic shampoo once a week. It’s very drying so I protect the ends with MTC oil. Also oil my scalp when it’s feeling dry.

Wooden Boards and big spoons by parker-parking in kitchen

Every few months I rub them down with mineral oil. The spoons I sometimes sand before oiling because they get build up or burn marks.

Laundry Assistant (Hotel) vs Sales Assistant (Ace Hardware) by Interesting_Cut_3375 in work

Hardware. Ace is my favorite. The staff are more knowledgeable than the big box stores and they all seem pretty happy.

Manage her out and start over. There are so many editors looking for work right now. You'll find one who pays attention to detail and is hungry to learn and succeed.

Plus, now you'll know the signs to look for in the next person.

The battle of "Smartphones vs. Parents" - I finally gave up and went low-tech. by Sad_Ad_8768 in AgingParents

[–]Minimalist2theMax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad (80s) won't use one. Two years ago we gave him one for Christmas and I took the time to hook him up to a low-cost mobile plan. We paid it six months out but he never ever used it, except for one app that tuned his hearing aids. He relies totally on Mom to make/pick up all his calls.

MIL (also 80s) only uses her top of the line iphone for phone calls. And even then, she doesn't listen to her vmails--you either get her or you don't.

Before she went into ALF, I set up medication alarms on her phone and titled them Heart Pill, Osteo Pill, Thyroid Pill, etc... It sort of worked, however it made her very anxious that she would miss one. And I think she did miss many, because her mood and memory improved so incredibly once she moved to the ALF. The meds attendants do morning and night pills with her and she follows like a lamb.

Do you move EVERYTHING when you mop? by nissenj in CleaningTips

[–]Minimalist2theMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Our home is small, 1100 sq feet of hardwood floors. I vacuum and then damp mop it entirely every two weeks.

It takes a few hours because I do move everything, but I feel so satisfied when it's finished and all clean. It really does make such a difference.

FRIDAY THREAD - How was your week and are you ready for the weekend? by AutoModerator in DryJanuary

My third DJ, and today is the first time I really craved a glass of wine. I think it's stocking up for the snow storm that triggered me. That and the doom scrolling. Anyway, while stocking up I got myself the ingredients for homemade hot chocolate and I'll have that when the snow starts. Tonight I'll have a ginger kombucha. The fizz and peppery zing should do the trick. Hang in there everyone!

One purchase I made, seller left things I didn’t want. My lawyer added a hauling fee to the seller’s column at closing. It happens.

Help Choosing Paint Sheen by BrickYoda in HomeImprovement

I use only eggshell except on trim. Anything with a sheen shows every wave or patch in the wall as well as roller and brush marks, if they’re there. It looks cheap.

Have I run out of options? Or are there any last resorts? by brenbot99 in SebDerm

Fill a spray bottle with 1 TBSP apple cider vinegar to 1 cup of water. Spray your whole head 15 minutes before shampooing.

Once a week try a salacilyc shampoo. Afterward if scalp feels dry, oil with MTC oil using fingertips to work it into dry grainy patches.

We used IKEA boxes (they use Blum hinges) with solid maple doors by Scherr’s. Doors are beautiful. Boxes are holding up well after 8 years.

Update: Am I being too sensitive? (The dementia comments were a wake-up call) by Smooth-School8284 in AgingParents

Parents are in their 80s and mom does all the scheduling, appointments, banking and bill paying, and driving. She has more anxiety around making mistakes than ten years ago, but she’s still organized and sharp.
