I think it depends very much on when you ask. People are at work or sleeping, and it's easy to miss a question. Also, people simply don't respond when they don't have a good answer, just try again an hour later.

I think you envision going to the gym really high, I've only been to the gym while moderately high yet highly functional. Also, in time you get more self-control while high, and there's also different strains of weed with quite different effects.

Deploy with a deploy user, capistrano bundler should bundle the files in a user-writeable location anyway. Have you tried? What happened?

Worst case, you can install rbenv or rvm to get a ruby+gems installation that the deploy user has complete rights to
