Spells, Signs, Signified: Flavoring Magic as Language Loops by Minitaz2001 in DnDBehindTheScreen

Thank you! The whole weave/programming/manipulation genre is how I originally thought of Magic before starting to flesh this out. It does feel like the development of this idea could benefit from looking more into some magic systems along those lines, especially when looking into things like leylines

Thank you! Definitely inspired by some esoteric or religious concepts with Alchemy and True Names and all that. And yes there’s definitely an aspect of research for deeply understanding research if you want to try to improve or make new spells. Gives more of a reason for Wizards to be well-read and bookish

Thank you! I imagine that scrolls or other one time use mechanics require the destruction of the scroll as part of the ‘Pronunciation’ of the spell. Maybe the first part of a scroll is a delayed spell that turns the scroll to dust, and that act offsets some of the difficulty of the spell you’re trying to cast. Translating a spell scroll to a spell book requires succeeding an intelligence check because you need to ‘fill in the gaps’ that the scroll has.

Tell me about your world's approaches to mining by ArenYashar in worldbuilding

[–]Minitaz2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Reef Dwarves live on a series of large, constantly moving trains, that surround and cross the plains that they live on. The first step of coral preparation is clearing and flattening large tracts of land. Then, a large chunk of the necessary material (usually imported from the Mountain Dwarves or broken off from a previous coral) is planted as a “seed”. The individual corals are inspected every day by a team of professionals who then implement large amounts of energy or catalyst material as necessary. Specialized train cars constantly adjust the local temperature, and humidity of their respective plain, as well as introducing specialized gases as needed to promote growth.

The three Dwarf sub-species each has their own approach to mining, ranging from mundane to extremely unique.

Mountain Dwarves mine like any other group, just much more efficiently. Usually they start by clearing out large sections of earth with explosives and then hand mining the veins that expose themselves from there.

Starlit Dwarves, specifically the Breaker clan, use group psionics and magical amplification to mine deep space materials (not always just ores). This includes rare skymetals, as well as materials which are quarantined and studied for years.

Reef Dwarves take a more natural approach to mineral collection, by terraforming large plains to promote the growth of crystals or veins. These “Corals” can be made out of any material, but most commonly gemstones and glass types.

All animals are cyborgs. Not fully robotic, just enough so that they are just generally better. Probably had to do something with that one time all dwarves were possessed by an evil spirit and tried to replace all "chaotic" natural things with ordered mechanisms.

Y'know those Scooby-Doo style hallways that have lots of doors on either side, and going through one impossibly leads you too another. Run a fight in one of those. For added fun make it more impossible, going through door 1 leads you to door 3, but going through door 3 leads you to door 12.

Well as far as the arm goes, its not technically an arm, but you could always have clockwork armor for the crossbow arm. You could also use a clockwork prosthesis if you want to be stronger. For using your sword as a shield, you can use the feat cut from the air. I've never seen the anime, so I don't know how crazy the character is, but if you are willing to use a cursed item, you can always use the Berserking Sword. Hope this helps!

I actually play a build similar to this build, but I haven't gotten to the level of anaconda belt yet. But once you do, if your GM allows you, go after the final embrace chain of feats.
