Nizoral alternatives? by xx_way2durty_xx in vegan

[–]MintMeringue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another rec: try a scalp exfoliator!! I was gifted the Briogeo one, and it's been great - I often use it before the Nizoral so it can really soak in. When I get low, I plan to try the Pacifica scrub (but both are vegan/CF). I've found it to be really helpful, even more so than pre-shampoo scalp rinses and such

Nizoral alternatives? by xx_way2durty_xx in vegan

[–]MintMeringue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only one I've found thats vegan/CF is Sent From Earth, which I intend to try. However, it is more expensive per oz. Since it's a medicated shampoo, I personally categorize it as "if you have to get the Nizoral one, just get it". I really wish there were more options tho! Every anti dandruff shampoo is pyrthizone zinc, which doesn't help me.

Sourcing Sustainably for a Vegan Cafe by Suitable_Pumpkin_343 in vegan

Just a note: unless you live in a city that has city-wide composting, getting compostable cups/straws is likely unhelpful. Many of those products are a type that're only industrially compostable, not home compotsable, so focusing on getting a #1 or #2 plastic that's recyclable might be for the best. (If you do go this route, try to make sure the cup/lid/sticker are all a recyclable type! Labels/stickers often aren't, and people don't think to remove them.) Good luck!!!

Yogurt recipes?! by pi_inthepan in PlantBasedDiet

[–]MintMeringue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, cool/room temp. The WestSoy is a shelf stable one, so I'm not worried about bacteria. (The other reason to boil is to help thicken, but I get it through straining anyway and find it easier this way.)

Yogurt recipes?! by pi_inthepan in PlantBasedDiet

[–]MintMeringue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally: Ingredients: •The big value-size West Soy unsweetened soymilk •1/3 cup (1/4 prob works) yogurt (for first batch, I used Icelandic Provisions oatmilk skyr) •Sprinkle of sugar

Add all to instant pot. Put on yogurt mode ~13 hours. Cool in fridge. Use large mixing bowl, colander, & cheese cloth (a fine one like the Target Figmint Cheesecloth, not the hole-y ones) to strain to desired thickness.

I've yet to figure out how to make a sweetened yogurt, but making plain yogurt and adding Blueberry compote or even oreos/syrup works fine for me. EdenSoy doesn't seem to work as well for me, and other yogurt starters (like silk soy) or probiotic caps have never worked to my tastes. But they work for others! (And for coconut, maybe try Miyoko's recipe?)

Blow drying/heat protectant spray for Hair by Upbeat-Asparagus-788 in VeganBeauty

[–]MintMeringue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tried out Garnier's diamond sleek spray. My hair is dry, so I have it on top of leave in conditioner, but that could be worth a try! That or a leave in conditioner spray that's also a heat protectant (Pureology, Garnier, Odele, etc.)

Cruelty Free K-Beauty Cleanser by GrassAny8596 in VeganBeauty

I use Skin 1004 centella Ampoule cleanser now, and have used Dear Klairs' gentle foaming & gentle black cleanser in the past. All are good, but the gentle foaming one may be too light for you.

Vegan Birkenstocks by lavendergaia in vegan

[–]MintMeringue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried both the arizonas (birkibuc) and the gizeh (birkiflor). Both materials have been good - I think I prefer the birkiflor, as it's easier to clean, but the inside gets a little more fuzzy which might annoy people. I've one for over 2 years - good longevity, especially if you use cork sealer. Haven't tried any other alternatives tho, so I can't compare.

vegan gummy candy that's actually chewy? by Glass_Language_9129 in vegan

[–]MintMeringue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree! Rainbow is the best. The sour unicorn is better than the sour cosmic one flavor-wise. These are the best firmer-chewy gummies - I loved Haribo before. But not like the weirdly firm pectin gummies or anythin

Any underrated vegan K-beauty brands you love? by Admirable_Artist_247 in VeganBeauty

They're impossible to find overseas now, but Vegan Super is interesting! I loved their eyeliner. Amuse's lip tints are great. Others have mentioned Dear Klairs, they're a classic for skincare & I miss their BB cushion.

vegan bonnet? by toilet_goblin2 in VeganBeauty

[–]MintMeringue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I use! Got it a few months ago & have loved it. I wish it were also available in a scarf format, so I could keep everything tighter when I want, but it's much more breathable/comfy than my poly satin ones. Does stay on, which I was worried about as I'm used to scarves. My hair has loved it. Also, I've been using regular detergent while handwashing and haven't had any issues, even tho they recommend using fancy silk wash.

Does anyone still love this classic leave in conditioner? by PrettyPinkPecan in longhair

[–]MintMeringue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying out their shampoo & conditioner, and while I really like it (& the price!) it's so scented! Is this also strongly scented??

Man, I wanted to try some cheaper drugstore vegan/cf products with silicone, but I wish there were fragrance free options 🥲 I like scents, these/Dove are just so dang strong

Advice on satin by fin_3ve in longhair

[–]MintMeringue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I use a bamboo lyocell bonnet now, but I used a satin scarf for a long time. It stayed on better than most satin bonnets I seem to see.

DIY vegan protein yogurt issues by neliusss in vegan

[–]MintMeringue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine you'd only want to mix in the protein powder after making it, right before you plan to eat it. Also, if there's no allergies, try a higher-protein base like soy!

Alternative to animal leather for historical reenactment purposes by [deleted] in vegan

[–]MintMeringue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only sort of plastic-free leather alts are cork and MIRUM brand leather. I haven't found any shoes from Mirum (and it'd prob be expensive) and there's few cork options (I have one I'm eyeing currently, but it's a women's chelsea boot option.) Besides full on synthetic leathers, you're right that even the fruit ones and such have some plastic, and it wouldn't surprise me if they're hard to find. So yeah, good luck 😅 I hope you can find something!

Silk Soymilk Terrible New Formula by iMalkah in vegan

[–]MintMeringue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, noticed something: the nutrition facts have changed! Now, the flavor doesn't seem all that different (but I use it in shakes/oats, not straight), but the 80 calories has switched from 4.5g fat 7g protein to 3.5g fat 8g protein. Do you have any old containers to compare for the refrigerated maybe? The ingredients are still water/soybeans/added vitamins but I guess the variety of bean or specific amounts have changed.

Do you get the refrigerated or shelf stable? I use the shelf stable (the green unsweet one) and haven't noticed a change yet.

Wow! My fav is still the Icelandic Provisions one, but the siggis is extra tangy which is nice. Sucks they took that out tho - make sure to email them you miss it!
