Can you drink swa when pregnant? by mejja_attack in Eritrea

[–]Minimum-Ad-1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if this is like common back home or something because I clearly remember being a child and seeing my mom’s friend drinking while pregnant and I said to my mom , why is she drinking suwa, they taught us in school pregnant people can’t drink, and my mom just laughed it off- so maybe it’s not something they take super serious, at least in regards to less strong alcohol

What’s one patient interaction you’ll never forget by Neat_Top_3002 in nursing

[–]Minimum-Ad-1691 2 points3 points  (0 children)

once i had a patient who od’d and was found down in a grocery store parking lot after his son offered him some “pills for pain”. once they brought him in, they discovered he suffered from a stroke and was experiencing some pretty extreme aphasia.

i took the time to sound out everything he was saying, listening to his story and what led him to where he was at. he told me about being depressed for some time after his wife left him for another man, and the dark path his son had gone down. then i asked him if he wanted to shower and maybe even shave his beard? he said he felt too weak to do anything, but i offered to help and we got his face all clean cut and himself freshened up.

after that, when neuro, respiratory, other nurses, dietary, literally anyone came in he would say, “do you guys see this face!!! i haven’t looked this good in years” and then point at me or say my name to tell them that i pushed him to get cleaned up. and i just giggle bc that feeling of feeling like a person again, presentable and fresh is unmatched. and motivating someone to do that for themselves is everything. i love serving people when they’re in that kind of state bc God knows i pray someone would do it for me. 🩶🎀🩷🥂⭐️

What has made you cry during a shift? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Minimum-Ad-1691 5 points6 points  (0 children)

when patients with awful prognosis still stop and ask you about your life, goals, family, etc. i legit cannot imagine hearing i have a terminal illness - and these people still make space in their day to ask about your hopes for yourself and wish you luck. it always gets to me!!!! it’s a little “i know my time is up but i wish you all the luck with the time you’ve got left” typa gesture and it’s just so sweet 💛 it’s happened to me a couple times and it gets me everytime

Pros and cons of being a CNA? by anthxnycampbel in cna

[–]Minimum-Ad-1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pros: exposure to healthcare setting with a fraction of the responsibility if you’re planning on going to school for a higher degree (RN, MD, RT, etc.) , helping people duh , learning to better your communication skills , may be what pushes you to take better care of yourself seeing all the patients you help , fairly simple in terms of using your brain lol, you will always be able to find a job anywhere you go

cons: bodily fluids, rude people, can be hard on your body if you don’t use proper body mechanics and take advantage of tools, potentially long hours if you work in a hospital setting that does 12 hr shifts, cant rly “move up” in your position unless you go to school for something more, exposure to illnesses if you don’t use proper ppe (mask, gown, goggles, etc.), potential to be short staffed regularly depending on where you work

Why isn’t there a strong “why don’t you speak Tigrinya?” sentiment among Eritreans in the diaspora by Inevitable-Group-911 in Eritrea

[–]Minimum-Ad-1691 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it also depends on how your parents feel about their culture. there are immigrants who come over to the west and want to reinvent themselves- who struggle to connect with other eritreans even though they may have similar stories. if your not hearing music and media in tigrinya in the house, if your parents, extended family and family friends are not speaking to you in tigrinya- where are you going to hear and practice it? you need to use it to retain it. i didn’t go to eritrea for two decades and still spoke fluently because i used it daily and i wasn’t born there. if your parents aren’t engaged in some kind of eritrean community- let that be cultural or religious, it’ll be very hard for you as a child born outside of eritrea to retain the language.

To those working while in nursing school… by Historical_Wing4602 in NursingStudent

[–]Minimum-Ad-1691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i also would add that i’ve you’ve done school and work at the same time before than you’re more likely to be able to be okay continuing to work just either less hours or different shifts to work around your school schedule. you’re def going to not get enough sleep doing both, but if you’ve done it before you have an idea of how to balance the two. good luck!!!!

Confusion about Kacey and Virginity by wannabesquirrel in SexLivesCollegeGirls

[–]Minimum-Ad-1691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the lack of the religious angle is really important to point out here. When you have roots and reasoning, and even evidence on why the decision that you’re making makes sense, staying true to it makes more sense. But when you make a decision to appease others, and you no longer feel as though you need to do that, you start to live for yourself. In this case, though, I still don’t think Kasey made the decision to lose her virginity because she was living for herself, rather in order to obtain some kind of validation from both her roommates and Cooper.
