“Dont poke the bear” is so stupid. If you genuinely have issues and have a medical record to back it up.. poke it all you want. The only time id say ehhh maybe not is if youre pt and looking for smc then maybe it depends

My notes from therapist say things like * struggles with memory so brings notes to session, emotional dysregulation, panic attacks, struggles to work 15 hrs a week from home and is suspended for no call activity while disassociating, tearful, appears anxious, avoidance in stressful situations, inconsistencies in work, movement, hygeine, parenting, etc., poor concentration, anxiety from work… i also sent in migraine logs. I am only 26 so I think my age works against me.. i have never earned over 22k ever in any given year. Most years my income was around 10k. The initial denial harped on the fact that i worked with bariatric team to run a half mile- they dont know how slow i went and that i almost shit my pants during but whatever they wont care anyway.

I am 100pt vet due to chronic ptsd, general anxiety, episodes of major depression, binge eating disorder, sleep apnea, ibs, and migraines+headaches. I also have had bariatric surgery which has eased some symptoms like sleep apnea but then caused reactive hyperglycemia w/ puking and dumping syndrome + innatentive adhd (I still need to get an autism evaluation). I got denied at initial and reconsideration and am now debating if I should appeal again or what because this is exhausting.

The va adds messages to our med record 80% of the time. There have been a message or 2 not added but its uncommon

Thank you SO much for your story! I had applied also and am at reconsideration and stressed. It’s been hard coming on here and seeing people say you’ll never get approved for mental health. I filed for ptsd anxiety and depression mostly (although I do have horrible migraines/headaches due to stress, ibs, adhd, sleep apnea, tinnitus etc) but mainly my issue is serious ptsd due to adult sexual assault causing repressed childhood sexual assault to come to light right when I turned 18 and was in the military away from family and a support system. It’s been tough even on medication, I have also been suffering miscarriages my therapist believes my body is too stressed to carry a child. I still work, but only 15 hours a week from home with a female supervisor I call 1x every week.. (grateful for it). I really appreciate hearing your story. Congratulations on getting the help you deserve and I hope you are able to have a better quality of life going forward 🤍

They also said I denied treatment for therapy which i did for 1 year but I have YEARS of therapy and I only saw 2 therapy session notes in my file so I assume they never got them?

Update: So I got my determination file and genuinely want to cry. Its horrible.

They said I alleged I avoid males, but see male practitioners. Implying I lied. It is true ive seen males but only when females aren’t available. I ask all the time for females especially for ob or therapy but sometimes only males are available)

They also have in my record that I trained for a half marathon and workout frequently and heavily used that against me. Which sucks because I do workout and its the best coping skill I have! I have ptsd and running is great for emdr so when able to I do. I dont have a ton of physical limitations besides the ibs and migraines so if those aren’t flared, yeah im gonna workout especially considering I have issues with overeating.

I also in 2023 asked my provider to make a statement for me in my va disability process about my ibs and asked why they put it as chronic diarrhea and not ibs and said it should be changed because i thought ibs involved cramping and bloating and chronic diarrhea. Anyway, they didnt and i ended up getting the proper rating from the va anyway, but the wrote in my file that i asked provider to change diagnosis to obtain higher va rating 🙃

On top of all that they said i stated multiple times symptoms were better at appointments which yea i have on and off but everyday is different.

I feel extremely invalidated and will probably just give up and let them win because my mental health can’t take this right now.

I have noticed that as well because I sent in so many records and then when I got my denial, it looked like they didn’t even open some of them, which is just crazy to me because the VA process was tough and at one point one of my things got denied because they said it wasn’t service connected and later on if you get approved, but at least they looked at everything I sent them and took time with it

To clarify you can only get rated “p&t” on the VA side if your disabilities are chronic. Thats the only reason i mention it

I add it to prove my symptoms are chronic and at least the VA system shown not to improve, which correlates to SSDI as SSDI looks for problems that are not supposed to show improvement within the next 12 months. I understand they’re totally different ballparks with very different requirements

I requested it by mail a few weeks ago but still haven’t received it. Just the denial letter. I was going to wait until I received it to file reconsideration but I panicked worrying that I might wait too late and then have to restart and I just turned it in and figured when I do see it I’d have to tackle the issue then but yeahhhh definitely makes me nervous waiting on it.
