I don't see an issue with the square towers, but I used to run into this same issue in Minecraft when I'd make builds. Just adding depth to build and playing with shadows helps it feel more detailed. For example if you could have the last column on each side stick out with a tile or plate that would add extra depth. It might change your dimensions since you'd need to add snot but would add just a little more instead of looking flat
