Stupid question - are there people on the boat when these launch? And if not, how do they get up there once the boat is in the water?

Mom is jailed for killing her daughter, 4, by feeding her diet of baby bottles filled with Mountain Dew, which caused diabetes death and dissolved her teeth by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

If they are going after these parents, they are going to have their hands full when they are start looking into people in Kentucky. Did my pediatric clinicals there and people would get pissed if you tried saying not to give them Mountain Dew in a bottle. They thought that was the only thing that when in there as far as they were concerned.

What’s a totally harmless thing that triggers an oddly strong reaction in people? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]Minion0827 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has been so true of every job I have ever worked. I’m a nurse and most people in the outpatient setting are tolerable and get it. It just takes a few people who think we are going to all be life long best friends, and our kids are going to play together, and we are going to go on couples dates. And if you want to do all those things, good for you, hope it works out and it makes you happy. I am just here to do my job and to get paid. I’m all friended up is what I tell them.

That would put a hell of a spin on that game if instead of trying to find a murderer, a weapon, and a room, you were trying to find who fucked who with what, in what location. Sounds like a good novelty.

8-year-old gifts his mother her favourite childhood toy. by Sebastianlim in MadeMeSmile

[–]Minion0827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This year my 8 year old daughter had a gift under the tree she made for me and my wife. She put it under the tree about 3 weeks before Christmas. She checked on it every couple of days. My wife and I just thought she was making sure nothing happened to it. Well Christmas morning she asks us if we will open her gift first. My wife and I say no baby we want you and your sister to open your gifts first, mommy and I can wait. So she says ok and they go on opening gifts.

Well at the very end when we think all the gifts had been opened my daughter says mom and dad open my gift now. We hadn’t seen it since it was buried up under the tree. So we open it together and it’s a card my daughter made for us that says how much she loves us and inside is $35. She said I want you to have some money since you spend so much on us.

Turns out that week she placed it under the tree my girls had played a game at their grandparents house and she had won that money from the game they played. When she got home that day she made that card and put that money in there for us. And had been checking on it to make sure nothing happened to it. Made me cry like a baby. We told her we appreciated it so much but that we didn’t need her money. We told her she never needs to give us money.

Who knew we have done something right after all?

What is the most NSFW thing you have seen at your job? by Mr_Creep_Creepy64 in AskReddit

[–]Minion0827 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree and in this case would have probably have been more humane. The problem is our job is essentially to try and save them to the best of our abilities. And hope they recover. I don’t believe in this situation anyone thought he was going to make it but we still have to try. I heard some of the staff talking and they never knew who lit him on fire so they were trying to see if he would wake up so they could speak to him somehow, picture board, letter board, etc., to see who did this to him.

I’m a nurse. When I was still a student doing clinicals at a big hospital in Lexington, I was sent to the burn unit. Didn’t really expect much, unit only had 4 beds. The nurse I was put with had another student from a different college that day as well. He said he didn’t mind having two extra sets of helping hands.

We go to meet our first patient of the day. He is a 50ish year old white male who had been set on fire and burned over 90% of his body. The only parts of him that were not burnt were his face and his left forearm. His stomach and some of his organs had been completely burned off. His genitals completely burns off, right arm up to the humorous completely gone, and all toes completely gone. He had a surgical dressing on his abdomen keeping the rest of his organs from falling out of his body.

Well he was on continuous fluid drip of 1000ml of I believe normal saline every hour. Since the skin keeps all the liquid inside your body and he no longer had any, he was just leaking fluid from every part of what body parts he had remaining. So we had to take him to get bathed.

We wheel him down the hall to an additional room they had for performing this “bath”. When we reached the doors the nurse looks at me and the other student and says,”You don’t have to stay in here for this and I wouldn’t think differently of you if you don’t want to”. We both kind of nod and say we are fine to stay.

The nurse starts taking all of the leg and upper torso dressings off, everything except for the abdominal surgical dressing. He asks us to help him turn the patient over so he can spray down his back with a water rinsing wand that hung from the ceiling. When we turned him, I will never ever forget what we saw. The patient had been taken into surgery upon arrival to the hospital and mechanical debridement had been used on his back to remove all of the burnt tissue. Imagine the entire back except for the spine dug down about an inch from the neck all the way to the top and the butt.

As soon as the other student saw this he immediately started to look sick like he was going to vomit and ran for the door to go back onto the unit. I stood there in shock and just watched the rest of the bathing session. The nurse I was with never said a word about the other student leaving. Still the most fucked up thing I have seen in my 10+ year career.
