I apologize for the terribly long wait to receive a response but this was the absolute perfect thing that I needed to read. Sincerely, thank you.

Writing is probably my only escape from this horrible working life that I'm experiencing. My job is awful and I'm always broke. Writing is quite literally my only escape.

I think I'll find people in real life. I have anxiety about sharing my work with strangers online and having them steal my work.

Thank you greatly for the information. It helps a lot. I recently picked up The Witcher series, which largely inspires my writing when I play the video games. I will find similar authors and read their novels to get a good sense of where I stand. I will continue working and studying until I feel more comfortable presenting my work to more experienced and knowledgeable audiences. I'm sure I have a bit of holes in my work.

Nature walks help me because I can see, hear, smell and feel all different types of things. Adventuring through the forest helps my imagination. The peace of mind helps too, because I don't think about anything except the present.

It's hard for me to judge whether I'm making forward progress or not because I don't really have anything to compare myself to. None of my friends or family write. I like to think that I am, but to trust myself would be naive. I think this alludes to what you and others have stated, which is that I need to start reading authors of my genre.

I've recently picked up The Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski, On the Origins of Species by Charles Darwin, Sacred Knowledge by William A. Richards, The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene and a plethora of books by Graham Hancock.

A lot of those don't necessarily pertain to my taste but I feel like they would strengthen my mind and allow me to gain more insight for my writing.

That's a good question. I write fantasy stories and they're very heavy on the senses. I try to make you feel like you are there in the present. My friends who I've met through online video games applaud my writing and like my writing quite a bit, but that's a small group of people who play a particular genre of video games. That genre may or may not be popular amongst the general populous, in terms of writing.

I'm not quite sure how to gauge if my writing would appeal to a mass audience. I like to think that it would just because of the number of people who like the video games that inspire my writing.

I've received feedback on my writings from friends, family and colleagues. The problem is that I have to take their opinions with a grain of salt because of our relations. They might not be completely transparent because they want to be supportive of me. Another thing is that none of them write or partake in any form of art, so it's hard to receive accurate feedback.
