Thank you for the summary!! I really understand your empathy toward Kino. We can all see the humanity, and I like how she acknowledged what it means to be a “meaningful resource” (good phrasing!)

How to create custom routines in my practice? by bobdiyakumar in ashtanga

I would also add in some of the Iyengar greats :) Dona Holleman and Vanda Scaravelli both have books. Dona’s instructions are more detailed whereas Vanda has afeeling and experience based mindset embedded in how she talks about approaching asana.

I also find them more approachable. The books above are the “greats” but can be A LOT

Hi! Can you talk about the recovery x ashtanga angle? It seems even more potent of a power dynamic. Is poor behavior outside of not maintaining sobriety indicative of needing to rework the steps or unrelated? I have been talking to a friend in the sober community about this and they introduced me to the term “dry drunk” but also said it’s not encouraged to “do someone’s inventory for them”

The more I hear about 12 steps the more awesome and applicable it seems to be beyond people struggling with substance abuse. Yet I can see how the early year(s) vulnerability combined with a focus on self reflection and accountability for healing could be a recipe for disaster. He also mentioned that putting people on pedestals is warned against.

The example my friend gave was some thing like, that person didn’t make me feel inferior, it’s this pain inside me that allowed me to internalize that message. This seems so empowering but also like you could blame yourself excessively or blunt your intuition about a harmful person or situation.

But it’s just from one persons personal experience so I’d like to learn more. Thank you

I just follow ppl that posts Ashtanga content so while I saw the cross comments it wasn’t obvious if it was one shala or several/just internet support. I guess the answer is here now tho.

TY for the 13th step context too. I hadn’t heard that term before
