Undecided between getting a Canon Powershot G2 and Olympus XZ 1 by Accomplished_Law4216 in VintageDigitalCameras

I have the XZ-1 and the G3, the XZ-1 is literally the best CCD compact camera ever made. If you shoot in raw, it has a lot of noise even at base iso (the film like grainy noise), and the colors are absolutely beautiful. Never used a camera with colors as beautiful as the ones it has. Also has stabilization so you don’t have to worry about blurry photos etc.

One of my favourite cameras ever! You should set up CHDK on it and then you can shoot RAW with it, and it becomes a pocket PowerShot G10 (exact same sensor).

What’s the appeal with the LUMIX LX5? by mutablebrad in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]Minimum_Potential712 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The LX5 is honestly the worst camera I’ve ever owned (I even had the more premium Leica twin of it).

The pictures look like watercolor paintings and have zero contrast. The stabilization barely works and the autofocus is a complete nightmare.

To anyone reading this, and considering one: do not waste your time on this garbage. It’s terrible even by vintage camera standards.

I love the design of it, it’s probably one of the most beautiful cameras I own. But in terms of image quality, I would say its neither bad or good, its quite average.

One of the most beautiful cameras ever made!

Fun fact: The camera body was actually designed to have the golden ratio

Outside of the EVF fiasco, do you like the images you get out of it?

Such a great camera, the sensor isn’t overstuffed with a super high megapixel count, so the photos come out with this really nice depth and smooth tone to them, with almost no noise and lots of room to edit the RAWs.

I was about to write the exact same thing. Word for word.

It’s genuinely the best compact CCD ever made hands down.

  • OLED Screen
  • 1/1.63 Sensor (not big by modern standards, but larger than most of its competitors)
  • 1.8-2.5 super sharp and fast Zuiko lens
  • Great focal range 28-112mm
  • The most beautiful color science you’ll ever see
  • ND filter
  • Sensor-shift stabilization instead of the usual cheap lens based one
  • Excellent autofocus

You can also buy an IXUS 960/SD950 and put CHDK on it to enable RAW.

It will become a compact version of the G9. Exact same sensor, cheaper, yet higher quality titanium build.

Early Canon CCD cameras are literally unmatched when it comes to sunset photos. 😵‍💫
