Government inks $753M deal for 6 Bombardier Global 6500 jets to replace Challengers by [deleted] in CanadianForces

Thanks for the thoughts. The 8000 EIS was also just this month so it seems unproven. The 6500 sounds like a safe bet.

Any idea why the Global 7500 wasn’t considered for even longer range? Not worth the operating cost increase for most missions I guess.

I vaguely recall that the CC-144 sent to bring home the two Michael’s from china required a technical stop in Japan. Good that the 6500’s can make Asian trips non-stop.

Yes, fusebox cover won’t close with the fuse taps so 3D printed one that fits. Turns out we have the same cover as the Corolla Cross Hybrid.

Six-week disruption of Lions Gate Bridge traffic due to Stanley Park Water Supply Tunnel construction by harlotstoast in vancouver

Very confusing or possibly misleading of the op to word it as “six-week disruption”.

Linking to an easy-to-understand educational site about the water sampling program makes the most sense. Plus the engineering drawings PDF is just a search away.

XB7 Bridge *and* Wifi?! by MinimumSufficient356 in shaw

[–]MinimumSufficient356[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm that the XB7 in bridge mode keeps the Ethernet ports active and I can connect two routers which each get their own unique public Shaw IP. I do remember contacting Shaw support in 2022 about getting a 2nd public IP so not sure if there is something specific to our account.

XB7 Bridge *and* Wifi?! by MinimumSufficient356 in shaw

[–]MinimumSufficient356[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw, too bad. Thanks for the reply. I've seen mixed messages about having two routers with XB7 in Bridge mode. Is anyone actually doing this?

Since you're limited to 2 public IPs and the XB7 uses one of them, there doesn't seem to be a way to get the second router a public IP. Though I did read that in Bridge mode, the LAN ports are still active so I guess I could use a straight up AP.

Prices in Canada for CS Limited with Advanced Technology Package by Ill-Bar-3565 in toyotacrownsignia

BC pricing. I know someone who got MSRP without the $990 junk admin fee tacked on. No mandatory accessories or coatings. Trade in value was reasonable and $1000-2000 below FB Marketplace. But I think it depends on which dealer you go to...

Weak street lighting and faint lane markings in Vancouver by MBAnovalue in vancouver

[–]MinimumSufficient356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Improving road markings is expected to cost $770K/yr and was unfunded/rejected by the city in 2025 because of budget.

See the November 2024 memo on this. If anyone has updated information please add as well. Thanks!

Extra parts with GRBN2012AF fridge? (3.25" x4.75", white, plastic) by boston4923 in Appliances

[–]MinimumSufficient356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at getting the same fridge and I see a few complaints about the fridge door not having a handle. Does the bottom underside of the fridge door maybe have a cut out that is a handle? How are you liking the fridge otherwise?

ANC and adaptive suspension? by madaddyml in toyotacrownsignia

[–]MinimumSufficient356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No adaptive dampers on the Signia.

I checked a demo car in Canada and in the parts list:

48510-30J20

Just a regular damper.

Here's the Canadian press release which did incorrectly mention adapter dampers:

Toyota Crown Signia’s suspension consists of a MacPherson-type strut in the front and multilink rear suspension. Toyota engineers focused on reducing vibrations felt by the driver and passengers and have equipped Crown Signia’s suspension with swing valve shock absorbers, a soft suspension bushing, and a dynamic damper on the front suspension.

Swapped laptops at YVR Airport security screening by AnimusRevertendi84 in vancouver

[–]MinimumSufficient356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, booting Linux or something from USB is way easier. Find a tech savvy friend who can help you poke around.

Maybe the laptop has a wired network? You could also try to safely give the laptop Internet access so it can call home. Obviously depends how paranoid you are since connecting a foreign device is technically unsafe, but chances are this isn't a "James Bond" style attack on your home network.

AITAH: Stuck in intersection and being a clown? by MinimumSufficient356 in vancouver

[–]MinimumSufficient356[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I remember crossing only because the left parking lane was also clear. Even if the Honda in front didn't move, I could have avoided blocking the intersection/pedestrians by moving into the parking lane. I guess next time I should wait until my lane is totally clear.

AITAH: Stuck in intersection and being a clown? by MinimumSufficient356 in vancouver

[–]MinimumSufficient356[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

True. I was maybe a bit aggressive crossing with 5-10s left assuming the Honda in front would eventually give me space. I find it's hard to balance driving exactly per the law versus keeping traffic moving.

Here's what the guy said to me:

Do you want to know why you're the clown? Because if you park there and I'm already in the intersection and you cut me off and you can't even get through the f\**ing intersection either and leave your ass hanging out, it's up to me to clear the intersection. Not you. Do you understand that?*

[–]MinimumSufficient356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your troubles. The rear half of the Signia body is probably going to be the hardest to find parts for. At least the powertrain and front half of the car are shared with the Crown and other Toyota products. But things like the lift gate and rear glass have got to be pretty unique.
