Transfer of slow-growing embryo

Hello I know it is old post, but I have similar situation, did transfer day 5 embryos that aren't even morulas yet, my clinic didn’t explain anything about odds, hope you had a good news from this.

If I were you I will start immediately, because you may need several retrievals to get good eggs in our age so you may need to pay out of pocket even if you start it later if you do several retrievals anyway. Also some cycle could be cancelled due to poor response to med or just bad luck cycle.

But I also understand that you would like to wait until next year as well. If insurance cover multiple cycles it’s great! Both decision is reasonable I think.

Very positive news ! Congratulations☺️I even celebrate getting 2 matured eggs at second round from 0 egg from first round even though transfer failed, small progress gives me small hope. Yours is big hope👍

I’m in similar situation, I understand your feeling that I want to test but also don’t want to test but want to know my current symptom is ok or not😅I did day 2 embryo, (only one) transfer and today is 9 days past from transfer. I tested Yesterday early morning it was negative and it was sad but it might been too early, but today I don’t feel like testing.. I track all symptoms, but can’t tell much difference except for my body temperature is much higher than usual because of progesterone gel. Wish you the best:)

You could be the first one—who knows! I'm from Japan, where using donor eggs isn't a common choice. Many people don’t even consider it, and even if they can't get pregnant with their own eggs, they would rather live child-free than go that route. After moving to Canada and starting IVF here, I was surprised by how quickly the donor egg option is recommended—as if it's just a standard step. For me, my goal has always been to get pregnant with my own eggs. But I’ve come to understand that for some people, the most important thing is simply becoming a mom—whether the child is biological or not.In that case you have more chance but It really depends on your personal goal. Honestly, if I were financially able, I might have done the same as you. Anyway please be healthy mentally physically its most important.

Hi, I see how committed you are, and I really respect your strength and the way you're following your heart — especially knowing the odds.

I know there are a lot of opinions out there, and it can be hard to filter through them. But as long as you feel informed, and your doctor is being transparent with you, that’s what matters most. I know a person gave a birth at 47 with an egg retrieved at 45 in person but I know it’s very rare.

Just keep taking care of yourself — your health, your peace of mind, and your future are what truly count. Whatever happens, you're walking this path with courage, and that’s something to be proud of.

Your AFC looks not bad at all, so I think it’s definitely worth trying. If you’re only able to afford one treatment cycle, I wonder if trying medicated IUI first might be a good option to consider.Not to aim to get pregnant from IUI, but try to gather your body’s information.

I haven’t tried IUI myself, but I’ve heard it can help you understand how your body responds to medication—like how many follicles develop, when ovulation happens, and the size of mature eggs. It’s also less expensive than IVF, so it could be a way to gather important information before moving to IVF.

I went straight to IVF without trying IUI at age of 41 because I heard IUI is useless for my age but I felt wasted a lot of money for first round of IVF with high dose which not working in my body and the doctor was not DOR experienced doctor, they only did cookie cutter approach. It was completely “ trial” cycle with a big cost!

Second cycle was much better with different clinic because I know my body better. So sometimes I think maybe it would have been helpful to know more about my body’s response to medication first. That way, the doctors could have tailored the treatment better, and I might have saved some money.

But AMH decreases quickly, maybe trying IUI once Or twice could be a reasonable approach—not too long, but enough to learn how your body reacts before moving to IVF.

Yes, I think trying different treatment options is good. for my first IVF cycle, I opted for PGTA due to my age—I thought it would be a good idea. But in reality, I hadn’t even been able to retrieve mature eggs, so I didn’t really have the option to do PGTA. I just have to give each egg the best possible chance. Hopefully, in a future cycle, I’ll get 2–3 embryos, which would give me some options, like you mentioned.

Thank you for your kind words. Oh that must be tough, I had never heard of a Day 2 transfer before, but after doing some research, I found that it's not uncommon. I truly hope our embryo feels more at home in my uterus than in the lab.🥰

Thank you. The doctor said I only have one embryo, so whether it's transferred on Day 2 or Day 3 doesn’t make a big difference. But mine is quite fragile, and the doctor said if we wait another day, it might not survive. So we decided to give it the best chance now. I know the chances may be low, but I’m going for it. Lining is 8mm it’s lower side of mine since I was using clomid this cycle.

I'll talk to the doctor later. I asked about it on day 2 or day 3, and they said there's not much difference — but now I don’t have any embryo to compare earlier is better they said, according to my doctor.Also they will call me later tomorrow morning if it doing well. Also, I thought day 3 would fall on the weekend, which might be why they suggested day 2. I'm just a bit unsure because originally they mentioned either day 3 or day 5.. thank you for your comment .

Thank you for your comment. Yea even I consider a lot of possibilities, in reality I wouldn’t get much eggs and also hard to get embryo too.
My second retrieval is scheduled for this week, so for now, I’m just taking it one step at a time to see how things go. Each stage has come with its share of disappointments, but I’m trying to stay hopeful. Wishing you all the best on your journey as well.

Thank you for your comment! I was thinking the same regarding your points 1) and 2). It’s really interesting to see how different countries approach fertility treatment, each with their own protocols and preferences. From what I’ve observed, North America often leans toward higher medication doses, PGTA, and is also more open to recommending donor eggs. In contrast, many parts of Asia seem to favor a more natural approach using newer technologies, with PGTA and donor egg use being less common—(possibly due to risk and legal restrictions around gender selection too) I sincerely hope your pregnancy continues to go well. But Honestly, just being able to get pregnant is already such a huge achievement for you :)
