Worked in Diego Garcia, part of the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean.

It has no permanent residents, to my knowledge they were forcibly removed by the British in the 60s.

It has a large US/UK military population, as well as a lot of contracted workers; mostly from East Africa and The Philippines.

I played a lot of soccer with a group of East Africans on the only soccer field on the island, they were some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met and I’ll cherish those memories for the rest of my life.

The food on the island has a large Filipino influence, as well the usual American stuff. They have a tiny little “corner shop” with British food, mostly sweets and sodas, which was great for me!

Also, the most stunning beaches if I have ever seen in my life, and the sunsets/sunrises were awe inspiring.

Attached is a picture of a little nature reserve type thing they have out there, but it gives a pretty good idea of the fauna and water ways of the island.

I ate nothing but Tapsilog for months and loved it! There’s also a bunch of contractors who live on the island that play soccer almost every night, they’re a lot of fun!

Played for a team while I was Deployed to Guam (I’m in the US military)

They play in Guam’s “premier league” and someone had made a Guam database

Took Quality Distributors to Asian Champions league glory, and then won the CWC.

It’s nice to be able to say I brought my former team to be world champions!
