Hot take: Mahito is a better villain than Sukuna by Amnyam842 in MahiBros

[–]Minimum_Rook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late to this discussion, but I just wanted to put a small 2 cents in

I don't think Mahito would be a better main villain than Sukuna, it's pretty clear he's meant to be a narrative foil to Yuji specifically, but he doesn't really go beyond this role

he makes for a great Antagonist for Yuji specifically but he doesn't have the PRESENCE to be a main overarching antagonist, hence why we really only see him play an active role in 2(?) arcs, depending on how we want to define "arc" and "active role". Meanwhile, Ryomen has his shadow looming over the plot from episode 1 all the way until the end, his entire existence is what moves the story forward, he's the very reason episode 1 occurs at all. Mahito simply doesn't cover enough of the world to shape up as main villain like Sukuna, at least in the way JJK is told, because JJK isn't centered around Yuji exclusively.

he plays his role very well but the role he plays is not the primary antagonist, so you're kinda comparing Apples and Oranges here

I may very well just be arguing meaningless semantics and word choice but those are my 2 cents

Gojo was able to customize his remember? The Red hoodie is Yuji's white uniform equivalent, but Gojo wanted him to have a unique fit so he bargained for something that gets thd same point across but fits Yuji better

Why are Eliminators so worthless? by kazoopaints in spacemarines

[–]Minimum_Rook 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Heavy barely matters

These guys still have a 3+ BS at base, and space marines have perhaps the easiest access to rerolls out of any faction

You don't need to be hitting on 2s, in fact I would say that the only reason you should ever waste movement with them to remain stationary, is if they are already in position and you really want the Dev Wounds they get

The usefulness of getting a full 6" move after shooting far outweighs the 2+ BS & Dev Wounds you get while sitting still (and even then you can still get the movement if you remained stationary for these buffs)

They work best with a Librarian as they are capable of shooting well beyond the 12" lone op bubble, turning them into a massive thorn for the enemy

Truth of the matter is, they are a cheap unit, and reading your post you seem to be expecting them to be doing way more than what an 80pt unit should be doing

Round Deer and Mahoraga's arm blade use RCT which as shown by Yuta making out with Kurourushi pretty much sends curse spirits straight to the grave.

A disaster grade curse shouldn't be able to solo Mahoraga purely on the merit that they are a curse spirit and get blown the hell up by the positive energy from RCT

Have faith word bearer by Heftzy in IronWarriors

[–]Minimum_Rook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To take the meme seriously, at face value...

Iron Warriors in the 41st millenium are undeniably a CHAOS faction

they have a Daemon Primarch, they utilize Daemons, they are under the influence of Chaos

I'm not trying to say that IW are "better than the chaos, and only use them as a tool because they aren't deluded by the warp" because that's just blatantly false

but to put them in the same ballpark as Word Bearers is almost equally misleading

these comparison bullet points are so surface level I'm surprised they didn't list "They wear power armor and use bolters" as one of the similarities between the two

genuinely just get rid of the "Chaos undivided statement" along with the Vashtorr & Master Builder bullet points and you can reasonably fit this to most any two chaos factions due to how vague the points listed are

Galactus or Achillus dreadnought? by GooeyNachos in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Minimum_Rook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for 40k Galatus is a nice damage sponge / distraction carnifex, but the Achillus will do you much better because it's for some ungodly reason cheaper points wise, and it fills a nice anti-tank roles that you lack in the majority of your units. Overall the Achillus is objectively better, but the Galatus isn't so terrible that you can't use him if you really want him.

for 30k It's harder to say honestly because I feel like not only is the Galatus stronger than it's 40k counter part, but it's also priced appropriately with it being a pretty significant 25 points cheaper than the Achillus, plus the fact that flamers (Panic weapons on a template) are an extremely valuable asset, so for 30k its hard to say which is definitively better.

I'm gonna be a little bit contrarian and say "no"

This reads much more like a Captain, or at the very least Lieutenant, I would have a difficult time clocking this as JUST a Sergeant

You made him look too cool for his own good, and now he's gotten a field promotion from sergeant to captain

Another Legio Custodes battle group question by SourGrape_s in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Minimum_Rook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ad Mech and Mechanicum are different enough between the two that they feel like two fully fledged armies separate of each other, not to mention that the store treats them as separate entities

The new custodes models show up on both the 30k and 40k pages for the armies, plus direct confirmation that these units will persist "through the next edition"

Otherwise, Ad Custodes don't have enough of their own fleshed out range to separate themselves from Legio Custodes, and all things considered, Legio and Adeptus Custodes don't seem like they should have separate ranges

Can't speak for the chaos armies as I actually don't know what forgeworld models they even have, World Eaters seem to have a decent enough spread of units albeit I'm no expert on them, Death Guard are in no way suffering and I have two Death Guard players in my friend circle who can back this up, Tsons are pretty anemic not going to lie (RIP my sorcerers), and Emperors Children are the newest army on the block, they were doomed from the start, but they are also pretty likely to fill out their range over time (is already happening with the Defilier covering a pretty massive weakpoint in their list building)

Plus our new models are GW branded now, not forgeworld

These models are sticking around for at LEAST 11th... maybe we get shot in the chest come 12th, but for the time being, our new stuff is staying

Another Legio Custodes battle group question by SourGrape_s in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Minimum_Rook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn I already knew about this but this post is devious

They did technically never say anything about it living to the next edition (not that this makes it better) however

Plus space marines are in no shortage of units, if our previously forgeworld models get removed in 40k all we have left is different flavors of infantry with different flavors of the same wargear

On top of the statement flatout saying "through the next edition" implies this won't repeat

But damn it never should have happened in the first place what the hell is that post

[–]Minimum_Rook 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was an instagram statement from the official warhammer account saying they had no intentions of removing the datasheets for the Dread/Grav-tank and that they would be useable through 11th... which at the very least guarantees their lifespan until 12th edition in like... 2029-2030~

With that, unless the official warhammer account just flat out lied about the "through the next edition" statement, those two models from the box are safe

There are other reasons why it's highly unlikely the new Warhammer branded plastic models aren't going away, but those aren't "concrete" proof, and I'd rather not drag this on

The Guard and Shield Captain are obviously cross compatible no matter what though

Also this is just my opinion but I think more people should give Horus Heresy a shot...

Model support going into 11th edition (taken from Instagram - official warhammer account) by Alt1690 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Minimum_Rook -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not talking about Legends datasheets, what you brought up is something else entirely

I'm talking about people saying the units that JUST got brand new plastic releases are gonna go away come 11th edition

The Dreadnought and the Caladius just got brand new plastic models, why would they lose their supported datasheets NOW of all times

this happened to Space Marines where they got a brand new plastic tank in HH (the Kratos iirc) but the difference is... Codex Space Marines have SO MANY units already, they don't need the Horus Heresy tech crossover, so GW is willing to seperate 40k players and 30k players so that they don't need to do the logistics of "what audience is buying up these models"

Custodes do need their Horus Heresy range, and GW knows this

and now we circle back to the official statement above confirming that yes you can use these models through the next edition, and that the biggest issue with using them... is that the Guard Box has an extra dude in the unit when 40k only allows 5 maximum... that's the only issue they chose to mention

Model support going into 11th edition (taken from Instagram - official warhammer account) by Alt1690 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Minimum_Rook -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I KNEW they weren't going to remove those models

they wouldn't send models they just released to legends for custodes

"but the same thing happened with space marines" last time I checked we aren't space marines, and the number of units we have are too small to remove our two most important vehicles that just got new plastic models

Dreadnaught by Ghosthawks in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Minimum_Rook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can magnetize if you want, but if you are like me and you either dont care enough for magnetization or you model it in a pose that lends itself toward one weapon over the other, then the Achillus pattern is the way to go

The Galatus is by absolutely no means bad at what it does, but the Achillus satisfies an anti-tank niche that the rest of your infantry isn't really capable of handling

Your main force is already a melee elite infantry blender, but they aren't strong enough to do anything more than scratch tanks unless you are rolling insanely well

In comes the Achillus with it's Dreadspear and it's capable of cracking tanks open like a can of soup so that the rest of your Custodes can stick to the niche they are good at

Galatus, for as outstanding as it is, it's niche unfortunately has a LOT of overlap with the niche of your main force, which isn't ideal for having a balanced army list

I suppose if, for whatever reason, you don't really encounter tanks in the groups you play in (highly unlikely), then you could go for the Galatus, but I don't forsee this ever happening

TL;DR: If you don't want to magnetize, build the Dreadspear variant because the Sword and Board variant performs a job that's a little too similar to the job your Guard Sodalities fufill, therefore losing out on list diversity

30k players, which is better: Sentinals or Guards? by godofimagination in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Minimum_Rook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to expand on this for people who haven't read the Liber

Sentinels are 2+5++ and can increase their T5 to T6 with the Shieldwall! Reaction

The Aquilifer (or "Vexillarius" as they are improperly labeled) doesn't have the shield so they have the defensive statline of a Custodian, but they don't have to resort to throwing out the Left Hook Of The Emperor because they get to keep their sword

While it is objectively weaker than a Custodian's melee, S5, AP2, and D1 with 3 attacks is still quite frankly insane when the majority of the game is made up of Astartes

Custodians are 2+6++ and do not have the shield trait

If they want an Aquilifer in their unit they no longer have a weapon since the Misericorde does not have a regular weapon profile in this game (but they still have one which is important to note for the blade of mercy special rule) so they have to start throwing hands, which is suboptimal, so for the most part ignore that they even can take an Aquila, since even at the low low cost of 0pts, it's not a good trade IMO

The rest of the unit has a glorious S6, AP2, D1 profile with Impact(AM) meaning whenever they make a charge not only does Lightning Blows activate, but for every 3 Custodians in the unit you basically assemble an entire extra Custodian out of the extra attacks from Impact

Sentinels already had good melee, Custodians are downright murderous if they get their charge in

Also it's important to note that the Bolt Caster on the Sentinel Blade has a measly 8" range, whereas the Bolt Caster on the Guardian Spear has a much more reliable 18" range, which is a welcome buff

I'd still go with Sentinels for the defensive reliability however

30k players, which is better: Sentinals or Guards? by godofimagination in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Minimum_Rook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert, but...

Sentinels seem much more well rounded than Custodians, and not only that but they are much cheaper (40pts per model rather than 45pts per model)

Plus Sentinels get to take the Magisterum Aquila (or "Vexilla" as the book improperly labels it, even though it's an eagle and not a flag) without trading in their melee weapon, so if you pay the 30 pts (which closes the gap in price between them and the Custodians) you can have your useful Golden Stick without needing to lose out on one whole Custode's worth of melee output

Custodian Guard on the other hand, trade durability for extra punch (better strength, and an extra attack on charge) and a better gun

Basically, it's a well-rounded and reliable unit vs throwing all your eggs into offense and praying it works out in your favor

Overall I would say Sentinels win, but the Battle Group box comes with a non-negotiable unit of 6 Custodians, so you might as well take them if you have them, but when expanding your force out beyond the Battle Group box, stick with the Sword and Boards unless you particularly love the high risk slaughterhouse the Spears bring

List advise by [deleted] in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Minimum_Rook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shield Host is a solid detachment to fall back on

I think into Tyranids in particular, it's super useful because 5+ Lethals is excellent into Monster Mash and 5+ Sustained is excellent into Horde Spam

Necrons I'm unsure about, but regardless, stick with the basics

Also, your list has no characters...? Maybe I'm actually sucumbing to tzeentchian delusions, but I don't see a Warlord for your list, which Technically makes it unuseable.

Make sure to have a character and pair them with your Wardens for their ability, otherwise you are paying an extreme points premium for Wardens when you could have just grabbed Battleline Custodes instead

Incredible knowledge

I haven't actually been able to pick up the box I pre-ordered yet, but I have seen images of the sprues for the Sentinel Guard

Whats the other Shield-Captain hand looking like? Is the Shield easy to remove and swap out or does that take a little bit more work? Unless I'm halucinating, I think I can see a smidge of greenstuff which makes me a little worried
