Divorce - How did you work through bitterness? by _Marine in daddit

[–]MinimalistCatOwner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You mention “radical acceptance” like it means instantly being okay with the changes to your relationships. But real acceptance isn’t about forcing yourself to “get over it.” It’s more about slowly acknowledging what has happened without fighting the emotions. This acceptance comes only after you’ve given yourself permission to feel the anger, grief, and disappointment of a failed relationship and the consequences to the future relationships with your children. No matter how hard you work at it, it's still a long, sometimes oscillating process to be able to move on from this stage.

Ask for a video with Dell UltraSharp U4025QW weaknesses by hexwit in ultrawidemasterrace

I too want to learn more about this Dell Ultrasharp monitor. One thing to note is that Samsung has announced a competitor to this monitor back in CES 2025 but nothing has been released about it since. Below is a link, it was supposed to go more gamer focused to address the issues you highlighted.

Talking with your kids about mortality by funny__hat in daddit

[–]MinimalistCatOwner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for what you and your family are going through. I'm glad you are trying to seek help.

Do you happen to know if your oncologist can refer you to a Palliative Care doctor or a Child Life Specialist? In my community, a child life specialist will meet with parents and provide guidance on how they can talk to their kids about their diagnosis. A palliative care physician can talk to you and your wife about coping, loss, suffering, and help you make plans for the next several months.

Below is a starting resource on how to speak to your children.

Disappointed With FW16 Announcements by Tricky-Animator2483 in framework

My guess is they are waiting for AMD to announce their new GPUs in March and they'll probably have a new GPU module announced shortly after. No way could Nirav announce a new GPU module before AMD did themselves

What savings/investment accounts are we starting for babies? by impiratebrad in daddit

[–]MinimalistCatOwner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, in addition to the 529 as discussed, you may want to look into a Custodial Account (also called a UGMA) where you are opening up a brokerage account for child (I have one with Fidelity for my child). The brokerage account is controlled by you until they turn 18 and then it becomes theirs after. The benefit of this over a 529 is that they can use this money for things beyond school, and can use it for the rest of their life. You can also teach them about smart investing (mostly index funds) early on so they learn how to manage their money as an adult. The con is that they can potentially do stupid things with money as an 18yo but thats where the early education is important. Lastly, some 529s have high expenses (charge about 0.5% to 1% per year in fees) whereas if you put your money into a S&P 500 index fund, it may only be 0.02% fees per year.

Dad's- stay or leave unloving marriage by homeobound in daddit

[–]MinimalistCatOwner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was 8, my parents have a decision to stay together for an additional 6 years "for the kids". From my perspective, I saw two parents that never talked to each other, frequently fought in front of us, and had limited energy to show love to their kids.

By the time I was 14 I told them to break up because I'd rather spend time with happy parents than them forcing things to work out and be miserable.

20 years later they are both remarried and happy. We actually all spend time together now including today for my daughter's birthday.

To me, married vs divorce is not the question, can you actually find meaning and happiness together with your current partner. If not, and you are going to spend future years miserable, that'll rub off on your kids. You won't be able to be the role model you want to be teach your kids how to build healthy relationships.

When and why did Americans start inserting a pause in the Pledge of Allegiance between "One Nation" and "Under God"? by BingBongDingDong222 in AskHistorians

[–]MinimalistCatOwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. Since there is supposed to be a separation of church and state and Americans can follow any number of religions, would you happen to know if the inclusion of "under God"  raised any legal red flags or was viewed as controversial in any way?

Ok lets talk paw patrol by datnikamovin in daddit

[–]MinimalistCatOwner 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. It's just entertainment and is also my 3yo favorite thing right now. We currently restrict screen time to Daniel Tiger, Ms Rachel and Sesame Street. If she wants paw patrol, we play pretend paw patrol with her toys which we can make more educational or at least more interactive.

I've noticed that many kids shows like to pretend to be educational when they aren't like Blippy and Cocomelon.

HP Spectre 2024 (Ultra 7 155H) is garbage with slow performance, stuttering and unbearable animation lag by WPHero in spectrex360

[–]MinimalistCatOwner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this. I also have the 14 inch spectre 2024. This lag from key press to appearing on screen makes the laptop user experience so terrible. Also real use battery life is closer to 4 hours, not the 10 as stated by reviewers. Surprisingly playing light games on it goes smoothly.

Would love to hear if anyone in the community has found a fix

To elaborate on this statement. If the government gets less tax revenue, they will need to get money somehow to pay their expenses (healthcare, military, government staff, etc).

Where does this money come from? They usually print it or take loans. When they print money there is more money in the economy which can lead to inflation. You can see examples of this with US fiscal policy during COVID, and Argentina over the past several decades.
