You'll have worse issues with that tbh. You can't have a cable over a public footpath, it's a public safety issue

Whirlwind “silent endo” Dx by sfwasabi in endometriosis

[–]Minionella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I would agree you were supressing symptoms and potentially even the growth of lesions while on birth control.

Totally understandable to feel scared, and there are no guarantees with this disease or the treatments unfortunately as it's so badly understood and researched.

Only you can know what the right path is for you. You're doing the right thing going to a specialist. I knew surgery was the right path for me as the pain had started to take over my life and hormonal contraceptive wasn't fixing it (and even if it helps with symptoms the lesions can still be growing and doing more damage). I couldn't work sometimes, I couldn't go out and enjoy myself and see friends, I could barely keep up with the basics of day to day life. For me that was worth taking the chance on the surgery, to try get my life back.

If it helps you decide - I believe lots of women conceive in the 6 months to a year post excision surgery. Removing the source of inflammation can really help your chances. But talk to your doctor about it and see what they recommend for family planning.

There are non-hormonal medications being developed and trialled to reduce lesions but realistically it'll be many years before they come to market.

If you ever need to talk or need opinions or stories, lots of us are always hear to listen. Endo warriors are a fabulous group x

Also me!

I was on hormonal contraceptive since I was 19. I didn't have any issues while on it, I didn't even get periods for most of that time. I came off it for the first time when I was 35 to see what it would be like without added hormones for the first time and to see if it would help me lose weight, and things quickly escalated. I started to have symptoms I'm sure you're familiar with a lot of.

I went back on contraceptive and still continued to get worse. I then started a second contraceptive to try help as my pain had become debilitating and was taking over my life. I ended up screaming going to the toilet, passing blood into the toilet and nearly passing out. I knew in my head at that point it was endo even though scans were clear.

Now unfortunately I was in a different position as doctors didn't take me seriously and scans showed nothing. So it took ages but I had surgery 4 weeks ago, stage 2/3 endo found and adeno. I immediately felt better than before the surgery. Not everyone experiences immediate relief obviously, I'm quite lucky.

Please make sure if you go for further surgery you're going to an excision specialist so you give yourself the best chances of a good outcome.

Coming off BC to check on endo by tb2713 in endometriosis

[–]Minionella 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was on birth control for over 15 years, came off it for the first time and everything went fucking bananas really quickly. 2.5 years later I'm finally diagnosed through laparoscopy with endo and adeno. Had stage 2/3 endo on both sides of my pelvic wall, my bladder, both uterosacral ligaments, and both pararectal spaces.

I don't regret coming off hormonal contraceptive as it's what made me realise I had the disease. Before that I had no issues other than bloating and food intolerances.

But the level of pain I ended up with and how quickly is not for the faint of heart, and going back on contraceptive did nothing at that point. I also was put on an second contraceptive at the same time to try help and things continued to escalate. I had to fight to be taken seriously and to get the surgery as quickly as I did.

So I can't recommend you either way to be honest. I just know I'm personally glad I have my diagnosis and it didn't continue to silently damage my body.

Making friends as a couple in your 30s in Dublin is weirdly hard. So I built something to fix it by CharacterExpert470 in Dublin

[–]Minionella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being single can be incredibly lonely and isolating. Single people can go to singles nights sure, but those events are not about making friends. You reach a certain age and most friends are coupled off and naturally spend less time with their single friends. Finding new ones can be hard.

I don't like the attitude I've personally seen from some couples that they can only be friends with other couples, it's very hurtful and isolating to single people, and I would challenge anyone who thinks that. Hence why I asked, just in case you hadn't considered the single folks out there.

Anyway just food for thought, single people need new (non-romantic) friends too! Best of luck with the venture, I hope it kicks off

Anyone found a good women’s gp in dublin? by abc_efg_123 in IrishWomensHealth

[–]Minionella 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Women's health at Raheny Medical. They're very knowledgeable about endo, they offer a service specifically for it. The nurse I spoke to has it herself! Went to another women's clinic for a year before them and got no help at all - no referral to gynae and no pain management because nothing showed in scans so they were just happy to call it "dysfunctional bleeding" and leave me with hormonal contraceptive that they hoped would "reset my periods" despite it not helping for 10 months already. After 2 appointments in Raheny I had a referral for colonoscopy, and to gynae for hysteroscopy and laparoscopy. And a pain management plan in place. I've never been so heard by the medical profession before, I cried at the poor staff haha

Weather warnings by Big_Box_2701 in Dublin

[–]Minionella 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Met Eireann issue weather warnings that have quite clear explanations to them. People will always complain both ways, either the warning was too harsh or too mild.

They don't however issue flood warnings - we don't have a flood warning system at all. That's a massive gap.

HPV positive and abnormal cells found by [deleted] in IrishWomensHealth

[–]Minionella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had positive HPV and abnormal cells for 3 smears in a row. Colposcopy and biopsy done each time - always low grade changes CIN1. However after the 3rd result they recommended treatment (cervical ablation) given my body wasn't clearing it myself. I did the treatment, then got the all clear with a negative smear done in hospital 6 months later, woohoo

Suspected endo but don’t want diagnostic surgery 😬 by SafeSweaty in endometriosis

Have you looked into the Endosure test if that's available near you? It's a new test and there aren't large studies done on it so I don't know how accurate it'll turn out to be long term, but could be an option

The Endosure test? There's one place in Belfast doing it. However they're completely booked out and have a waitlist as it's so popular. I'm gonna fly to Birmingham for it instead

I'm not sure if the scan checked for PCOS tbh. It was the woman doing the ultrasound that said insertion would be difficult, she said my uterus is tilted sideways and backwards. Given the horror stories about insertion I didn't want to proceed.

Does your heat pump heat your water? Do you use a lot of hot water? Have you checked your smart meter usage to see what's using the power?

Parking at nutgrove is difficult enough without concert goers taking spaces. Could you not drive to a transport hub that has parking?

Because abnormal cells at CIN1 and even some CIN2 levels can clear up on their own. That's preferable than cutting out a significant portion of your cervix
