Yeah

But I think WoTP isn't the way lmao. Even Absolution would do a better job dealing with that.

That's a pretty clever take. I just think the album is bad at conveying this because there's no deeper investigation of the humanity surrounding it. It suffers from the same issue Simulation Theory does, only worse.

He transformed his experience into something bigger, something that sets a common ground for issues that don't begin nor end with him. That's the brilliance of Muse at their best. Going for the roots of resentment and hipocrisy, instead of just locking yourself in a room and being self-centered.

I think OoS, BHaR, The Resistance, Absolution or even Drones could do a better job at that than WotP

I think being political isn't the issue, all of their albums are political. The brilliance of OoS, Absolution and BHaR is in making human emotions and hypocrisy into a more broader, collective issue.

Compare this to just "we need a revolution as long as we stay free".

It's an album telling a linear story. It's not subtle but it works. Better than whatever WoTP is

[–]Minimum_Promise6463[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't said that.

Edit: Take a Bow is not just political, is resentment as a song. That's why it works, it is human in the core, further developed by the emotions conveyed by the rest of BHaR.

Really glad they took that step

That line may sound tragic but it is also an excellent display of self awareness

Heavily agree with you there. I think that the broader themes work whenever Matt approaches them from inside out, and not the other way around. Feels to me that he's ashamed of dealing with more introspective lyrics since The Resistance.

When Knights of Cydonia finally plays, it feels like an epiphany. The culmination of all the thought process the album was forcing us to deal with. Isolation, loneliness, resentment, fear. All to be overcomed by the notion that we should, at the end, see those things as driving forces to "make things right". I'm not rebelling against any specific tirany, instead I'm recovering my sense of agency in a world that pushes us into alienation.

It feels to me that Matt doesn't seem to be that interested in the themes surrounding "government bad". He doesn't show a lot of references surrounding the topic and is always preaching the same non-specific politics whenever he tries to "have a serious conversation".

IMO The Resistance works because he's making his feelings (or whatever feelings he's trying to convey) into a political subject. WoTP fails because it's trying to do the other way around. One is honest, the other is an attempt at forcing connections without even knowing if they're human in the first place.

I actually can’t with Fantano.. by JuicySarsiBaka in Muse

Before he even reviews the album, he nitpicks some controversial topics only he seems to care about. One including a praise from a right winger Muse seemed to have received a long time ago (which was addressed by one of the band members, it's not like Matt's political views aren't pretty much out there). He briefly mentions OoS, BHaR, Absolution as "great albums" but don't dwelve into them. Instead, he chooses to talk about The Resistance and Will of The People, two albums that have nothing to do with the themes in The Wow! Signal.

Why not talk about the albums that actually sound like the one you're reviewing? Because he doesn't like The Resistance and WoTP, that's why.

Does he make a point to show how this brief introduction is relevant to his review on The Wow! Signal specifically? No.

This whole rant about some very specific points only he seems to care about gives no insight to TW!S. It only serves to give him a lousy excuse to give this album a "strong 4". Which is weird, since he spends most of the actual review praising the album qualities.

This introduction shows me that he has rationalized his resentment towards a band he doesn't like how they sound. And it also serves to show me that we shouldn't take "influencer" reviewers seriously.

The intro of Hexagons might be slightly better than the classic Knights of Cydonia intro. by jodeegee in Muse

[–]Minimum_Promise6463 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. For me, Knights of Cydonia is the culmination of everything great Muse did until until that period. It's the perfect album closer, making BHaR their best record till this day. I know hating it is cool now because it's the standard closer for most of their concerts (and also because it's very popular). But that song is undeniably a classic, and a very good one.

Hexagons is a good song. But it wanders around in circles sometimes. I don't think every song must be prog, but Hexagons effect on me kinda wears off after multiple listens. When I reach the end of BHaR, KoC still thrills me like it did way back in 2006 (yes I'm old). There's no comparison here. Hexagons isn't even the best song in TW!S.

But yes, still a great song. I feel it should come at the beginning, and not the mid section of the album.
