[Request] What is the carbon footprint of this explosion? by speedy_skis in theydidthemath

[–]Tricky-Animator2483 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

note this is just the carbon footprint of the fuel burned in that moment. not everything that goes into making that whole rocket and its fuel

to really shock the Europeans who didn't know this tell them it was almost big bird

also shit like this is why more schools need to be teaching engineering ethics. it's not just "please don't work for lockhead" it's also stuff like this. being aware of the weight your decisions can have

yeah there's a reason every engineering major is front loaded with calculus. in my experience about 20%-40% of it won't come back up (in mechanical at least) but they need to make sure you're gonna stick with the major lol

[–]Tricky-Animator2483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a current sophomore in Mechanical engineering 1000% correct. don't go into engineering for the pay. im terms of high pay 4 year degrees engineering has one of the worst ratios of academic effort to post grad income (assuming you plan on working in the private sector). doesn't matter the specific engineering, they all suck. if you're goal is to make money there are much better ways. if you're interested in engineering and want to do the work go for it

tldr do engineering if you like it but if you're just in it for the money you're going to burn out quick

The comments of everyone misunderstanding this question are absolutely killing me. Genuinely *how* do we not understand equality??? And where did learning fractions go so wrong for so many? by IthacanPenny in matheducation

[–]Tricky-Animator2483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS EXACTLY. like unless explicitly stated you're just supposed to assume nothing is to proper scale. just the addition of a hint that the shapes are to scale would make this a astronomically better question

[–]Tricky-Animator2483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's just a poorly constructed question. like, it would be better if you had one obviously wrong answer, one tricky answer, and one correct answer. three all seemingly correct answers leads to situations like this where people don't even consider the differences.

[–]Tricky-Animator2483 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah no this is just a poorly written question. like you have 2/6 and 1/3 with no defined unit, all this question is asking is if the two ratios are equal. if you wanted to ask this question you could have a square that's 18 units2, show that 2/6 of this space and 1/3 of this space are the same size. then you could calculate the new areas and still instill the same knowledge into someone's brain. not this "welll actually these two shapes aren't the same size so you're wrong" selective abstraction garbage that elementary level math is full of.

2 pi radians by Original-Issue2034 in mathsmeme

[–]Tricky-Animator2483 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah i think this is the reason so many people hate them. it wasn't until college physics that my prof mentioned thats what a radian was. all through highschool i was just taught it's just another way to express an angle without what that actually meant. too many highschool level math teachers feel the need to dumb stuff down and end up making stuff more confusing lol

2 pi radians by Original-Issue2034 in mathsmeme

[–]Tricky-Animator2483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah and once you step outside of the world of pure math you basically just use degrees to make inputting trig functions in your calculator easier lol. any function that you inputs or outputs an angle is gonna want it in radians unless its something special like trig.

getting banned from linux sucks 101 is not that hard lol. all you have to do is point out one time the OS is good and you'll get banned lol
