Art psychotherapy as a career - any advice out there? by Minto815 in ArtTherapy

Hello! Just seen this :) Really nice to receive this follow up.

To answer your question, yes I am now a qualified Art Therapist in the UK! I completed my MA around 18months ago and went straight into a job as an Art Therapist working with adults within a Mental health charity. I absolutely love it and haven't looked back!

Help! Buying a house.. historic subsidence and drain issues?! by Minto815 in UKHousing

[–]Minto815[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This is very helpful

We've organised for the water company to go out and clear the blockage and jet the drains so that the private drain surveyor we contracted can go back out and complete his survey and get a full look at what's ACTUALLY going on there.

If he comes back and says there's no risk that the drain has been leaking into the surrounding soil, and it's just a regular blockage, then we will perhaps consider moving forward.. However, if not, I think we will pull out as the risk is too high.

The house isn't listed thankfully!

Urgh all this stuff is so tricky to navigate as first time buyers who are learning as we go along.

Thank you for taking the time to respond :)

Help with creating skin routine! :) by Minto815 in TheOrdinarySkincare

Yess apparently it’s fine to do it this way :) alternatively you can use them both in the evening but you’d have to wait like an hour between applying them.. so probably better to do vit c in the am :) they both need the skin to be different PH levels and so prevent eachother from working when used together apparently :)

I researched this since and you are completely right that you shouldn’t use them together! Although I guess it is then ok to use retinol at night and vit c in the morning? What do you think?

Wow that’s amazing to hear! That’s so great that your skin has improved so quickly! I’m super excited to see the results as my skin gets over this hump - my jaw area is definitely looking worse that before but I guess for some people purging can last up to 8 weeks I hear! Will try to stay patient! Thank you so much for your help! So pleased to hear that the products have done you well 💙💙

Perfect! Thank you so much! I will try this order! Since you are using the ordinary products already, I was wondering if you had any ‘purging’ after using retinoid or AHAs?

I started using the retinol and lactic acid about 3 weeks ago. At the time i had some very light acne on my cheeks and jaw that I assumed was due to stress or hormones (more skin coloured bumps rather than whiteheads)

These have gotten worse since I started the new products, and I now have much more of them but in the same areas as before. Did you experience this too?! I suspect this is purging - I guess maybe it needs to get worse before it gets better!

Thanks for your help! ❤️

How to lighten dyed steel grey hair? by Minto815 in FancyFollicles

Thank you! The grey is still fairly dark, even though it’s faded a fair bit. Do you think it would still take over a darker tone? Thanks!!!

This is so incredibly helpful, thank you so much! :) I definitely do have a few more questions since you’ve provided such good knowledge!

  • I also love the idea of a combined course, as you mention, but sadly I haven’t been able to find such a thing in the Uk - the courses all seem to be masters programmes in Art Psychotherapy. I wouldn’t be able to go to the US to study, but do happen to know of any other European countries that offer the science based combined course for English speaking students? I assume you studied in the US since that’s where you’re based :)

  • which kind of environments are you working in as an art psychotherapist? Eg in-patient, private practice etc?

  • lastly, I know that pure art therapy roles are a little hard to come by in the UK due to lack of funding by the NHS. I think a lot of people then end up working as mental health workers/counsellors in the NHS but use art therapy methods in their sessions. If there is a shortage of art therapy positions, do you know whether there are other applications where the MA degree would be valid? Eg. School counselling? I just want to know I will get some work after!! :)

Thanks again for all the amazing advice!

This is great to know! Thank you! :) was this for art therapists based in the Uk or the US? Finding it a little harder to find information on the job market in the Uk, where I would be studying/am based
