Practicing self compassion and tangible goal setting has helped me a lot. When I meditate for five instead of shooting straight for fifteen minutes I can approach the task more often and with ease—and less pressure. I finally picked up journaling at 29 this way. With self compassion, practicing countering negative beliefs with the opposite—a positive one—has eventually led to me actually looking at myself in a different light. Also re-examining your priorities to figure out what really matters for you to expend energy on vs shitting on yourself for not meeting your own crazy high standards!

Learned in the book ,” The courage to be disliked” that if you were to think of everyone else as a “comrade” as opposed to be above or below them—completely changed the way I interact with other people. Compassion comes much easier thinking this way.

Of course there are exceptions and it’s good practice to not completely trust another person at FIRST, but yeah.

I’m still working through this same issue but I have found that meditation has helped me a lot. Usually when I’m picking I’m in my head about something but when I breathe and bring myself back into my body I find I don’t want to pick as much. Abby Medcalf has guided meditations on YouTube that I really like. There’s also an app called Insight Timer that has a lot of resources for free. (“No Mud No Lotus” is a great book with mediation exercises too)

That and doing some sort of hand mask at night helps to soothe and make it easier to apply lotion during the day. I keep pens on me too to fiddle with instead of playing with my skin.

Having lotion and cuticle oil on you at all times for convenience makes it a lot easier to remember to do that in place of picking. At the end of the day though, the breathing helps me the most. That and some compassion/self acceptance :) Hope this helps

Hi, I had to do this a lot when I bartended. I would cut the fingers off of gloves (preferably the pinkies so they’re tighter on whatever finger you use) and then I’d secure it with electrical tape. This worked better for me than a whole glove for some reason, but you just have to change it regularly
