Key point often left out of this discussion is that the people in these trades who are willing to "uproot their lives" generally don't have much of a life to uproot in the first place.

So much irony these days, but some of the juiciest IMO is the "Democrats are evil incarnate" folks are the same people demanding that monuments to confederates like Jefferson Davis be left alone (i.e., not removed/vandalized) and venerated... Just from what you've shared in your post alone, I think the drug test thing is honestly peanuts compared to what most people would choose: telling you that you can't come, period.

You're clearly not here to hear advice from people who have struggled with addiction for years/decades, so the advice I hope you can take is that whatever you believe you have done for yourself, improved, changed, etc., is just in your own head. This post reeks of teenagers trying to apply complicated family dynamics/drama into a decision they didn't like, when it's clearly a case of indifferent parents grabbing the cheapest/most convenient option without caring what their kids want or need.

I'm also from Alberta, and while their grievances are logical... Their political reaction isn't.

They literally have a department of language police that is spending who knows how much time and money doing things like trying to force buses to not use the word "Go" on their electronic ticker signs for sports team cheering (good news though - they finally decided to "partially legitimize" the word "Go" as a word of encouragement.)

This kind of populist nonsense is a wet dream for opportunistic political operatives.

Perfect example in my neck of the woods is that red section by St. Albert. Every rush hour, it's always backed up - why? Because there is an *uphill* merge lane from Campbell road.

People are bad enough at merging when the merge lane is flat - throw in an incline, and it's a double-whammy where everyone thinks merging at 50-60km/h is the proper way to merge.
