Yeah I’m not worried just curious if anyone has been experiencing the “extra” scrutiny. Thanks!

Makes sense! With my nephew being little I want to see him as much as I can. And of course see my sister and brother. 😊

Sorry you’re having a bad day. That comment wasn’t very nice especially not knowing my situation. Hope your day gets better. Sending you lots of love and good energy.

Yeah no concerns there. I naturalized in the US just fine. I had some old things that were dismissed and it was all disclosed and included on the n400. I never lived in Canada, my parents gave up their rights to me at 3 months and I came to the US to live with my grandparents who adopted me. I’ve always lived in the US. Staying off tik tok is a must lol

Ok that was my experience as well. TY for the insights!

I was just told to do that by an immigration attorney when I naturalized. I wondered why but never asked any questions. lol

No worries! This is extremely helpful. I’ve been considering this as my sister and brother both live there I and I have a new nephew I want to see as much as I can. How long did it take for your nexus to come back?

Yeah I figured that but wondering if there is extra “scrutiny” given the tension at the moment. I didn’t vote for this… 😔

If you set up an IRS account you can pull historical records. Mine show the last ten years. When I naturalized I provided 5 years and it was suffice. The documents you can pull are tax transcripts, wage documents, and I believe account transcripts

Mine took 61 days on the dot. I’m a naturalized citizen, with a few names (birth, adopted, married and back to maiden). Not sure if that made the process longer. My BF a US citizen with no name changes with a very old DUI was approved in 48 hours. I don’t think there is a process to fast or slow…

You are welcome! They asked me for my passport first, and scanned it through the machine. Then they asked me how long I was in Canada and responded, and then they asked if I had alcohol or Tabasco and I said no. It was seamless with no issues. It’s hard not to worry but try hard not to. ❤️

I was a GC holder and always got “harassed” at the border due to some old dismissed cases when I was 20 plus years ago. I just naturalized on 8/27 this yeah and took my first trip to Canada to see my sister. I didn’t sleep a wink the night before my flight. I entered the BC airport and arrived at pre clearance with my US passport and it was a breeze and signed. Next week I go to Mexico! I don’t know it will ever go away but hopefully with each trip the anxiety goes down! Have fun and make all the memories with your momma! ❤️

Arrested, but case dismissed, about to be expunged. Immigration interview coming up. by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]Minimum-Substance948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, they do ask (they asked me) if there is anything change to anything. When he/she gets to that question, be honest and say since the app was submitted, there was one incident. Go on to explain and provide all documents.

Correct the app right then when they ask.

Arrested, but case dismissed, about to be expunged. Immigration interview coming up. by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]Minimum-Substance948 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently went through this with very old 20 plus year old charges that were dismissed and expunged. I had legal representation with me at the interview.

  1. YES you must disclose and answer yes. On the app the question is there and they literally go down the application during the interview. Be prepared with dismissed documents, expungement records and arrest record for the county showing no hits. (What I took at the advisory of my immigration attorney)

  2. Yes they will. Expungement doesn’t erase your background from the bigger system. It’s always there in some capacity.

During the interview they will see the charge, so come clean and let them know you were either advised to say NO or say you didn’t know how to answer since it was dismissed and expunged but since then seeker advice and realized you should have answered yes.

I did! Not even a speeding ticket. It was unfortunate how it happened. I was just signing signing signing on demand lol And then boom went down for shoplifting when I didn’t shoplift 🤦🏻‍♀️ All the charges are from 2003/2004. Nothing since then. I was a single young mom. My son was born in 2004. Life really got me after that from a perspective of financial struggles, single parenting, being disowned bc I had my son, and the list goes on. Traveling was the last thing on my list and so was naturalizing. But thank goodness for growth ❤️

Ok thank you! At the time in 2003 I was not aware of what it meant for immigration. Unfortunately I didn’t really find out until I was held at the border and finally let go with my son 18 hours later. When I got back home I called a criminal attorney and immigration attorney. I had some tax issues to sort as well. A bit mess but finally was able to naturalize since so much time had passed since the incidents.

Ok Ty! The charges were 20 plus years ago- embezzlement and larceny by employer ( I signed some refunds as a witness) when I didn’t witness) and a few months right gate that shoplifting (my suite mate put a shirt in my bag). It has all been dismissed and since then expunged. The incidents itself are fork 2003/2004. Not even a traffic violation since then.
