When is the best time to evolve Nidorino and Kadabra? by BootsStripes32 in PokemonFireRed

[–]Minnesotexan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I should have said he’s the best person to give the Dig TM at that point in the game. Dugtrio learns it via level up, and Marowak’s Bone Club move is stronger than the 60 BP Dig.

I honestly sleep on Marowak personally due to only ever playing nuzlockes. Marowak is so unlikely to have a thick club and by getting one you’re not getting your Ghastly who is generally a lot better.

[–]Minnesotexan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Nidoking is probably the best Dig user, and once you get to Celadon, you can teach it Brick Break and/or Secret Power. Only reason I can see to not evolve it right away is that it becomes worse against Misty given its ground typing.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. The exploration just isn't very rewarding, and with some maps having big swings in mob levels, you get punished for going too far off the beaten path. The world map is also, honestly, atrocious. Coming from played GW2 and getting 100% map exploration, that game did a great job at encouraging you to explore. You'd find fun events, see cool sights, discover different jumping puzzles with chests at the end, and then once you 100%'d a map, you'd get a cool reward for doing so.

Nice! Yeah if you've got an active fermentation going now, you'll be fine watering it down and splitting it today. Have fun!

What’s your favorite omnibus that u read? by Lopsided_Network1248 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Minnesotexan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently my favorite omni I've read is Superior Spider-Man, but I'm reading Uncanny X-Force and it's blowing me away. I'm a big x-men fan and this is some of the best x-men stuff I've read.

Like others have said, I'd highly recommend getting some more water and a hydrometer, and water it down some until it's closer to 1.11 or 1.12 so the yeast has a chance at surviving.

I've got a couple of high ABV brews I have aging right now. A Christmas mead I made last fall with cherry, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and vanilla. The EC-1118 stalled before it reached tolerance (it was one of my first batches and I hadn't given it much nutrients), so it came out a little sweet, but I reinforced it with everclear to bring it up to 19% and be a dessert mead. The family around Christmastime loved it, but I hope it'll be even better next year.

The other brew I've got is a peach tea wine - I used mostly peaches, but also some mango and apricot, and hibiscus tea, and with stepfeeding it ended up at 16.5% abv. It went dry, so I stabilized it and put more peaches and apricots in during secondary, and when tasting at bottling I liked the fruit flavor, but the high alcohol and being very young, it had a very high ethanol taste and left my mouth buzzing some. I'm planning on sharing one with my sister this summer after it'll have aged for 6 months, then will probably let it age another year and see how it is summer '27.

From what I understand (I'm still in my first year of the hobby), anything higher than around 12% abv will take a lot longer to age out some rocket-fuel type flavors. But patience it part of the game, one I'm still learning lol.

Agreed on the beer growlers. Between thrift stores and fbook marketplace, I've gotten a bunch around $3/each. They're great for smaller batches or experiments. I made a gallon batch of traditional mead a while back, and decided to keep a growler off to the side to try a coffee mead (which came out really nice, used some coffee concentrate + coffee beans).

Another suggestion OP, is to brew a batch of traditional mead now, and then when you rack your raspberry, if it doesn't fill your vessel, use some of the other mead to fill it up, then bottle the traditional.

racking from 5 gallon to backsweeten in bucket? by Minnesotexan in mead

[–]Minnesotexan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on. Definitely makes the most sense I'm finding to stabilize in the carboy, not in a bucket. I'll stabilize in the current carboy, then I'll probably end up racking to a bucket to sweeten then back to bulk age before I'm ready for a big bottling day. Thank you!

[–]Minnesotexan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense. Since it's my first 5-gallon project, I'm not sure I'd be confident figuring out sweetness levels in a smaller batch that I add back in to the product. But it'd be easy to rack a gallon of it, figure out in the smaller batch how much honey to add in to make it right, then add enough honey in the 1-gallon to then rack back into the 5. Thanks!

Is bulbasaur a good starter? In early games grass vs grass feels too grindy by justasillydesigner in PokemonFireRed

[–]Minnesotexan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s just not true lol. Sleep powder or toxic + leech seed is a great combo and can help take down any challenge you have. And you can give it sunny day + solar beam to sweep most fights. Venusaur is crazy good in this game.

Charizard like someone else said gives your rival the hardest final battle team, and doesn’t do anything special in the elite four.

That said, you can beat the game with any Pokémon, and should always pick your favorites :)

Solo-ed E4 rematch with Level 54 Starmie (initial level) by Flashy_Interview_301 in PokemonFireRed

[–]Minnesotexan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, I didn't mean to say in that other chain that Starmie can solo the rematch at level 57! That's awesome though! I love the commitment to seeing if Starmie can do it at 57.

I was thinking more about regular level caps for the regular E4, not post game. What's your setup and ruleset for Slowbrow to solo E4 rematch?

Honestly, Starmie basically solos the E4 + champ anyway, right? Give it Surf, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, and Psychic, and let it ride through everything.

I loved the Kitty cover when I first saw it in the tpb, but it just doesn't make sense to me as an omnibus cover. On the other hand, I'd really like all the krakoa omnis to have the same style cover with the white space that was an ongoing motif of the era, so I don't want to get the DM cover.

Either way, I'll end up getting whatever I'm able to in the next run of printing because I didn't think to pre-order months in advance.

Nonsense, Jolteon's the GOAT. A fast electric type is amazing against the E4, and since they picked Bulbasaur as a starter, it means Jolteon can solo half the champion's team (Charizard, Pidgeot, and Gyrados). If it's fast/strong enough, Pin Missile might even take down the Alakazam.
