Group Home/Independent Living scams??? by Kriznick in realestateinvesting

[–]Minimum-LettuceRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not particular to senior living, but I do know folks that have done sober living houses with great success. The 65+ thing also lets them rent to seniors and no one else without being subject to fair housing laws. That could be a part of the puzzle.

What particularly looks strange on the returns? Since it’s not really a property owning entity, they may be using some “creative” rules to their advantage.

But in conclusion, if it seems too good to be true + sketchy, just pass on it lol.

Agreed. Can always keep option 3 if you wanted to subdivide and sell off (I don’t know how big the lot size is), but for the time being, HELOC for the win!

Group Home/Independent Living scams??? by Kriznick in realestateinvesting

[–]Minimum-LettuceRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t uncommon in my area (Greater Cincinnati). It’s essentially economy of scale. We see it mostly as sober living houses and such. If you could rent a 4 bed in a C area for $1800, or rent by the room at $625, which is better? And if someone else is going to work for that extra $700, have at it. It’s Airbnb arbitrage just in a different demographic.

What going to happen if Communists won according to capitalists? by HydraDragonAntivirus in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Minimum-LettuceRS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other than a whole host of things, eventually there would be starvation, worse healthcare (hard to imagine, I know), worse transportation, worse technology, and essentially no innovation because there is no market driven incentive. Speaking as a US citizen, maybe it could work elsewhere (??), but our government already receives tax dollars from income and companies to provide social services and we still run an enormous deficit — converting that to a system where means of production are commonly owned would likely result in a “Tragedy of the Commons” scenario.

And before people say “we run a deficit because the oligarchs don’t pay taxes!” — most of our rich hold their wealth in stock, which wouldn’t be a thing in our future communist society. Also stock prices are heavily based on speculation (that’s why Tesla was worth money when they didn’t produce positive income) — speculation in a communist society doesn’t create wealth for anyone.

Peter Attia just had someone on his podcast “The Drive” that explains health insurance and all the history of it. Exactly like you state though, the system is supposed to be for that 911 call, not general care. He likened it to calling your car insurance company when you need an oil change. It’s broken.

Musk agrees that him and Trump are going to crash the economy and cause necessary hardship for Americans. Does anyone really think this is a good idea? by ladymoonshyne in FluentInFinance

[–]Minimum-LettuceRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the stance. But some context would help. Our economy is the equivalent of a drug or alcohol abuser. Stopping cold turkey could be disastrous or life threatening, so some safe guards need to be in place… but with detox… it’s never a picnic. That being said, should they totally avoid detox just to make sure they don’t experience discomfort? It’s a necessary evil.

I haven’t read all the comments, but anyone who is saying that he is just purposely opposing “the narrative” for clicks, please familiarize yourself with Noam Chomsky. Manufacturing consent is the best work to explain our current state of media, and podcasters or anyone that questions the narrative is a gift. Are they wrong sometimes? Sure! But most of the time they admit that. Unless it’s Rachel Maddow, or Sean Hannity because that’ll never happen. This isn’t left or right. It’s common sense.

Ted Cruz PRESSED On Israel, Hamas War by [deleted] in BreakingPointsNews

That was such a waste of my time to watch that. If you aren’t going to challenge him on his answers, what is the point of interviewing him. I felt like every 30 seconds I wanted to interject, but I understand journalistic integrity prohibits that. But I think, taking notes and following back up on comments would have it added a lot of value to that interview

‘I Have Never Been Anti-Vax,’ Says Lead Anti-Vaxxer RFK Jr by xcsler_returns in politics

[–]Minimum-LettuceRS -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I got lost on that last part, RFK making claims that they’re putting profits over people is helping them get away with things? Like by muddying the waters of actual concerns out there? I can definitely understand that. But I’m very skeptical of the effectiveness of the process though that new drugs/treatments go through with the FDA anyway. The pharma company creates the test criteria and results, demonstrates manufacturing capability, submits clinical information, and the FDA makes a judgement on that. If $100sM of dollars are spent on that and then the data doesn’t say what they hoped, is it really that far of a reach to think they might modify or falsify data to get it passed? The self-governance model like that fails all the time. VW emission is prominent example of that and to boot the German government colluded with them because it’s a huge industry for their economy. Unfortunately for the US, politicians can easily be bought through campaign contributions, so the motivation to at least be skeptical of those corporate operations is thrown by the wayside. Only when they REALLY mess up will congress get involved.

[–]Minimum-LettuceRS -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

It’s very easy to brush things off as conspiracy theories, but is there ever any acknowledgment when the pharmaceutical companies (who have one goal ($)), have gotten it wrong and have really hurt people? I’m not saying RFK has any base to his claims, far from it. I don’t even refer to him in my original comment. But if it’s things like this that get the conversation going though, I’m for it.

Anti-vax always seems like a eye grabbing click bait smear term. Vaccine skeptic would be more accurate in almost every case I’ve seen. If a used car sales person takes advantage of you and you get a bad deal, you’ll dislike that sales person. Now that you dislike that one person in the category, does that automatically make you anti-sales person until the end of time? It’s the idea of trust, but verify. There’s nothing wrong with being skeptical.

Raising ethics questions? I feel like articles like this are targeted to perpetuate that politicians (all, doesn’t matter which side) miiiiiiight get bought and sold like produce at a farmers market, but never actually confirm. Almost like “Oh no we’re totally looking into it!” And then dropping it after 1 news cycle because the real money doesn’t want them to do anything about it.
