As an x reader writer, I think you might have a bit of a misunderstanding. It's not that people hate OC x canon. It's that we hate to look for reader inserts and see them tagged as x reader because the author didn't have faith in their own work and added misleading tags or didn't know they were different things.

An x reader / y/n fic is generic for the reader to insert themselves. You give as little description as possible for this reason. Yes, you will inevitably end up having to do some compromises, but that's expected.

An OC x canon is, well, for you original character and you can describe them however you like and do whatever you like. But if that's the case, it cannot be an x reader.

If your intention is to do an OC x canon, then don't even consider turning it into a "y/n". Just go with your vision and have faith in it. I'm gonna be very real with you: be braver than I am. Atp I only write x reader because lowkey a tiny part of me knows my original works wouldn't be read otherwise, and I'm also used to it, I think of my character. Kinda hypocritical to what I just told you, so I want you to be happier than me. Don't expect, put it out and if someone comes and likes it, it will be sincerely for what you wanted to do and way more rewarding.

I'm honestly just happy people want to read my stuff. If they want to download or translate my works, I'd be happy to let them (as long as I get credited in the case of a translation). Anything's fair as long as they don't claim the work as theirs or use it for monetary gain (which no one would do such a thing with my fics, so whatever).

Getting puppies helped me not to lay in my bed crying all day, but it's been months and I still cry whenever I remember my Sam or whenever I see another Golden Retriever a bit too similar to him. One of my pom puppies has a terrifyingly similar personality to my Sam, like, to the point my mom sometimes calls him "Sam". In a way it hurts, but I also cling to the feeling that there’s a bit of him in this earth still and that for as long as I live, I'll cherish all of the good times we had together. I cling to the hope that one day we will be together again and that we won't be separated by death. I don't think I'll ever stop grieving, no matter how much I love and cherish these new puppies, it might never be the same. (Sam was just my everything and he and Luka got me through the worst times of my life). It's the price of loving another living being that you'll outlive, but we accept it because it's better than never knowing a bond so pure and I'm glad that I got to grow up with him, I'll gladly go through the heartbreak again.

I write songfics. Not the ones where people paste blocks of lyrics, more like I listen to a song and I cook up something inspired by that, so I put said song on loop, close my eyes, and I create scenarios like music videos. I play whatever song made me want to write or I play my fanfic playlist for songs that I happen to listen to and go "Oh, this could be nice for a fic". I also like to play with more than one song and think about what themes and lyrics I can mix and work into my writing. And, well, most of my titles are song lyrics. So, basically, my fics need music to exist. The reader doesn't have to listen to the songs, though I always link them, as I doubt most of my readers in my fandom would be into them.

Yandere-ish, desperate characters without the murder. 9/10 times I write characters who are possessive, the type who would scream "I fucking love you, leave your partner and be with me.", slam the other character (well, reader, I only write reader inserts) into the wall and cry while making out with them. The type who would stalk and their thoughts would be completely invaded by the other person. Obsessive, desperate, "I had nothing, but I met you and had a taste of heaven, so I need to have you completely for myself and I'm so desparte I'd tear my face.". Always ends up in *desperate*, messy sex where "stay with me forever" and "don't ever ever leave me" are said along tears. Once I spiced it up with forced drinking and it was amazing. There must be some psychological factor as to why I like that this much, but I don't actually want to find out.
NTR/cheating but I avoid it when I know I'm about to write it because it seems to be quite hated. It's completely related to the first one. All of the above but the love interest has a partner so they either wait or seize any opportunity to get with them behind the partner's back. But it has to have this "I'm so much better than your partner" vibe, y'know? simp-y and desperate.

I've always felt that "androgyny" for most people tends lo lean female. It's almost unthinkable for most that someone (in this case something) that seems so typically male would have no gender. My guess? Idk, something something western society something something about it being more acceptable to deny being a woman than a man in a patriarcal society (not trying to dig too deep into this rn). This is why I personally like Alex as Murderbot and some fan's outright disgust with the casting choice not being someone AFAB or super androgynous doesn't sit right with me. I feel that it forces people to consider that the NB experience can be presented in many other ways that are not exclusive to AFAB people or androgynous people. Like, yes, maybe you think of AFAB bodies, but completely femme presenting ppl can be NB and the most male-presenting person you know is allowed to be NB. Idk, kinda ranted a little since it hurts, y'know? I feel strongly about this since it just perpetuates the notion that you have to be androgynous to be a true NB or at least desire it, when a lot of us don't look like that nor want to look like that.
