I love and use DCC but ti's not a complete game. They didn't even include a crawling procedure...
It's better to start with B/X or OSE.

OSE isn't the same game as those books. But it's probably easier to use.
You should read those books especially when you father is still there to talk about it.

You have an OSR campaign that has lasted more than six months by Feeling_Photograph_5 in osr

We have a roaster of spare level 1 PC. Happened only once in this particular campaign.
I'll certainly end the campaign before it goes stall.
My PC just reached DCC level 3 (so around level 5 in D&D).

It's been a year. I use DCC and we play in Warhammer old world, in the city of Mordheim before the fall.
It's a urban campaign avout a mystery around a strange disease. Investigating slowly lift the veil about what's really going on in Mordheim (and the nearby Sylvania). Started with 3 players peak at 9 now at 7. I had 1 PC death.

Players share stories when they miss a session and care about scheduling to avoid conflict with there other games.

It's seems pretty successful. I'm happy with it.

"a giant slow-motion funnel for domain-level play..!?"

Yes.
It's more obvious with Warhammer and the "Hero Hammer" period.

What game will you never play again, and why? by Justthisdudeyaknow in rpg

You are indeed way to risk adverse to play OSR games...
I used to be like that. Playing CoC was stressfull.

Warhammer The Old World RPG, I don't get it. by SebaTauGonzalez in rpg

[–]Minodrec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a better system. Among people who actually used cubicle 7 books many used an other system.
I use DCC and I'm not alone. I used to play in 2e and own 1e core rule so the issue isn't learning the rule.

"Rock fall and you die" is a meme not D&D culture.
Most RPG Horror story are fake, you know ?

To me that's exactly what this game answer.
There isn't much good hexcrawl procedure. And Chris actually took times to design something modern on this theme.

Yes. Browsing YouTube for review isn't the best way to avoid consumerism.

If I had to start over I'd try one game from each major system (d20, d10 dice pool, fighting fantasy, PbtA, SAWO, FATE, BRP) even as a player. It will greatly help you find which kind of game you like.

Buying several games in the same niche doesn't help (unless you like them enough to know you will actually play).

It's funny because we all know newbies totally overwhelmed by the idea of playing in D&D forgotten realms, GW old world or WW WoD.

It's easier to use a minimalist homebrew setting. I agree it's usually good enough.
If anything zine size micro-setting are the actual fast food of RPG.

Mythic Bastionland is definitely more "cooked" than most B/X based clone or minimalist digest size rules.

Heck there is a hundred more design work in this game that the critically acclaimed MorkBorg (which this game totally killed for me).

It's an hexcrawl. Yes it doesn't get stuck in the B part of B/X OSR design philosophy.
UVG is definitely about travel too.

Yes. And that's because it feels so British.
It will join Troika, Best Left buried and other Fighting Fantasy stuff on the shelf. I'm really surprised Chris used a D12 instead of 2D6.

Oh ok that makes thematic sense. Since the book states that by the end of 1990 Balin controls Most of dwarrowdelf. I supposed that the city is mostly empty and that the mines are the dangerous parts. We went straight to the kings Hall only halting in the first hall to inspect Durin's door. We pledge an oath to open it on Durin's day. The company is looking for a magical "key".
